Organised alliance battles
I know a lot of people have thought about having an organise 12 man team in an alliance battle vs another organised 12 man team. The objectives and size of map make it so different to HA and GvG it would be worth doing for a limited time.
I know making a 12 man team would ba pain all the time and people like the randomness that is always in alliance battles. I dont want to take that away, the way it works at the minute is pretty good.
But what about a weekend every 6 months that you can make the full 12 man team and have it organised. Just 2 days in a six month period would provide enough interest for people to make that effort to make a team and leave what your normally doing for this. Once the weekend is over the Abs can revert back to normal state.

AB's are a nice get-away from demanding PvP, and good for wasting some time. Imagine how fun it could be though with 12v12, people taking it seriously. Screaming tactics on vent.
And after the events are done, you can only assume that more people will play when it reverts back to normal.

Sounds really fun, and a great way to go back to Factions.

I'd love to see it even more frequently. I liked AB for a fun silly time in PvP and it would be good to see it propped up now and again to keep people going.

I would like to see it made permanent. I've always had issues with how alliance battles work, and the low level of player quality found there. If you can make it organized, on the other hand, it can be like Team Arena.
Perhaps people would take the title more seriously there too. Only issue is this: that would require Anet to care about their previous chapters, something they apparently have no interest in based on other evidence.

Would certainly be interesting to see. I'm not sure it would work out because of certain scaling issues (i.e. 12-man spike teams, or necro teams with a jagged bones/TOD spammer), but it certainly has potential.

great idea. i agree with bryant how it would give me a chance to go back to factions. Havn't been there since NF came out, kinda got me thinking that factions was a waste of money :O

Sigh. If only this weren't so. I hate the mass exodus from the old worlds when new chapters come out.

The thing with alliance battles is that you cannot run any builds like that, simply because you have to split your party and cap stands. 12 man vamp gaze spikes would be fun, but not effective.
ABs are the only type of "PvP" (lol) that don't consist of babysitting a ghostly, altar, flag stand or guild lord, but also require some level of tactics outside of who to shutdown and attack.
Yet they are infested with some of the worst players ever.
Organized ABs is something worth experimenting with imo.

It is sad that this will never come to pass. ABs are the only GW game type that relies (at least in theory because practice is something different) mostly on your overall strategy instead of your build. Other than the festival games it is the only place where you can take any prefession and any build that is not comepletely random and still be able to function.
Unfortunately, the devs see fit to make this a random grouping only affair, which has caused this type of play to become the cesspool of GW PvP perhaps even worse than the random arenas. Why they cannot offer a random grouping version and a team version is beyond me. Sure it could be hard to get 12 players, but give the optoin to do so. Forced random grouping only caters to scrubs and pushed organized players away.
ABs have so much potential as a serious type of play, it pains me to see that they are left to rot while things like the Hero Battle title track are put in.

I dont see that as being a problem if a 12 man team did take in a 12 man spike build they could be at 1 shrine at any time and it would do very little to the speed at that shrine is being taken which is pretty fast with 4 people anyway. While they are doing that they leave the other 8 shrines free to be capped by the oppossition.
Alliance battles are very spread out and if the teams were smart i doubt there would be much mobbing since teams could talk to each other on vent and know what is going on all over the map far better than the way it happens now.

Because alliance battles affect the battle lines, I think anet has intentionally maintained randomness, to prevent all the "good" players from getting organized on one side and controlling the battle lines. Not that it really matters to anyone else.

That is the biggest joke I have heard all day. "Good" players don't care about rolling scrubs with 5 defensive skills on their bars that simply C+SPACE everything. They want a sersious game between two teams of equal skill. In cased you missed it, I'm going to say it again... EQUAL SKILL. If such a situation were to come to pass as you say, players would naturally migrate to the other side so that they could actually have an interesting, challenging game. Furthermore, I don't think anyone that is asking for organized ABs really gives a damn about those battle lines. All we want is the option to make an organized team, there doesn't have to be any aditional reward, no faction of any kind, a good game is all the reward we want.

I did say that, didn't I? Anet will to stick to their original vision regardless of what the players want or how poorly it has ultimately turned out. Kinda like region favor.
I mean it would be perfectly sensible if there were a seperate "organized 12v12" alliance battle with no faction rewards or battle line shifting, it would appeal to the players you indicate... but would Anet ever do that, even if they did care about an old product? I doubt it.

However, they would probably have to keep some sort of split into three 4-man groups. Make it so that the 8 other people are allies but stuff like heal party and aegis only affect your 4-man group.
However, I've said this before, it would have a tactical depth rivaling or surpassing that of GvG. Kills would probably be scarce and it would probably just be 24 players with /A or A/ running around with shadow of haste, but it would take an unprecedented level or tactical awareness to pull off.

I think It could be a pretty cool thing, but to organise it you would need a largeish guild (i know its only 12 but you know how with guilds you can have 60 people and you still can't form a GvG/HA(when it was 8v8) team). Me and my friends actually run teamspeak in AB, although its just three of us, which can kind of annoy whatever monk we pick up as we know exactly where we are going, and he kind of has to try to keep up.

Yeah thats true some skills would be over powered if it was a full 12man team as such. Im sure it wouldnt be to much trouble to have the team split into 3 teams but in the same battle so it runs exactly as it does now except having 12 people on vent/ts and seeing how it goes.

Having a weekend advertised could allow people to get teams together in advance and people would make the effort for that limited time the games are organised. If this was to run all the time it would lose appeal since most serious pvpers would be in other pvp types after the novelty wore off.
But still I would love the weekend

I played AB alot when first it came out (earned about 700k factions). Then I stop playing it due leechers, griefers and noobs ruining the game.

Oooooh, organised AB games would be absolutely sexy. They should change the objectives to prevent camping imo, like morale boost per possessed shrine or something. People would be encouraged to cap that way. I would probably create some sort of holding team with a trapper and rit to keep the res shrine and 2 capping teams with a nuker+fal back para or something to run around and cap. I think assembling a team will become somewhat difficult, 12 ppl is qite a lot, but hell, they can do it in Urgoz' Warren too. I love AB because its a very interesting format if you try to play it seriously (which some ppl indeed do), organised teams would rule out blatant noobishness and lack of challenge (A little tired of rolling 8 ppl with a 4 ppl team, yes).
