Trying to pick a good PVP class
I haven't played Guild Wars in like 7 months, but when I heard there was an expansion + sequal on the horizon I thought it was time to come back.
I messed around on a bunch of characters when I did play, my main characters being an assasin, warrior, ranger, necromancer and just getting to the mainland on a Dervish in nightfall.
Well anyway, I'm trying to pick a new class for GW2. I want a spike class that's useful in PVP. Obviously I've done this before on a W/E and kind of Assasin, but with the Dervish and the new skills (which I don't know much about) I'm wondering if game mechanics have changed.
So... Are Dervish's are very needed in PVP? I'm currently thinking I'll go an Elementalist. I'd would LOVE to go a Dervish though, but I just don't know how useful and needed they would be in PVP builds.
So yeah, I'm exhausted. If that made sense, respond please ^_^

What's so great about PvP is that you can delete a character and make another one in a second.

Dervish seem like the new Warrior these days, so yeah if you want, go with them, as you seem to have some front line experience with Warriors, I've seen quite a few good ones that have made Monking harder than me in RA.

Everything can be useful in PvP, depending on the current meta. I'd say warriors and monks are generally the two most needed classes in PvP though.

So Dervish's are being used in good GVG?

They're being used, but I don't think they're effective.

How about Elementalists? Are they still useful?
We never used them in our GVGs.

Every class can work in gvg. Depends on your build. Choose either front line: Warrior/Dervish/sin or midline casters: ele/mes/necro or midline ranged: ranger/para and start to play them.
Your question is rather too simplistic, like you never played gvg before.
So here it goes:
Create a pvp only character that you like of the above 3 architypes, get a build, copy one that works for others and go play ra.

Their job is to kill shit. They do that. Quite well. Therefore, you could say they're effective.

dervs have more uses then pure dmg dealers: flag runner, condition spreader, melee shutdon (ebon dust)
dont only focus on dmg dealing...

The only things that dervishes are really good at is killing shit and doing stuff like orders. Ebon dust aura is mediocre.

The problem is they kinda sux as anything else. For condition spreader, a ranger beats them big time, and for Flag runner they're kinda bad as well. Melee shutdown has a million better options as well.

I suggest doing what you like, rather than listening to what people think is the best.
