I was thinking about the way new players meet people and make teams in HA and realized something which goes against the normal thinking of 6v6 and 8v8.

Many people think that 6 man teams mean its easier to form parties and get yourself sorted and go in. To a large extent this is true however it also has negative sides which have been ignored in favor of the more common build wars arguments etc.

Back in the old 8v8 teams had to find 8 people since without heroes at this time you really needed 8 actual players. Now this has been pointed out to be a hassle but it was also a gateway for many lower ranked players to make their own friends network. If a r6/9+ team is forming and they need one or 2 more they would on many occasion take players not actually that rank rather than sit in the district for hours waiting on the next r6/9 etc to come on. If these lower ranked players played badly they were dumped but if they played well they would get asked to play again. This avenue was used by many players to get more experience outside what they would normally get.

With the introduction of heroes and 6v6 those teams that often took lower ranked teams did not now need to take those “randoms” because of both smaller party size and heroes. In many guilds including mine ha teams were organized on vent with no interaction with people in the ha district at all giving randoms no chance to get into the team and build up a friends network. I'm sure many other guilds were the same. However this process took a while and will not show any positive results in just a week long test. However if 8v8 was introduced all the time it would encourage more interaction between players which is really whats lacking at the current time. No doubt there will be times when teams are sitting with 6/7 out of 8 moaning about having to find more players but sometimes the players you find a worth the wait and make it easier to make teams other nights in the future.

Default I actually got used to 6v6.

I kind of enjoyed 6v6 a little until NerfNet changed the maps into these special olympics.

Although the 8v8 week should be nice if they don't actually use the maps now in 8v8.

I'll be sadly disappointed that NerfNet truly doesn't listen that WE DO NOT want these maps at all.

This is [to an extent] true. I frequently took advantage of the empty spots in higher ranked teams when it was 8v8, and found it harder to get into any groups when the switch happened.

Then my guild formed a squad of HAers and I've not pugged since.

Really, the best way to expand the HA playerbase would be for _all_ the experienced players to go away for a few weeks so that newbies could learn with one another, instead of going in, getting a red ass beatdown, then leaving.

OK shoot me down or laugh, but quick idea furthering previous posts:

those ranked under 3 (if they want) should be able to hit a "play now" button that skips them into the next available team (that isn't in the final stages), all other players form teams of 7 players and one hench/hero. The hench/hero is then replaced by a >r3 player waiting to join at the start of each new map.

The random element with the 8th man should make things interesting and give newbies a stepping stone to valuable experience. Since it only work for those below rank 3, it cannot be "farmed" indefinately.

can also get inserted into teams that had a player drop?

Maybe even give the 7 man team a chance vote their 8th man out for a new one at the end of each map? based on majority, so you dont get stuck with a healsig frenzy elementalist/warrior called "Rambo L Jenkins The Third"
heh ... um what was my point? I forget, whatever.

Sorry dude, I really apreciate your creativity, but this is the most retarded idea I have ever heard on this forum. Such thing is compleatly unfair, unjust and downright stupid. I want to play with ppl I know and like, not to be forced to take some random noob, to screw up my team. Builds are made for 8 characters, when, for example i would need shockwave warder, it will be randomly replaced by sunspear rank infinity dolyak signet "tank" ? Thats not fun.Thank you very much, but such nazi ideas will never be implemented.

I never really thought about this before. However, it made me think of when i was between r3 and r6 and I used to get (sometimes) random invites from r6 groups. Once they found out that I didnt suck, and that I actually knew what I was doing, the build, etc., they put me on friends list and thats where all my fame came from. This is how most newer players should get their fame, and I think 8v8 will actually bring more newer players around then 6v6.

Haha I can imagine the backlash from the HA community now. There would be parades in id1 calling Anet Nazis
