Q F T. No amount of objective retooling can solve the fact that 8v8 under NF skills is completely lame and gimmicky, short of making you split to hold two altars at once or something. I know some of you HA types have no idea what goes on in GvG but you ought to take a look at what kind of builds are run on jade/burning isle.

Well ok, u got what you all asked for; An arena with 8v8 that is now even more broken than it was 6v6. When you asked around WHY ppl wanted 8v8 to come back, the reply was: more versatility & a place for utility/support characters and some more.
This weekend i did a crapload of HA and faced a lot of teams, but i only saw maybe 3 teams that truly ran a balanced build. All the other teams were running...cmon guess, lamest thing first.
No?
These are the topmost builds and hands down result of your whining and bitching for months on end:
Icy veins spike
Searing flames
IWAY (yes yes, a modded version but still IWAY)
Paraway
Rangerspike
Invoke lightning spike
Vimway (only a couple teams but its there)
Notice the "spike" after every name? I rest my case.
I kinda agree on the kill count part tho, but it shouldnt be removed imo.
I'd say keep killcount, but make Courtyard holding again.
This way u take the uber defensive builds as well as uber offensive ones out of the meta, or make serious changes to them at least.
And to answer a question, that i KNOW is gonna get asked: Yes, i ran a lame build just as the rest of 99% of the HA community. I never asked for 8v8 in the first place so i might as well take advantage/abuse of it.
*waiting for the flaming to start*
|
Besides ViMWAY and IWAY (which these "modded" versions consist of, anyways), all the builds you mentioned focus on something from Nightfall.
Don't forget spiritway, with WoR, and three thumpers. Or the 5x A/W 3x Mo/* builds that revolve around the extremely broken Shadow Prison.
These is a joke. Nightfall has not ruined HA, I'll agree, but it has further damaged the fact that HA will never be the same. Even when Factions came out, HA was never how it used to be.
We're now seeing how IMBA these skills are now that 8v8 has come back with kill count.

The balance over Nightfall isn't what killed it. It's the long run inaction from Arena Net that really hurts. So many people have left the game post Nightfall release.... I'm not sure if it'll ever get back to previous levels.

Depends if those people are contactable by people that still play. I would wager that some aren't, but that the majority are. I've already been gearing up a few people I know to come back and gotten contacts even though they quit months ago... some I'm pretty sure will never come back. Either way, average skill, etc. will increase dramatically if they return HA to how it was as many of the old players will return.

Dont you hate when that happens.
Its just Ironic
Now watch all ther "UbEr N00bzers" whine for 6v6 to come back. But i think the spike are going to change as soon as someone comes up with a decent balanced build.

What do you mean by balanced?
Are you saying that the Guild Wars team builds are, for better or worse, utilized with similar frequency in respect to balance and spike?
If you are mocking the game, I agree with you. But if you are being serious, I must disagree.
A majority of HA runs spike now, and most of you know why. The implementation of Kill Count maps catalyzed the formation of spike builds, so much that the balance between offensive builds, medium builds, and defensive builds (who plays these, anyways?) has been tipped.
So, to stay on topic, the game is not balanced. I disagree. But to continue with the flow of discussion (offtopic), I have one thing to say:
This forum is seemingly riddled with whiny people. Every thread in HA complains either about Kill Count, 8v8, a reversal back to 6v6, or some new imbalanced meta. Is it me, or did the human race (in this forum) turn to negative paste? The population should be happy that ANet implements changes to Guild Wars on almost a monthly basis. Other games that I've played have developers that hardly give a chicken sh*t about the player base.
My general consensus is that the forumers here should lighten up and play with a light heart. Don't take the game so seriously to the point of spewing mindless generalizations like "the HA community liked 6v6 better" or "everyone liked altar holding better than kill count" or "Anet never reads these forums!!".
2 cents. (run flameshield.exe)

I pointed out pretty much the exact same thing not ten days ago. I was told that Guild Wars is not "other games" which is pretty exasperating. If we were talking about, say, Unreal Tournament, people would say "it's not other games." If we were talking about BF 1942 They'd say "it's not other games." And so on. The people who are hell bent on whining (of which there are many) will deflect any rational attempt to generalize. Likewise any attempt to moderate their raging fury will be looked upon with contempt. You wouldn't believe the random hate that's been heaped upon me for a message so simple as: "Guys it's a game: relax. Quit if you don't like it. Breathe."
I mean, I've never been a big fan of the metagame--in any incarnation--but people strike me as being a bit heavy-handed with what they perceive to be necessary skill fixes. Someone recently said that Shadow Prison is "extremely broken."
I'd laugh pretty hard if it wouldn't make me cough so much. If you think SP is broken you need to learn how to play monk!

I agree with this 100%.
Guild Wars is pretty terrible now. I'm just waiting for Fury and Team Fortress 2 to come out now.

Yep, I've been pretty close to uninstalling the game recently too. I honestly think people are leaving GW in droves due to the lack of, well..its a long list, but pvp wise:
Regular skill balances that stop annoying gimmicks running rampant for way too long.
Changing the HA format. Why do gvg, ta and ra get new maps and HA doesn't? New maps would be a breath of fresh air in HA.
Team up structure. There could have been much better systems in place to find a team/member than spamming local chat. Does anyone use search???
community. There is no infrastructure in place for wide spread communication in game. Your world consists of your guild and your alliance if your in one when you log in. Sure, you have friends lists, but its so awkward a system.
I haven't seen Fury yet, but I have been keeping my eye on Warhammer Online. R v R seems a pretty neat idea (and something Factions should have been but never was).
Of course, getting a free pet by buying a PC magazine is gonna keep me playing for at least another 8 months.

I totally agree I thought that was ironic IV is a SR skill
In the GW article in PC Gamer Anet said they didn't like reinventing the game each time with the campaigns, as you can see this is the end result as Nurse said

W H A T ?
Everyone ran iway, everyone ran vimway and these builds were the most un-interesting builds in the game by a mile. c space ftw. At least icy veins requires a 3-2-1. Iway was interesting if you were a plant.

Firstly, for those of you who believe i was flaming alex. I wasnt, i was meerly stating we need more action being done on anets behalf because the progression of things is to slow. Call it almost constructive feedback in an unusual fashion
Anyways moving on, although HA was very good infact (the best its been infact when prophocies was still here). I think with the implimentation of factions it wasnt so bad. It was manageable i would say after a while. As i stated before now with the introduction of NF in the game. I dont think we can really make many judgements on what its effect is on the game untill we actually have a HA which is actually good (simular to that of the altar holding days).
One thing i would like to state though, is that pargons would most likely be better suited to the game if there armour was say simular to monks or necros ect, basically all casters and not like 80+. If possible could people comment on this idea. I think it would work but intrested to hear what you guys think.
Anyways halls as it is, is not doing anyone any good. Change it back to old alter capping i think because although some people complained about it you could live with it. Kick relic run outta of halls, and have HA like this until you can think of better mechanics that work for HA and everyone likes them and see how things go from there. Then instead of implimenting your new mechanics as perminant do a test week with them and see what player response is. Do this by maybe a poll on the official gw site or something.
P.S Also do a skill balance and try to be prompt with them because unbalance in the game sort of ruins HA.

The reason behind everyone running unoriginal builds, is simple.......Observe mode.
Everyone just watches what's in HoH atm and tries to run it.....a few days later we have these shit ass builds.
Remove HA from Observe mode....balance game. ...gogogogogo Anet,

Wait a minute, you want to change halls back to the old alter cap system? I must have missed that request in the other 32,000 post's you replied to. I'll pay more attention next time so you dont have to repeat yourself.

So, have any of you actually tried to run balanced builds? Many of the names I see on this forum I also see running the gimiky crap they are complaining about. I've actually gotten most of my fame since the reinstatment of 8v8 running some semblence of a balance build. I think that some of the whiners on this forum need to get out there and activly change the meta in the direction they want it to go instead of just QQing about it on forums.
