Wooo ANet...
So, if someone could explain to me how my guild, rank 7.7k (rating 983 at the time), hit a rank 60 guild, that would be great. You'd be hard-pressed to find a guild with a lower rank that ours (we only have 4 active members and thus hero-way), and yet we still managed to hit the #60 guild... when this happens something is wrong with the latter. Last night we also hit a r600 guild as well, although the rating difference b/w our two guilds wasn't AS massive as that b/w ours and the r60 guild (it was still upwards of 50-100 though).
I'm pretty sure something seriously needs to be done with the pairing system, b/c it's absolutely broken if one of the best guilds in the world hits one of the worst... Also, someone from the r60 guild (who were very nice) told me that refreshing enter battle wait doesn't do anything anymore, which is also lame.
However, i'd like to proudly say that even with 4 heros we still managed 8 kills on em

It's the choice between hour long waits till you face someone closer to your rank, or playing more but against better opponents. I think most people prefer the second option.
Also, the difference between your guild and Forlon Savior is only 182 points. That's not that much, so you'll face guilds like them every once in a while.

I think I read somewhere in IRC that the matchup thing now is that, at the beginning, you can fight guilds with +-50 rating. Every minute, that amount increases by 25. So after 5 minutes, you would get +-175 rating, which, after accounting for other wins and losses, could have possibly been the rating difference between your guild and FS.
Take what I said with a grain of salt, though, as I might not remember correctly or something.

I don't know about you guys, but +/- 150-200 rating difference is absolutely phenominal. even ~50 rating difference is pretty large, and I'd prefer to wait an extra 5 minutes than hit a number 10-50 guild as a r7,000 guild.
ty for the info though

Don't think 5 minutes. Think at least 30.
How many guilds under ~1040 rating actually play gvg you think?

Yeah playing at ~r7000 for a while it was rather annoying with the opponents. 150ish, 400ish..1100ish..meh. Most of our opponents were <1000.

If refreshing doesn't work anymore, that's just a good thing. My guild has to wait 10 minutes for most matches anyway, and it kind of sucks to wait double that just because someone had to change a skill.
I don't really understand why you would rather wait on your GH than play a better opponent? You might lose, probably pretty badly even, but is it that horrible? At least you could learn something.

As rank 2000+ guild, all you learn from fighting against a top 100 guild is that the top 100 guild is a lot better. And not more then that. Just like when some pro-fighter beats on a little child, you tell me what the little child learns there.

This thread reminds me of my guild For some reason we always play at the time when high ranked guilds do. I remember one night, in one hour when we were rank 300, we faced 3 guilds in the top 50. (and beat the r13 )
It is kinda amusing tho, and normally, the matches do teach us alot about our mistakes.

My guild has that same problem. We are currently hovering just outside of the ladder and we constantly get rank 400+ oponents. You really can learn a lot about your build and tactics calling though.

You two were the only two going in at the moment. After about 5 minutes it greatly expands the search criteria otherwise rank 50+ guilds used to have to wait 30+ minutes for games. If you want to always face opponents on your level, try looking for partners to play unrated games with.

Yeah, some unrated battles would be nice, but we want to improve our rank, which is slightly difficult when we hit an r60 team. However, I think it also has a lot to do with the time of day we GvG probably... Perhaps we're trying to play when there aren't a lot of other low ranked guilds out (we hit the r60 ~1:30am EST Thursday night/friday morning..)

You make the assumption that there are a lot of low-ranked guilds that GvG.
Unfortunately, a lot of low-ranked guilds just had moments of "Hey let's try GvG for a while" and then got bored after getting around 30 rating. They'll do about 50-75 GvGs and then stop since the rating gain is so slow, as they lose almost as much as they win.
As you get closer to the middle of the ladder (starting from the low end) you'll find more and more guilds with wins and losses in the 100's. These guilds are pretty active, but remember, this is the record since the last and final reset, which I think was January first.
The upper half of the ladder is much more active than the lower half, so your chances are better of facing a 500 or better than someone around your rank.

Playing good teams helps you improve far faster than playing other terrible teams. Learn from how they beat you.

Use the observer mode to check your last match against a good team. See what you did wrong, and what they did right. See how you can improve. Watching yourself make mistakes is a good way of learning to get better. Watching other games on observer will help you learn strats, etc., but watching yourself play gives it more of a personal feel, and you'll learn faster.
Plus, as others have said, there aren't many low rating/rank teams playing out there, so pairings would be difficult. I've once had to wait 15+ minutes for a match while guesting, only to find that the guild we're playing against is 50-100 rating higher than us. GG?
