I'm just annoyed when you have a rit casting spirits and a monk on the same team, the other team usually goes after the rit: I'm the rit
*The other team if bombing me with attacks while I make spirits*
Me: Wtf, we have a monk! Why are you attacking me!?
*Keeps attacking me*

Only the most skilled and versatile players will choose to bring a ritualist spirit spammer to random arenas.

If I may add to Blame the Monks brilliant advice, if you have a ranger or a PD mesmer in the team, make sure you tell him to stay on the monk and never interrupt the Rit because it's simply not good sportmanship
ps: what's up with cow?

Like with any other profession there are people playing them with great skill, and there are people playing them, well not very good. Essentially all professions do the same, u load 8 skills and press buttons. However the difference comes when people need to interact with their environment, friends and foes. Your generalization is IMO still a bit shortsighted. Skill of players shows when they meet their (near) perfect counters.
This means people that know how to move, retreat, what spits to kill, what rituals to interupt (if u can all ^^), or what spits to leave alive when at the fringe of killing someone. Lure a hotheaded guy of the opposing team, feign a retreat due weakness and tempt them to overextend.
U could also say a healing monk is not skilled and not very versatile, the only thing he does is healing. Same for all other professions.

You can't really tell if something is sarcasm if you just look at text (unless they have the smexy [sarcasm] tags ). Sarcasm is expressed via vocal chords.

Yes you can if you have a brain, and you've played this game :\ It should be obvious what is clearly not true. Let me put it in laymans for you vocal learners. Ronin said "skilled and versatile" players run rits, now obviously spirit spam is neither which would mean he is not serious or a noob. In light of the sarcasm used in the first post, we assume said person to be sarcastic since a noob would call rits 'teh bestest build ever!11!', not skilled and versatile as he stated.

"on the internet we are all equal to autists"
Ofcourse i captured the sarcasm in this message:

This would imply that actually only unskilled and not very versatile players do bring spiritspammers. Now let me clear this to you why I argue against this sarcasm that is inappropriate, and simply not true. It is a generalisation over the top, pointing out a certain type of profeesion as being an amateurs profession. I could also say the following:
"Only the most skillfull and versatile players would play a boa sin/shockaxe/[fill in any popular build]"
It's players who are either skillfull or not, playing a certain build doesn't make you suddenly become skillful, nor unskilled.
I feel the sime "disgust" of spirit spammers as most do, they make you quite immobile and most don't use spirit draw, or just start camping directly. But also opposing players are to blame for the "succes" of spiritspammers, as they often don't know how to deal with it (and there is more then one way depending on the players in your team). If spiritspam wasn't succesfull, this topic would not exist.

Mantra of recovery, GolE, cry of frustration, web of disruption, and drain/shatter delusions. Three interupts on a 7.5 second recharge in that case. Go and have fun. u can interupt all day on, especially if u take powerdrain as well to fuel your energy while interupting the occasional spell.

The monk doesn't have to sit in place for 3-5 seconds and let warriors wail on him in order to do something useful. You do. A+ to your enemies for having brains.

The sarcasm in this thread is cracking me up. I've actually "lol'd" a few times!
I don't see spirit spam as quite as much of a problem as it used to be. Most classes have something to offer to disrupt a ritualist's patterns. Rangers are the absolute perfect anti-ritualists since most pack dual interupts. Other ritualists have skills such as Gaze of Fury to even turn enemy spirits into your own. Mesmers recently got a huge buff to two skills involving the destruction of the ethereal. Warrior's have 2-4 swings of their axe. In short, after playing a semi-spammer myself (restoration rit /w channeling), I finally feel that the spamming is actually somewhat balanced (all but Hero arenas, but I haven't been back in there since the update). I know that every time I go up against a team with a ritualist, I usually let out a mild, "crap!" or "dang it!", but they arn't quite as strong as they used to be.
And guys, don't attacking Ritualists while they are attempting to contact the netherworld. I hear it has the same effect as dividing by zero!

Another thing to do is, Frenzy in the spirits so you can kill them faster.

These pvp'ers won't tell you how to beat spirits since they use it themselves to farm fame, champ points, and glad points. But here's how it's done:
Warriors must rush into the middle of spirits and use Dolyak sig + Watch Yourself! as the extra armor boost will make the spirits do no damage at all.
Plague touch blind back onto Shadowsong so it's attacks will miss.
Preservation does no damage so just chase the Rit as he runs in circles around it.
If you're a monk, spam protective spirit on your team to reduce the damage from spirits.
Always stay downhill from spirits so you can keep an eye on them.
If you see a spirit spammer you must assume he's rank 9+ so leave killing him for last. The order of who to attack should be Shadow Form 'Sins first, Glad's Defense/Healing Hands Warrior next, then Stoneflesh/Armor of Earth Dervishes, Whirling Defense Rangers next, etc. with Rit being last.

threads like this crack me up... mainly because people always come in, fail to see sarcasm and try to give advice lol
but seriously i agree with the OP, theres no point rushing in its best to use your 9th skill... The Stare Down! most teams fold if you've perfected it and will result in mass resign's sometimes its so powerful people on your team are scared into resigning, but you wont so you get the win!

Spirit spamming Rit's are spoiling RA meta, the latest trend it they camp at the base with all the spirts up and wait till you come to them. If you draw a melee only team you are pretty much in a no win situation. You try and fight and of course you are fighting 4 players and 4-6 spirits so there is no chance. In maps like Priest Annihilation it's a total joke. You can try and stomp the Rit but the distance is too great and they already have spirits up.

Tactics I use when I'm on my waarrior is killing the spirits and spike the rit. with the adrenaline I built up. Still not ideal, because I could have been wailing on other players while im wailing on spirits, but if the rest of the team keeps the enemy busy enough I can kill the rit. in 1 combo. But I indeed agree that spirit spam sucks and should be shoved in places no light will ever penetrate.
