I played with ugly a lot and never used vent even with a 2 man sin/war spike just need to understand the the game. However if your playing with people who don't know what thier doing and you feel like safer with vent then by all means use it.

You're in a dust trap ^.^
How I love vent =].

I hate pugs for the fact that so many don't talk.

From my experience smart people who know a lot spout less, dumb people who know little talk a lot~
I don't really apreciate some bart simpson talking as I'm about to infuse.

I'm naturally a bit shy and will never talk on vent unless I'm familiar with who I'm talking to or there's something important that needs to be said. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong by doing that, as when I join pugs in HA it's not with a goal of socializing but to win halls. However, other people (like you) may see HA as a joke now and play just to play with other people who share common interests or whatnot. Regardless, my money, my game, and I will still hold the belief that I'm not required in any bit to commit to making someone else's online experience more enjoyable.

I'm sure there's many like me who'd agree they prefer people to only say important things. For pugs anyways...
For friends, yeah sure why not talk about normal stuff but in a pug hell no...

well if its not that...
I just assumed that 9000 K mem usage was 9mg but i guess its not.
Well now its using only around 2500 K and 3200 K mem usage so...
It uses around 2500 to 3200 K mem usage if that gives you an idea how much bandwidth it uses...

vent CAN be incredibly useful. It's usefullness depends entirely on the people using it.
"serious HA groups"... In my (albeit limited) experience there aren't too many of these. Most PUG groups I've been with don't know how to use vent, or just rage and say pointless crap to the point that important things go unnoticed. When Pugging the only thing you will really need vent for is spike groups (ie: need precise timing). Other groups feature a leader (caller) that tries to tell people what to do. Imo these are the only reasons to have vent in HA pick up groups. When you play with friends and guildies a lot it is incredibly advantageous to have vent/ts, as it tends to be more streamlined and you dont need one person to babysit everyone else. On the other hand, Heroes Ascent is typically full of "serious" groups that demand rank n+ and X build and a lot of these groups will also require vent/ts. So, if you want to play in serious HA groups, Vent will be pretty much a requirement.

and what, exactly, is the correlation between RAM usage and bandwidth consumption? Firefox is currently eating 60KBs of memory...but I'm only on a T1 line (1.5Mb/s)...so, how am I surfing the web in any decent amount of time?
unless you're on dialup, or have a really slow computer and/or 64mb of ram...vent shouldn't interfere with GW, At least it never does my home 300kbps dsl.
On the cost of a mic: If you could afford 2/3 chapters of GW, you can afford a mic. If your mom bought you 2/3 chapters of GW, odds are she'll buy you a mic/headset of your choice.
Having a proxy server might affect vent (besides making it harder to set up), but I'm not an expert on networking or Web stuff

I have a solution for Xbox Live players concerning headsets:
The wired controller for the Xbox 360 plugs in via USB port.
This means: it can be plugged into a computer with a free USB port. If you have the proper software installed for it (free, simple download from microsoft) you can use it for games on your computer. BUT: if you plug the headset in, it can be used for TS/Vent.

By the way, I've used photoshop before. It uses quite a lot of ram. Before you say, what is the correlation between that and guildwars. Well. I'm just trying to help!
