Soldier's Defense + Disciplined Stance
Soldier's Defense:
Stance 5e 10r
For 1...7 seconds, you have a 75% chance to block attacks while under the effects of a Shout or Chant.
Disciplined Stance:
Stance 5e 15r
For 1...5 seconds, you gain +24 armor and have a 75% chance to "block" attacks. Disciplined Stance ends if you use an adrenal skill.
5 and 4 seconds at the 8 tactics breakpoint, respectively. The recent updates reduced the recharges of both to a third of what they used to be, making them much more readily available. I've singled out these two specifically because they have no obvious drawbacks on a caster bar other than the Tactics investment. Do they finally have potential, perhaps on a Mo/W bar?

We tried Soldier's Defense on our backline last weekend. It certainly looked effective.
I think the biggest issue is the skill slot. On most Mo/W bars, you usually have Balanced Stance and Shield Bash. Which do you drop for Soldier's Defense? 2 stances seems redundant, but not having Balanced Stance against Gale on spikes is not fun.

When was the last time someone tried to Gale you on a spike?
A lot less teams are using this now because of the reduced KD from Gale... It should be possible to live without it.
On a related note though, there's lots of Water Trident going around.

Both, for Watch Yourself and Soldier's Stance. eF uses it so it has to be good.

Mo/A doesn't have any knockdown protection either. It seems like more of a potential alternative to that, running Bash with a block stance to keep melee pressure off and cause adrenospikes to fail.

That would be a TA/RA and possibly AB thing. Essentially you would need to cover it with something like prot spirit, or risk exploding to damage caster based.

Does the VoD shout work for Soldier's Defence?

It's bad even against physical. Do you really want to play "25% chance that I'll get hit by a 200-damage Eviscerate?"
Under ideal circumstances, Frenzied Defense is nothing more than Russian Roulette.

The only thing frenzied defense is good for is stopping assassin chains. Though even then you're playing with fire, 300 damage death blossom anyone?

Guys, nobody ever actually tries to use frenzied defense without hitting prot spirit in the same instant. Thomas is right, the main danger is getting shattered, which is much more common in GvG than 4v4 settings.
