They have more experience manipulating movement in these past few months than most, if not all, of the other guilds in the monthly. Their weakness as I see it is simply that I haven't seen them run a build that isn't split dependant.

Anet being their usual slow selves . . . hasn't updated the list yet with either DF or vD. My list (assuming they include those two):
1. dR
2. rawr
3. DF
4. Reno
5. vD
6. Hand
7. MSI
8. frag

Oh, Ensign, this is why I love you. Now stop playing with dR so you can come guest with us more.
Can that dervspike beat up that 5 hexer 1 tree build that #sad has been running around with? I mean, I'm sure that dervspike has some serious hex removal (and an HEV), but 3 necros and 2 mesmers is quite a lot to remove.

With the increased popularity of LoD(as if it could have been more popular), I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 in a build(2 stand one runner) on Burning. Rising Bile can be ugly, but I don't see how the 5 hex could beat it.

I could definitely see two, with one on the runner, but three means you're basically speccing all into healing and very little into prot. That's one hell of a dice roll if they decide to go heavy physicals (or dervspike).

The dual Migrane and Humility could potentially still take it down. Then again, I'm just a PvE theorycrafter. Still, as far as counters go... WASD ran 2 lod with cure hex, 1 Divert Hex monk (all three with hex breaker), and dual HEV/Shatter Hex mesmers against us.

As for my picks:
American guilds: DF, rawr, dR
Euro guilds: vD, DoM, vile
Asian guilds: new RenO, SpNv
Guilds in bold are likely locks for top 8 provided they don't face each other in top 16.
The American guilds seem to be solid choices for top 8, with strong performances from before. RenO should be able to make top 8 even with their one build wonder. SpNv is decent enough in this month's weak showing of guilds, and it depends on their round of 16 matchup. vD seems to be a lock for top 8 if they play. DoM and vile appear to be on a decent streak lately, and are potential top 8 depending on their swiss round and round of 16 matchups.
Some other guilds of interest include: HAnD, BG, BdV, be, frag. Obviously not super powerhouses, but given how little guilds still play, matchups will determine their success.
Note to anyone who doesn't follow GvG but happen to stumble upon this thread: The game reporter predictions on guildwars.com is a joke. You're better off taking the predictions made by people in this thread :P

^same here. i'm pretty annoyed.
turned out 4 of my predictions are still in the top 16 (3 of these i would've changed for the above, vD is out, meaning i would've ended with at least 6) but whatever.

Only 2 of my top 8 actually made it. Hurray for bad rawr showing and Anet deciding games by "errors" again!

The final match wouldn't have been a match, regardless of the error. Dual shields up vs. dual paragons == lol.
I was sad to see iQ get knocked out of top 16 by an error though. I thought they were one of the best teams around.
Good monthly, overall. Our match vs. DF is one of the best I've played in a while.

im not surprised your predictions were trash, mostly relating to your euro guild pics. I mean come on, chances of vD making top 8 were slim given their current form, vile arent that good and everyone knows what they run and dom REALLY? Given recent performances of both be team and BdV neither had a shot really either
on another note i'd be surprised if anyone got more than 4 correct
my predictions turned out to be trash too but as is obvious i thought they were ok at the time =P

Yea, my predictions were way off (partially Anet's fault). iQ losing sucked even though I think they played well for missing pretty much a key player to their build.
And Squidget, I'm surprised that you lost that game to DF. IIRC, you guys had the advantage all the way pretty much up to VoD didn't you?

We were in a much better position pre-VoD, and honestly I think we got a little overconfident. We didn't have a backup flag at VoD, which forced us to run with a warrior while we left guys back to deal with the split in our base. The warrior running the flag stopped us from wiping them at the stand, and when part of their split team base-ressed and pushed on the stand they were able to wipe us.
In short, a series of small mistakes, combined with very solid play from DF, lost us the match we should have won. GGs anyway, and a well-deserved gold cape for DF.

The euro guilds were just shitters that were put on my list because I had nothing better to put. Because seriously, there's only 5ish guilds that are even competing for gold, and the rest are just ineptitude clumsiness sinsplit and bad guilds that got lucky draws.

Hey, this AT's flavor-of-the-moth build (dedicated 5/3 split with Sins) had some variety to it:
Dual Ineptitude
Dual Ride the Lightning
Dual Mind Blast
Dual Paragons
Corrupt Necro + Migraine Mes
