Week day Late night Matches in Tournement
I have just finished a tournement match (see time)and I wanted to ask if ...I am the only one who thinks the week day 3am tournement matches are really very unfair?
I don't want to bitch as I know it must be hard to organise a Huge international tournement.
But I am in a Euro guild and everytime we have had to play American guilds it has had to be a between 2 am and 5am.
I want to play in the tournements but after working really hard all day, how I am supposed to play my best at 3 am? against a good American guild who are in their normal evening play times?
It says in the rules that we should beable to find times to play that is good for both guilds, but how can a week day ever be good for either American or Euro guilds?
If we play at a time that is good for Euro it would be when the Americans are at work or School. If we play a time good for Americans it is when us Euros are so tired we can barely keep our eyes open.
I can imagine some people saying well go to sleep earlier and wake for the match. This is what most of us do, but have u ever tired calling strats when u are really tired having only had half your sleep? or monking when u r so tired your head hurts?
My guild has had to play 4 times in the middle of the night, most had to hide this from their parents, who would rightly be horrified if they knew there kids were play computer games in the middle of the night, when they have lessons the next day.
I am sorry but I am very frustrated about this, it makes the tournement seem kinda pointless, if we can't play when we are awake.
I am the only person on GW who works really physically hard all day, but wants to play in a tournement? but the nights are making me so tired, I can't play well?

I agree that instead of making the fallback time impossible for Euros and 100% ideal for Americans, they should've made it difficult for both. For example, moving the fallback time two hours earlier means that Euros have to stay up a little bit late, and Americans have to hurry home from work/school. Both are elements that you can control, whereas you couldn't pick a worse time in the night than 3am to play a tournament match. Most people that stay up late don't stay up that late, and people that get up early aren't up yet.
I'm in an American guild and our first match was against an Aussie guild and they got the ideal fallback time and we would've been forced to play at 3am, but we got them to stay up late so that we could get up early and play at 5am Pacific.
This discussion might be pointless, though, because who knows if they'll ever have another one of these again.

It means the Americans have to leave work 2 hours early or something in PST if it's any earlier. Which is a lot more unreasonable than making people stay up till 4am simply because leaving work and school early is out of your control.
3am is 7pm for some American's, chances are some haven't even got home from work at that time.
Regardless of what the rules says it's pretty RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing obvious there isn't a _good_ time that suits both guilds, except on Friday's and Saturday nights when staying up etc doesn't really matter.
Yes it must suck. But way i see it, it's forcing american's to cut work early. or asking euros to stay up late / get up very early. It's the lesser of 2 evils imo.

Assuming and this is a big assumption that euros don’t have to go to work/school early or anything remember just because it starts at 3:00 GMT (which to a lot of us is 4:00 am) that doesn’t mean that’s when it finishes. This is the same level as assuming that all American players only get home at 7:00pm so we should keep them from needing to skip work. Both are false and not very fair to certain parties.

This debate has been argued on many forums in many threads. American teams complain about how they have to play at 4am EST to accomodate the japanese and korean playing times, and Euros have to play at 2-4am depending on the time zone against Americans. I'm sure in the asian forums they're complaining about how matchups against Europe is highly unfavorable. That's how it works. One group is going to get screwed over because Anet can't have the fallback time during work hours 8am-5pm.
Having said that, this is why I strongly believe this tournament was just quickly thrown together with minimal planning to make people forget the fact that automated tourneys were supposed to be out January-February.

We didnt forget we just got more pissed off and still no news of automated tournaments even though it should be just a few weeks away (this tournament ends on this weekend), but what we do know in a couple of weeks Razah will be easier to get .

I agree, as a non GvG person the whole thing appears to be very ill thought out.
1. Leaving it up to guilds to work it out. This leave the fallback system very open to abuse. Especially with times being set in the middle or work days or esp late at night when people are sleep deprived and therefore at a siginificant disadvantage from the get go(at least people who take an hour or 2 off work are awake and functioning for example). Looking at the results page, the winners have often been more determined by when they can play than how good they were. That can't be right.
2. Multi Regional pairings. Saying it's bad for everyone does'nt make it a valid modus operandi
3. Rule confusion. I believe the rules being clarified midway caused additional confusion. Leading to a few DQ's.
No wonder AN have said this is the last time a tournament will be run this way. People think that the AT's will be different, but if they rely on the same system as this one(multi regional pairings) then the results will always be decided by survival of the most available not the fittest.

At least in the AT's they're planning to have 2-3 tourneys a day, meaning that people can play at their nighttime hours, and not something like 3am (unless they want to join America's tourney as a European or something)

I think they should have left all CT games to the weekend so that 99% of the community could play the matches.
Considering the massive scope of this task and being run by only one guy at Anet ( he deserves a bloody medal having to put up with us lot ), the CT went pretty well though.
I am extremely curious about how the ATs are going to be structured however, are they going to be a mini tourney that is completed in an evening or do they stretch over a week? I would like to think that guilds that enter a AT will meet guilds that play the same time as they do otherwise they are going to have the same problems regarding fallback times as they did with the Celestial Tournement.

IMO it should have been organised such that you only play same region games during the week and cross-region games on weekends whenever possible.
Due to mismatches with amount of teams from various regions, any cross-region game should include at least a friday or saturday night.
There's no chance of playing your best in the middle of the night on a weekday. Part of the reason my last guild broke up was that every CT game was either 1am or 5am for us and folks just can't keep that up with work, spouses and children.

Wasn't Anet's original claim that fallback times were supposed to be fair for both guilds? Another example - SK played Supernova Jpn this morning at 5 am (8pm in japan). Yeah... that's fair. Oh, but waking up that early to fight the wM build on jade made it all worthwhile -_-
