Anet+Time=fail?
(Posted this in the wrong section -.-)
Heres the list of ATs gvg times:
http://www.guildwars.com/competitive...2007/rules.php
(scroll down)
Here's ANOTHER list of ATs gvg times:
http://www.guildwars.com/competitive...tureupdate.php
Both of these lists are the same. Today's tournament my guild was planning on competing in, according to the list, starts at 21:00 GMT(Saturday)(This is the same as 5:00 PM EST). Me and my other guildmates all took time out of our schedules to come and participate. We show up(most of us) at around 4:15 PM EST(20:15 GMT). Then we find out the tournament has already started. An hour early.
I know the recent updates were to allow more guilds in, bla bla bla, and many people have complained about the odd times. So how about giving us the correct times, so even if odd times, we can at least participate.

I think Anet factored in Daylight Saving to the GMT times for whatever reason, even though the Eastern Time Zone right now is equivalent to GMT-4, as you've stated. Without DST, the Eastern Time Zone is GMT-5.
And sorry, but it annoys me when people use "EST" during Daylight Saving Time. The abbreviation is "EDT," or "Eastern Daylight Time." "Eastern Standard Time" refers to the time zone when not in Daylight Saving.
And yes, it's "Daylight Saving Time," not "Daylight Savings Time."

if you talk to the tournament NPC in your Guild Hall he will give you the start times of upcoming tournaments over the following 24 hours in *your local time* (I guess it takes it from your PC clock or something idk).
Talking to tournament NPCs about tournaments is key imo

Another thing about times and Anet that nobody seemed to have noticed yet is that Anet decided to play with the times for the monthly tournaments too. So the tournaments of August and September are probably going to be very quiet (10pm and 11pm GMT start, so in September it starts at midnight for Europe, 1am for Finland) No idea what the idea was behind that, but it doesn't really make sense to me.

While it's true that you can talk to the tournament NPC, they still need to keep a published schedule. I ask my guys to get on at a certain time, usually 30 minutes before the scheduled start...when ANET messes with that start time, it means we can't compete. The case and point that Elnai was trying to make. All my players showed up 30 minutes into the tournament, because they showed up when it was scheduled, not when it was actually happening.
As for checking the clock the night before, that's not always an option based on what time it currently is. We were planning on competing in Daily C, on Sunday, but at the time was still going on Saturday, so I could not see what time Sunday's would start, instead I had to just hope everyone was on early enough.
The ATs are broken for lots of reasons...scheduling is just one of them...and then not following your own schedule just makes things worse.
As for the other post about Savings time being a possible issue...as far as I know the tournament that Elnai was referring to...there were no Daylight changes that weekend, but I could be wrong about that.

it doesnt matter what time Anet schedules the monthly tournaments..the fact of it is that it will never be perfect for everyone in the world that plays..

Really monthly tournament schedule doesnt matter. People play it anyway. If its at midnight for me i'll just go to bed at 6pm and wake up at 11pm. It might even be better than starting at 10pm and staying up till 6am -_-

Well, there's no reason they couldn't put the playoffs on the next day instead of demanding GvG no-sleep marathon, but I suppose that's obvious.

Well, there is a reason the playoffs can't be the next day. The next day is for the HvH tournament after all.
