True, but at least anet errored on the side of overpowered offense instead of overpowered defense. They should have fixed it a month ago, but I'd prefer to see stagnate builds that kick the crap outa each other than stagnate builds that stalemate every match.

I think that's really what the OP is saying. I don't think anyone is saying that titles are bad in theory. It'd be great if you could give titles to people based entirely on their skill. But there's no way to realistically do that, so we're left with titles that are only an indicator of how much a player is willing to grind/farm which really tells very little about anything.

No this is a rant about how he thinks pvp titles mean something, even though they don't. I know hero-2, glad-1 players who are way better than hero-9s or champion-3s.

Wow Shard did you read my 1st post? I write all the ways you can farm titles to show that they don't mean a whole alot. And people saying skill balance look under the gvg fix.

Skill balance FTW.

O wait Guess who fails at skill balance? Izzy.Best guild name Ive ever heard in GW.

I don't think titles have ruined gw. Many people with titles are good at at least some class.

I think rank is a joke... Ive been in so many situations where a complete noob who has a natural willingness to learn, thus adapting quickly and expressing interest in teamplay, is a much better teamplayer than the r5 arrogant spamming retard who hates everyone and expresses it clearly wherever s/he goes. While I realize not everyone fits this standard I also admit that to "nerf" rank and leave, for example, the gladiator title to express skill level for guild recruitment would simply allow the same circumstance with rank in the glad title. There really is no in-and-out about it. If a guild is stupid enough to recruit that player thats fine and their own problem. I dont know any respected guild that doesnt screen their players anyway so if you have a lower rank and you still have what it takes step up and to hell with anyone else. Being a "vet" or "elite" or "leet" is in your step with your walk and how you carry yourself. It is not expressed in Rank. It is not expressed in title. It is expressed in your actions and worth.

Anyone who says otherwise is blasphemous.

I wear my pvp titles in pve areas and vice versa.

Nothing like having a tyrian defender on flag duty.

I honestly think that titles have gotten a bit out of hand as people don't always recognize that they're somewhat of a joke when tying to determine player skill, and in that sense I see them causing a lot of greif for the players of Guild Wars.
There has been many a time when I start looking into a GvG guild or another, and the first thing they have in their recruitment requirements is rank three Champion or over. Such judgements themselves are based only on what could be a week worth of RoA thumping or perhaps some other metagame build. In this sense I find that at the very least Champion has limited player's ability to enjoy higher class game play. Moving on to rank. Discrimination has always evolved over rank and although I don't really enjoy it it's part of the game now and I think removing it could only cause more problems than it would solve. Commander and Gladiator I have considered a joke since they came out, Commander being /roll as fast as you can, and Gladiator being a mixture of grind and luck, probably not skill.
But moving on back to the subject. My answer at the end of this is yes, PvP titles have been sumwhat problematic to Guild Wars ever since their release, in my opinion.
*Looks at long post*Better take another asprin.

Champion track is probably the less meaningless, but even then there's sooo many that dmo'd, bloodspiked, thumped so much of it. pro.

HA title is the best one, because it comes with an emote. Which tend to look cool. And give it 2-4 months or so, so many people will be getting champion points by playing as low as rank 200.

Well said everyone!! but i think the glad title has alittle more worth than most of you let on. example In R/a it is quite difficult to have good team work based on the nature of this arena, now with that said getting a glad title by strictly playing R/a must account for so sort of exprience, does it not and if this is the case does it not show that as a player you understand and appreciate the team as a whole considering the amount of worthless and down right stupid builds that show up here. I for one think that at least a glad title has some merit as to an individuals abitlity to understand teamwork, teambuild and playing as a member of a team or build, which in the world of Pvp & Gvg is the basis for its very existence.

Humbly,

PFFT! Stop sniffing paint. somw, nuff said.

Alot of these titles would be more relevant if they started on day one and actually showed what I've done since then. Glad's title is a joke, since pre-HA, it was just the 4 of us rampaging in there for months on end. Not like you can max it anyways I guess...

Title's only mean what people think they mean. If it's important to you, then you will "go for the title" as it were. It's an expression of you're experiences within the game and thats about it.

This is how all titles work. All of them take time and a lot of grind to achieve, just that better players achieve those ranks faster than the players who are worse. However, the title system needs to be there or else there is no screen for whether or not a player is good. Most guilds have basic title reqs for joining, but the most important part is the tryout. If you're a r4 champion but completely suck in all the tryouts, top guilds are still not going to accept you.

If youre a rank 4 champion you are probably (winning) on observer mode a lot, and people already know who you are and how well you play.

I was slightly overexaggerating on the r4 champion case, but I've seen many r3 champions that play very poorly and aren't in a top guild (mainly because all they do is farm champ points during the weekends whereas top teams already had a good position and don't need to play then). I know many r2 champions that have participated in the tournaments and have much more high level gvg experience, but their champion title would indicate otherwise.

It's a nice way to solve too many problems...
