Well it's flooded with holding spike again. I thought 6v6 was marginally better, but honestly I don't care about any format where you can't split anymore. So if people would rather play in a 321spike 8-man environment than gimmick-pressure 6-man environments, may as well give it to them.
Peace,

Cant you see!
All theses spikes builds are here becasue of the stupid kill count crap.
People get forced to play spike build cause of it.
This is not the way to "test" 8 v 8 , they should remove the new game mechanics and then test 8 v 8.
8 v 8 only gets a bad name like this,
I am sure thats ANets intend so they can say 6 v 6 is better.
FFS get 8v8 back and normall altar holding, thats the way you get all those lost HA players back.
And do proper skill balancing if needed

As if they werent before...
8v8 6v6? I dont care. Personally, i dont mind having an arena for spikers (any kind of spike, even rainbow one), if that will mean there's less of them in GvG.
Still, there needs to be better anti-spike mechanism in the game. Angelic Bond got nerfed..great... let's spike more. *yawn*

Keep 8v8
Remove stupid kill count, get back to holding the altar.
Everyone will play Bspike, Rspike, IWAY at the start of the 8v8, but it will all be over in a week or so if 8v8 stays.
I also hear some people complaining their are only spike teams, well ofcourse people run spike team with the kill count.
Very good skill changes!
And yes, holding builds are coming back, so what it isn't easy to hold an altar with 16 people against you. And if the holding is to easy, just get the timer a bit longer.

(Rt) spikes + kill counts a problem? A.Net please make this, [skill]Xinrae's Weapon[/skill] a viable skill to use. 15 energy, 12 second recharge maybe. or less.

8v8 is SO MUCH BETTER. Just trying builds and setting skills is 10x better than it was with the gimped 6v6 teamsize. 6v6 is utter shit and just playing 8v8 for a night has made that all the more clear.
Yes, the kill count maps have led to a spike-heavy metagame in HA. BLAME KILLCOUNT. In any case, it won't be long before good balanced teams bring the necessary spike shutdown and the spiking will cease to be an issue.
With 8v8 you have the room for the tools to do so and if you've got a good team of players you'll go far. Beating gimmicks is part and parcel of GW anyway. Perhaps there are more gimmicks if the goal is simpler (again, killcount) or if the format is more popular, but that's not really relevant.

It all boils down to this:
In the old 8v8, you had gimmicks. In 6v6, you had gimmicks. In this 8v8, you still have gimmicks. The question is, which are the gimmicks that you hate the least?
Personally, it doesn't matter to me.

I've played a few rounds tonight, the game is still pretty messed up in that you're two teams beating heads against each other - that's not going to be fixed without significantly modifying the maps and the game mode - something A-Net doesn't want to sink time into it sees.
That said, I've had more fun in HA than I have for... months. A lot of people I know came back for this, we're still winning more than losing and it feels better.
Do I think it's better than 6v6 inherently? No, not particularly, both metas are screwed up. Is it better because of people who play it coming back and other pre-existing reasons? Definately.
Spikes all over the place it's true, but that's HA, it's gimmicky because as Ensign said, you can't split. It's gimmicky as 6v6, it's gimmicky as 8v8. It would be gimmicky as 12v12.
Lastly, I'm happy to see IWAY back. I haven't lost to it, it's been easy fame all the way but that's not why I'm happy. It's because it makes for an easy step in to HA. No vent, minimal experience needed. It's the HA equivalent of base level retail work and it keeps HA alive. It keeps people in, it's stops you seeing no opposing party messages, it lets people get in without getting raged at on vent, lets people start to understand how HA works.
Without it or something similar, HA will die because there is no easy start point. It's true, you can get in without it, I did, I've never played IWAY once, but I know a lot of people who play balanced who got their first HA experience with IWAY. I also know that IWAY made up a large segment of the competition, which meant games kept ticking over, which is infinitely better than sitting around in Underworld seeing "No opposing party, restarting timer" five times in a row.

There is so much hostility against IWAY. I have no idea why.
It is a viable build.
A number of proffesions - mesmers, necros, rangers, warriors.
And it is (or was) effective.
People who hate vs IWAY ARE SHEEP! They see everyone saying "OMG IWAY SUX" so they are trying to be cool and coppying them. It's a vicous circle.

Oh and about 8v8 vs 6v6
6v6 International Districts: 2-3
8v8 International Districts: Earlier today I seen 7
And I couldn't get into ID1, just like the old 8v8
|
Wait 3 days and there will be 3 districts again, people will get fed up with that RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing ritspike. Oh and Tiyuri, 50/60% balanced builds? My ass, have a look at HoH at any time and you'll see at least one Ritspike there, if not 3. Haven't seen much balanced in there at all.

I was playing for around 7 hours yesterday and never came across an iway team. So what's with the complaining? The most common build I saw was Derv/Ass + 2/3 Aoe Eles, followed by Rit and Invoke spike. Although we were running blood spike, we only came against 1 other as far as I remember.
And as most people have said the most imba mechanic is the 3v3 killcount. All in all I had actually enjoyed playing

The only problem I had playing HA last night was that we beat Math's iway easily, but Syra wasn't playing. :'(
Judging the number of balanced teams is difficult, since I'm pretty sure pugs don't play the majority of them. I didn't see any forming anyway..Mostly bspike etc, and the FotM SP sinway.

Ya and that balance screwed up my guilds gvg build! Balance ftl! :/
I personally find both 6v6 and 8v8 both fun although with 8v8 there are alot more variations and more chars to choice from. Although there are more spikes and iway once again who cares. There is always that in halls. Just find a way to counter it.
