Default kind of a noob HA question

Ok here goes.. I'm a player who has quite a bit of experience and characters running around in the PvE world, and has taken a few of those players through to RA,TA etc. I've worked a lot on unlocking as many skills as I can, especially on my Necro, to make it easier to find groups in TA. My question is, skill unlock wise, is it easier for an RP character or a PvP character to gain the skills and experience to find a good group in HA? Thanks in advance

If your are bringing your RP character to PvP, make sure you are geared for PvP (superior vigors, runes, perfect weapons, & skills unlock for the required build), or else your PvE character will be at a disadvantage.

As for me, I always prefer PvP characters over PvE, but again, it varies from person to person. (if you are rich enough to afford weapons and have skills unlock for the specified build-- go PvE)

To answer your question, "Is it easier for an RP character or a PvP character to gain the skills and experience to find a good group in HA? "---it does not matter if it is a PvE or PvP character. The more you play, the more experience and knowledge you will gain, which will allow you to get into better HA group.

If you have a RP character with lots of money, its easier to aquire more skills quicker as you can buy them with gold as opposed to buying skills with Balths faction.

If I was you, I would buy all the skills for your RP profession with gold and save the balths faction for skills you may need playing different roles in other professions.

PVP works out cheaper. If you lack faction, just buy flame of balth... Also, pick one profession you want to dedicate yourself to for a bit. Then you won't need much faction to start with and by the time you do need any, you'll have got it.

My bet would be on pvp now for you. I think you could farm up faction quicker than you could farm skill pts + liquidating drops + zoning to particular skill trainer.

But w/ pve, you can be unlocking a lot of different things at once, w/ drops unlocking all kinds of things and getting skill pts, along with quest rewards giving skills. However, I think that's only better for new players w/ almost nothing unlocked, since almost everything you find would be unlocking new content.

Considering you've already played a while, I think you're much better off playing pvp now, since it's easier to fill in gaps w/ faction than it is via pve (since a lot of the things in pve now wouldn't unlock new things).

Random is pretty efficient and doesn't require you to be accepted into a team.

PvE characters are better for PvP than PvP only characters because PvE characters have more access to different kinds of weapons. Take the assassin for example. The skill "Shield Up" basically gives everyone 50 armor against peircing damage which pvp daggers do. But if you have a PvE assassin, then u have access to daggers that do slashing damage which ignores the +50 armor giving by "Shield UP". They also look better with ascended armors .

But what about lightning damage on PVP daggers? Assassin is one profession too...

For monk for example, getting all the weapons is much easier. -5 +5, smiting 40/40, healing 40/40, prot 40/40 is so much easier than buying loads of PVE things.

PvP characters are infinitely better with the new PvP template and equipment system than PvE characters due to the flexibility that they allow. There is no comparison.

PvE characters are fun to bring to PvP arenas because they look nice but looks don't win games. The minor advantage that exists with some PvE equipment typically costs well outside the resources of the average player and will not make any difference as a newer player.

I haven't logged on guru in a while and just now was able to read all of your replies. Thanks all who applied you helped me out. I have about 3 PvP characters atm that I use for GvG, and with the Balth I've got from that have unlocked many a skill that would otherwise take ages to run a PvE character through 3/4 of an RP side to get. And with my new found GvG experience I've been able to open up a large number of builds I hadn't thought of using before in PvE, so win win all around for me

You can put PvE weapons on a PvP char... transfer through Xunlai agent...

EDIT: Yes I agree, PvP have boring armors and doesn't allow dye mixes (so what if I want to play a 2.5m tall male warrior in pink plate mail)

Cap elites and use faction to unlock normal skills. Don't unlock runes or upgrades unless you need them "right now" - maybe you'll find them in PvE and save some faction which can be used for skills. That's the fastest way to UAX.

Also, make sure to keep at least 5k faction ready at all times in case you don't have the skills people want you to run.

And FU Glimmering Mark!

BTW shields up works only for piercing damage coming from projectiles.

"Shields Up!": now only effects party members, armor bonus applies versus all projectiles.

It would apply for disrupting daggers.

This is just flat out false. There is a comparison. For the average player, it is true that a PVE character is extremely difficult to get to PVP ready level, however if you play only one class and never swap to a new class, then it's not that hard to spec a PVE character up. I reguarly use a PVE monk, and yes it does have over a bag full of shields, armour configurations, weapons etc. There is nothing a PVP character has, that I would want, that isn't on my PVE monk.

That's not to say, for the average player, you should use a PVE character. But you speak in absolutes which don't apply.

I would say not wasting your life for a marginal edge is near to infinitely better. Also, the number of players that pride themselves on classes they have PVE chars for but suck horribly at the profession is kind of astounding.

The problem is in HA/GvG it's not what YOU would want on your Monk, it's the build the team leader wants.

There's nothing stopping you using equipment you have found during PvE on your PvP chars. The PvP char. is just more flexible/practical for quick changes to suit the teams build requirements.

I am told there are some rare PvE drops eg. gold shields that have max armor with only 8 attribute requirement vs 9 in PvP shields. Not that I have ever seen one myself to confirm it. But if I found one one it would be used on a PvP char for sure.

I think you can get req 7 max armor shields in PvE, but they are really rare. If I found one, it'd be on my monk asap. ;D

No problem using a pve char for pvp, jsut costs gold to unlock skills and get weapons and armor ready instead of balth faction

Grinding PvP arenas is the way to go..faction gain has increased and whilst you gain faction for skills you gain PvP experience
