speaking of the whole elitism subject, I dont think the fact that people are elitist in gvg team member picking is whats affecting newer players. Its the fact that there is nothing open to discovery. Like a brand new fresh team cant just sit and make their own successful build that relies around their way of playing. Its all about whats GOOD in gvg and anything else is just bad. Its hard to think of it that way but think about Japan when they entered, they got to r50 with mending monks and some of the weirdest chars ive ever seen. Fortunatly for them, the skills were balanced. Now they aren't but hopefully they will be soon. I guess we can only hope to find the old school times where build inventing was actually fun and that a unique build was just as good as a massively played ones. Now you either run meta or something against it or prepare to loose. Thats why guild are really looking for just talented players, cuz its really just who can run the same build better than the others.

Default Solution to elitism in GvG guilds

Yes, It's hard to find a good guild, but if you have connections there's always a way to find a good (gvg or not) guild.

How to get connections at rank 0 (zero)?
Well, it's going to be hard but.. Try to make your own team at Heroes' Ascent and run some build that isn't THAT hard to play and, ofcourse, do your best.

After you've been playing with some random guys that have sticked to the party for a while and you can get along with, add them to your friendlist.
This is how your own little network starts to grow. You add someone on your friendlist and usually, he or she also has friends/contacts on his friendlist and if his friends need 2 people, they can invite your friend and you.

After you've been into pvp and have been playing for like a month or a few weeks, you can start gvging. But, be sure to stick to 1 or 2 roles and not just run every single profession there is.

I know good players, especially from [aT] and they ALL use 1 or 2 roles.
Rank of [aT] atm? #20-30. Why? Because they're no elitists and they try people out, plus, they had good connections.

Actually, I saw people recruit r1 champions at Temple of Balthazar.
Quite often too, they might be from the same guild, but I don't know.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope it helped others,

Your best bet is to find a group of likeminded people and just work your way up copying top teams builds (NOT the gimmicks). Trying to force yourself in by making some top connections really isn't the best idea;\

The thing is, guilds would rather take people that they know are good into GvGs rather than inexperienced players who know nothing about GvGing. Sure, there are chances when the ladder is locked, but when that does happen, guilds don't take the GvGs seriously anyways.

It's hard getting to be a GvGer, but once you are one, it's pretty easy to stay one. My first GvG was about 13 months ago, in Ranger spike. I didn't know how to play, but most of the guild didn't know either. We got better and most of the time we were happy to be around 900. In fact (silly us) we were happy at getting to 700.

Throughout the year we've changed builds many times, but together we've stayed together as one guild all the time. Once you get to know the guild more, you get to know who's good and who you should take. Stick with one guild and get to know the members. Play with them in other aspects of PvP as well.

My guild is We Are All Pretty [ugly]. We've been pretty much one single guild for about 14-15 months now. Not exactly the same guild, but the same players. We've been through 2 past guild names that we didn't like. We have about 14-16 GvGers that we take whenever we have enough on. Going from Rank 900 to Rank 200, I think we've done pretty good.

Anyways, just find one new guild that is looking for members, join them, get to know others, and GvG whenever you have time or people. Sooner or later you guys will get better.

Agreed, sometimes you just end up pissing off people.

Trans Tasman Alliance are not by any means a top rated Guild, and although we love winning, we also just love playing (preferably well ). And we definitely could not be classed as a serious PVP Guild, many of our members are happy to only PVE. What I would like to say tho' is that we invest time in training up our members who are newer to GvG and encourage them to try it out.. for some people it can be a scary thing ( I can put my hand up and say I was very reluctant to GvG at first and now it's the best part of GW for me ). We use scrimmages and unrateds to do this. We also have a ranking system... members have to achieve some requirements (not too difficult really) and have someone second them before we'll let them play in rated GvGs.

We do have an 'elite' team who try to play together fairly regularly, but they are not the only team who are allowed to do rated GvGs. Many of the members of the 'elite' team began with us in the newbie team, so this system definitely works for us. I'm sure we wouldn't be the only Guild out there to invest in training it's members and encouraging them to GvG, so you could look around to find one that's prepared to do it.

I dont know what else I can tell you expect my own experiences so here I go:
I've played RA since the first week of gw and only like 10 gvgs total until the last month or so. I had no glad titles. I was only rank 1 in HA. I knew GvGs were fun though so I decided it was time to get back into it. What I did was I started at the bottom. Yes, the bottom, no not the 3,000 guilds I started at the 5,000. The guild was Guild Wars Gangstas [gang] (no not the ha one) and they just took anybody who would gvg. Nothing required nothing expected. Very basic tactics used and any type of character worked as long as you were available to gvg. We gvged about 5 times an hour and it was fun. Eventually (like 5 days) I had mastered the basic techniques of gvg and memorized all the maps. I then got very lucky and joined Shiverpeak Slumber Party [Brrr]. They were about 3,000 so the 2,000 jump was pretty good but the real clincher was that the leader used to be in Flying Liberaces [Ace] and he was set out to teach people to gvg. Here there were set builds Thumpers, Flaggers, etc, and more advanced tactics like splitting and spiking. I learned a great deal here and spent almost 2 weeks until the guild started to fall apart when the leader left for Dei Victorae [dV]. I then caught another very lucky break when I joined Hired Souls [HS], who coincidentally was in an alliance with Xxx Final Thrust Xxx [RIP] who, as already posted, is usually in the top 100 and has gotten up to top 50. They guested with us frequently and we went from rank 1,500 to about 500. We later made a new guild Xx Youre All Alone Xx [RUN] and are now trying to get back to that 500 mark. Right now I'm right where I wanted to be if not better than I thought about a month ago. I got myself into a place where I know that if we work hard enough we can reach the top 300 if not better. I know I got lucky, really lucky, and I wouldn't expect this yet it does prove that as long as you learn from your mistakes and your victories it can happen. On just a side note I dont prefer obs mode for gaining personal experience as I could probably show somebody a million games obs mode and yet they would still be poor in a Gvg. If you watch yourself it can help greatly and if there is nothing else to do it can help a little if nothing else than seeing other builds.

Good advice. Sticking with a bunch of people is definatly the best way to get better - provided they are willing to learn and are reasonably skilled anyway.

ps i think we played you the other day. I forget who won though. We are HoT...

that is definetely a good idea to get good with a bunch of ppl, once u get good though and u want to join a higher level guild. than defeinetly make a name of urself, go on gwp in irc...talk to ppl and hopefully make a name of urself and ppl should recognise who u r and send out invites into their guild.

Finished 8 and 6 in 2 different seasons. Most of the team was 14-16. Oldest was 20, he's gone now though I LOVE YOU ESSENCE.

I got lucky and was just tombing, happened to meet some people who actually knew how to GvG, did well enough in tombs where I got to join the guild. I've been with the same basic group of people for over a year now. We all know each other, and we work well together, there's really no reason to change that.

That's what you've got to overcome sometimes. Think about it. The best guilds all have players that KNOW each other and have known each other for a long time. They have chemistry. You're just a new fish. Not only do you have to prove you're good, you have to prove you're good enough to replace someone they've played with for months. Good luck. Easier imo, to make your own guild, or join a new one. It's not elitism so much as it is... natural.

I see a lot of those guilds spamming in ID1 of tombs or great temple. I've never seen any on TV. That tells me a little something about how good the guilds are that recruit willy nilly.

we're constantly top 50 and we're all under 20.

As for how we are. We've known eachother for a very long time, elitsm of gvg cant really be seen that way. I mean you cant expect to get into a high ranked guild if they are high ranked as they obviously already have the players to get there..
