Also, learn to kite TOWARDS THE MONK.

The corallary of this is: if your the monk kite TOWARDS YOUR TEAM. (Or around them) And specifically towards anyone that packed warrior hate.
As a warrior I love monks that don't understand this. I can walk up to them go "Ohhh I'm the scary warrior", then run back and unleash my adrenal chain on the mesmer he ran out of range of.

Yea. I love necros and stuff that decide to run out of range of their monk. Bull's strike + sprint/rush + adrenaline combo = dead character out of res sig range.

But If I am kiting and moving around, aren't I doing less dammage also? Or healing less damage?

That really depends on the manner of competitive play going on. In GvG, I've come to appreciate, kiting directly away from the enemy team as a monk is most effective, so long as it is reasonable to do so. Most experienced melee players won't overextend to the degree that a monk can kite safely (the exception being AoD assassins or return warriors). If they do get bold and overextend, it becomes an easy kill (and sometimes the overextending warrior will drag a monk with him/her). As the melee returns to his/her safe range, you return to your team. Rinse and repeat as necessary. It's more important for you as the monk to stay alive than be within ideal range IMHO; the other monk, in that situation, can handle any spikes on teammates.
Now, for TA, or the constricted environment of HA, I would agree that its most effective to kite towards your team, using teammates to bodyblock the persuer's path.

Saddest Day of my life: trying out this monk in GVG to see him stand there while a warrior raged in his face, saying "I dont' want to get hit with bull's strike".
i think he got 60% dp in about 4 minutes, and used up the entire teams sigs. bad players ftl.

Nice job
THANK you so much for finally writing a good kiting article! I can't count how many monks there are in Random Areans just sitting there getting the stuffing beat out of them. It helps, and teaches some to kite. But sometimes if you dont know how to kite, you might not be that experineced, and if your inexperineced, your probably don't know about guild wars guru. But yes! Finally I might see more people kiting, less people standing still, and I might get a monk on my team in RA that wont cost my a gladiator point!
great job.

Good stuff in here, but a point to remember is that when you are kiting, if you're crippled or else moving slow, running from the warior causes him/her to get bonus damage for attacking your retreating backside.

Nice thread resurrection. But yeah, great article. Just need to highlight the critical hits against people running away. A must read for every new aspiring PvP'er.
People don't kite and then blame PvP'ers for being too elitist and not accepting of all players. GG.

i really don't see what isn't clear.
is there any opint kiting a warrior who has a speed buff up (most of them do) when you don't?
they may hit a bit less, but the fact that you are running away from them will give crits every time, plus they can easily bull's strike you (if they have it- many do).

Standing still and letting them rage on you is always the better thing to do.

Nah, also supportive players get the time to prot you, bigger hits on RoF are quite ok. Kiting towards friendly players (and cross their projected path) will also block the path of the one in pursuit.

If they have a speed boost up, you don't kite with your back to them. You kite slowly backwards side to side, or some such motion. That limits the amount of hits they get without auto-crits. It doesn't help against bulls, but you can stop. Really, there shouldn't be any debate, you should always be kiting if you are taking damage and are squishy. But when kiting, unless you have balanced stance (which no monks run anymore really so...) you shouldn't be running with your back to them if they have a speed boost.
