Just a Heads Up
Going to be doing some tweaking and slight expanding of this forum section in the near future. Nothing major, largely just shifting things around.
Anyone have any feedback, suggestions or comments?

Yeah. I think everyone needs to stay on top of the current RA metagame. Then, no more "wtf?1/1/1/1" when you fight an IW, wammo tank, misguided R/E, and MM in the same team anymore.

Well, you get the idea. Basically there are too many match-ups where one side can completely shut down the other for it to be even remotely serious.

1v1 for the adhd kiddies eh? great! nothing like soloing a multiplayer game, after all, since teamwork is far too *boring*, and, yeah...
can't believe that anet is pandering to that portion of the playerbase ;/

Yeah there's no point in such arena but that's what people want. The only thing I don't like about it is how many people will be crying about skills being out of balance because they can't beat them in a 1v1 fight with their crappy builds.

More like it's going to provide an e-peen measuring tape for retards who can't comprehend what teamwork is in team game types. I can already see the idiots bringing back my favorite line from the UT CTF days: "OMG takes 4 of you to kill me! You suck, 1v1 me noob and I'll own you!"
I could care less about the portion of the player base is panders to though, the simple fact is that NOTHING is balanced around 1v1, which makes it a crappy idea for a format.

There used to be interesting 1v1 in the game, back when people played flagger duels in GvG matches (before ether prod came into play for heal party spam). The reason it was interesting was because of all the confines. Multiple objectives (kill opposing flagger, stall for boost, lap them with extra speed, whatever), different requirements that you can devote more or less resources to (speed buffs, condi/hex removal, snares, interrupts, damage). You can duel, but did you just cap or did the enemy? (Time limit changing constantly) On top of that you have the interesting maps from GvG, with alternate routes, environment effects, LoS obstructions, etc.
That's what I loved when I first got into GvG. I had a blast creating & tweaking different runner builds, trying to create an edge against the different kind of opponents you'd meet in the flagger meta. I'm glad obs mode wasn't around at that point, as a lot of the fun was that everyone was trying to scope out everyone they faced and trying to update their own build & tactics to beat everything.
Now clearly a real 1v1 won't be quite as interesting, without the constant fear of being ganked by additional enemies & having to communicate what is going on, but don't discount a 1v1 format so quickly. Clearly Anet would know that a 1v1 slugfest deathmatch would be retarded.

Gus is right - even now, 1v1 or other small-scale battles are commonplace in GvG. Anyone who plays a skirmish template quickly learns the various tricks and tactics required to play against other major skirmish templates, and being successful in skirmish play requires a massive amount of player skill and advanced thought. Something as simple as a dodged arrow can make or break the game.
1v1 itself isn't unfun in this game, the problem is that once you allow people to build only to fight specific characters, the gametype becomes stupid. I've had some great solo battles against other warriors in GvG that felt tactical and interesting. However, if I'd known I was going in to face other warriors I would have brought Gladiator's Defense and Riposte and a bunch of other crap that would have made the match boring and entirely about build. The small-scale battles and tricks used in skirmish play between builds that often aren't built specifically for skirmish play is what makes splitting in GvG so tactically interesting.
Hero Battles weren't a bad concept for 1v1 play in Guild Wars, but the execution failed pretty badly. If you want to really micro your hero's use of skills you end up having to fight the interface every step of the way, since there's no way to hotkey specific hero skills. This means heroes will be relying on their retarded AI to win games a lot of the time, which forces the gametype into Build Wars and PvE-style AI exploitation.

Well, I think anyone can really comment on 1v1 yet because nobody exactly knows what it is going to be.
Hero Battles still have time to grow, though.

How about a forum called skill balances and a sub-forum called Shardfenix's imba skill list? It could contain long rants on how order of apostasy, searing flames, etc. are completely ruining the game and have plently of factual inaccuracies such as burning having 9 pips of degen and a pip of degen causing 3 health lost per second.

I actually think that the Skill <fill in some word I forgot> forum should be used for that. But a PvP one would be sexy.

A section for skill discussion is already included in the new format.
Also: Gaile meant HvH when she was talking about 1v1, Anet understands that true 1v1 will never work.
