Why are they doing this?
I saw a high ranked GvG guild keep leaving the games they start so they can manually lower their rank, but why would they do this?

I suppose you mean HAnD? I've seen them doing it alot over the last week or two, and I can't think of any reason why.

They most likely are just wanting to get off of TV. Since rank doesn't matter anymore, only tournies, any slight advantage they can get would be useful.

Considering the amount of time they've put into losing rating, they might aswell have just made a smurf if they wanted to test builds.

If I am not mistaken, HAND has been known to run a single build. Perhaps tanking off TV is in hopes of developing new builds so that teams will prepare for their hexway and end up getting rolled by iway, for instance. It is also possible that they want to learn how to play more difficult builds and don't want to bother learning against other top 100 teams...?

Does being a lower rank make it so that you face more lower ranked teams in ATs? I know that a lot of HvH players tank their rating because the game generally tries to put players of similar rating together all other factors being equal.

i think its more to do with the fact at 1400+ rating it takes 10-20minutes+ to find a ladder game, which is hugely boring.

the insane waiting times at the top of the ladder are probably a good reason.
the "easier opponents" in AT's could be one aswell, but lately, the opponents get chosen on a more "random" basis than like, a month ago. We've fought quite a few R200-300 teams in AT's lately.

Yes. Waiting 20 minutes for a +0 is the height of gay. The retarded wait is yet another reason the game is dead and top guilds almost exclusively pug or smurf.

In the first round, seeds are random. That's why everybody's rank appears as "N/A" during the registration period. After that, teams are matched based on win/loss ratios, aggregate point score, etc. However, being of a lower rank does slightly increase your chances to fight lower-ranked teams, because rank is used as a consideration when all other factors are equal or similar.

I agree with this. Plus the fact that they don't want to go through the trouble of making a smurf.

Easier opponents? They have stopped at r20, then they went back up to 18.
