I have been toying with an article on removing the four new classes from competitive play.
However I do not think ANET have the balls to do such a thing. For one thing they are hell bent on trying to make badly designed classes and game mechanics work in competitive play.
What I want to know is this.
How many people would sign up for a player run tournament with these basic ideals.
1. Map selection rules. For now this would not include jade isle, corrupted isle or burning.
2. 6 core classes only and this means no non-core secondaries either.

1. Most definitely yes. I like corrupted but the other two annoy the shit out of me.
2. Most definitely no. I feel no need to return to the old days. I also dislike the lazy attitude of simply deleting something rather than fixing it.

Its not a return to the old days.
Its just a pruning of bad new things. The new skills for the core classes would be allowed.

I can't say I would with 100% accuracy, but I'd certainly seriously consider it.

So we can all play hexes, aegis, and conjure cripslash warriors in the tournament. Or, we can just play the existing ladder and use/fight the same thing.

I think QQ has the same idea on their forums. Maybe not best idea but would make balance a whole let less complicated with less classes.

I would be more interested in a tournament with specific skills/classes banned, rather than a blanket ban on anything new. Some of the new skills and professions have made their way into balanced builds, and create some versatile templates that are good for the game. It would be a shame to lose those while keeping all the gimmicky crap the core professions have recieved since Prophecies.

I agree. I'll go a step further and say that the only 3 maps should be Warriors, Hunters and Wizard's Isles.

Ritualist - Weapon of Remedy + water snare Rit/Eles. Ele/Rits with Weapon of Warding. Splinter weapon rits with defensive/skirmish skills.
Assassin - Return/Dark Escape monks. D-dagger/Death's Charge warriors.
Dervish - Avatar of Melandru.
I have yet to see a convincing argument that these templates are bad for the game.

Wearying strike is still retarded on a melandru's derv IMO. Besides, that, I believe that sins and rits have added some new stuff, but most of it's mostly used on secondaries. The sin and rit primary attributes just aren't that good.

Uh, Critical Strikes is one of the best primary attributes in the game if you are talking about passive effects.

I think I agree with Squidget on this. It would be nice to have some (but not all) of the tournaments with restricted skillsets rather than a blanket ban.
For example, on a Wednesday you could have "Core and prophesies only" tournaments running throughout the day, and so on. This would make for more interesting tournaments and in fact more interesting ladder play as people practised builds with the restricted skillsets. Was interesting playing on my second account last night (which is prophesies/core only), trying to come up with a build I could actually run that was viable.
I understand the desire from some of the top players to restrict the skillsets, I'm just not sure how good for the game as a whole this would be

I realy dont get the reasoning behind this, can you simply explain why?
what is it? "I want my Iway back!" or "there is a constructive problem with the skill balancing" (wich i realy fail to see) with this being said I am a core pvp player for over an year now.

because people like to cry and axiom thought it was a good idea.
personally, I'd rather just see the game balanced every so slightly so hexes aren't dominating every team.

That article would be a waste of time, I am amazed what impact a game can have on people's minds that their thinking goes against any intelligent rules of running a business.
Anet is on a better path right now with more frequent updates. Removing anything non-core would kill the product, hurt the reputation not only in the community but throughout the whole industry. Got nothing to do with balls, nothing.

I can't stop wondering what makes 20 years old talk and act like they are 80: "I remember the good old times", "kids nowadays..." and so on.
Maybe you should stop playing GW for a while, tour the world, go to india, to the far east, got to east europe, go to africa, go to anywhere you cant find your favorite burger. When you'll return you will be more open to changes.
