Been using magebane shot since the buff and its very nice when we've faced blockagons as it goes though the ususal ranger cockblock , shields up, making DA and Aegis interupting easy.

Debitalitating shot just because a projectile power leak with 1/4 more activation. What's wrong with that? /sarcasm
I'd really like to see that skill get run though, since it's just missing a little bit utility, maybe tone down the energy drain a bit.

Assassins aren't there because of cultural background, they're there because pandering to twelve-year-olds that want to be "sneaky" and/or bad players that need some PvP training wheels makes more boxes of Factions cross the cash register.
Spike is discouraged in general because the tactical considerations both playing it and playing against it are almost nothing. They make the game boring. You have one team with 7 drones that push 2 buttons on cue versus a team that's trying to mess them up enough for their infuser to catch it until the spike team explodes.
The reason that ranged damage remains bad is because of this. Damage needs to be compressable into a spike to really be usable, and allowing that capacity with simple point-and-click abilities makes for some extraordinarily dumb gameplay once you start getting a few too many copies of it. The skill requirement of ranged damage is pathetic, so the damage is pathetic to match.
