PvP balance/update survey
I'm just curious to see what's really on everyone's minds, and collect everyone's thoughts in an organized, concise format. So here are a few questions:
1.) What do you think the most pressing issue is in each of the major formats: GvG, HA, TA, and HB?
2.) If you could undo any 3 changes made in the past, what would you do?
3.) Other than those changes, if you could change 3 skills any way you want, what would you do?
4.) If you could make any 3 changes to other aspects of the game (i.e. objectives, map layout, format, NPC stats and behavior), what would you do?
5.) If you could have one aspect of the game completely overhauled, what would it be?
6.) When do you think the game was the most fun?

The two game mechanics that I don't like and never have are teleportation and spirits. So yeah, Factions dropped the ball on that one. There is such a large emphasis on map positioning in pvp, and then it all gets thrown to the wind when any A/ /A can jump down your throat from anywhere. Basically, it was probably intended to make the game better, but it had the opposite effect.
If I had to pick another thing which has bothered me, it would be anets preoccupation with AB structure by forcing it into other modes of pvp as much as possible. Factions came out and for a week or two, everyone played AB's. Then people came to the realization that it was essentially pointless on the whole, since only 2 alliances would control the capitals, everyone else was basically doing a lot of work for nothing. AB activity slowly dropped off and eventually it became a relaxed place where pve players could go to play their build of choice without getting mocked, and pvpers could go for fun occassionally.
Then all of a sudden it occured to someone at anet that this constituted a failure of sorts, and to prove that shrine mechanics were actually a cool idea, they went on a mission to stuff it into as much of pvp as possible; HA, HvH, and now TA. What's next? GvGs decided by shrine capping? The problem I have with this is a simple one. I don't like shrines. Just as teleportation takes away from map positioning, I feel shrines also take away from the traditional gameplay elements. It brings about a tank mentality, which has no place in pvp. It's not as if AB's were the coolest idea ever and pvp'ers everywhere demanded shrines for everyone and everything. It was a bad idea to begin with, and most people were just fine to leave it off in the corner we call Factions.
I don't really care that it's the main element of HvH. I've never played HvH, probably never will, and I assume the people who do play it obviously are fine with shrines, so that's fine with me. But when they added it to HA, it really just annoyed the shit out of me to be honest. There was nothing wrong with traditional HA gameplay, just as there was nothing wrong with TA gameplay. It's just updates which make things worse which bother me, which is becoming a really annoying and frequent habit of late. Before GW came along, I was under the impression designers patched games to make them better, not worse. I've since learned otherwise.

GVG: skill balances, broken mechanics like Leadership and teleports. too many top players have quit because Anet is more concerned about nerfing Griffons and Trolls than making the best part of their game fun again
HA: I have 10 fame, so no comment. :-\
TA: some sort of reward. Faction alone isn't enough... titles mean NOTHING in this game, and were one of the the worst ideas ever, especially for 4v4. Until there is a real incentive to play TA, there will always be 5 times as many RA districts as TA districts.
HB: you mean Assassin Battle? Who cares?

1) fix Rits.... make Spawning Power useful, reduce spirit attack range, give them a skill in Restoration that removes hexes, further nerf the living shit out of all Communing spirits
2) do something about the retarded mechanic that is shadow stepping
3) make new 4v4 maps if they want to "improve" arenas... not put stupid Assassin Battle maps in the rotation

pre-nightfall. I think Factions hurt PVE way more than it hurt PVP. Factions turned me off to PVE in ways I never thought imaginable. It wasn't until Nightfall that I started to not enjoy PVP either.

1) Observer Mode (best feature ever put into Guild Wars... I learned so much from watching it)
2) Dishonor... I hate that it had to be done, but at the same time, because of stupid titles and the behavior brought about by such pointless vanity, I feel it was necessary. I was actually having fun in RA (all I do anymore since the rest of the game is dead to me) with whole 4-man teams again. Win or lose, at least everyone tried. Then, of course, came the Assassin Battle maps...
3) The "J" button. Now THAT was a great thing for PVP! Having to delete and remake a toon just to change armor was possibly the most annoying aspect of PVP. That was one of the few things that Anet did right, that made PVP better for everyone. I doubt anyone misses the old system.

It HAS to be more frequent than it is now. It nauseates me that Anet cares more about people farming too many gold items than they do about people not enjoying the competitive aspect of their game. It enrages me that they ignore many, MANY well thought out requests for skill balances... and put hero maps in RA/TA, something that nobody even asked for. I lost any and all intention of buying Guild Wars 2 months ago. I will speak with my wallet, as will many disgruntled players. Of course, they will market the game for its PVE anyway, so that will hardly matter. Cause um, yeah, it takes real skill to kill Charr, you know. Sometimes it feels that they don't just stop at ignoring the PVP community, they go out of their way to spite the PVP community.

Strategic play in the sense of splits. Buff gale, Nerf sins, nerf lod, nerf mending touch. Also add a superfast server for europe vs asia matches. Oh and i'd unfreeze ladder and totally remove any guild or 14day requirement.

I enjoyed the game most around the release of Factions because of my own guild. I would also love to return to the times where everyone was noob, and things were new. Still i think the game is BY FAR in a better state thaan it has ever been. Mechanic and balance wise.

GvG: As pissed as I am about heroes in gvg, I have to say, the very unbalanced matchmaking aspect.
HA: Loss of non-elitist players.

More asking players, less just doing things. Some sort of in game or on site voting system every week or two weeks would be nice. A format that gives the updates that can be implemented, players vote on that, if it passes, that update is instituted. Then the next voting period the changes made can be repealed, but cannot be changed again for a 5 to 6 periods.

GvG: not enough interest, meaning not enough players. The competition just ain't what it used to be, for many reasons.
HA: Nightfall brought on so many low-skill builds that even HA players got sick of losing to dumb crap. GvG can be mitigated because of map size and objectives, but HA is enclosed and focused, so gimmicks get the most advantages.
TA: Never all that popular to begin with. The new glad system, and then the introduction of HB maps, discouraged most veteran TA players.
HB: Map design. Too many cap points and the NPC factor is lame. It becomes a battle of micro management.

VoD is a problem in GvG, because it forces players to play for it. What was meant to be a tiebreaker is now just the most important part of the battle. I'd move it back to 25 minutes and keep the current system of NPC stuff.
Some GvG maps favor one build heavily, and that needs to be worked out on a case-by-case basis
I'd make the HA maps larger and more diverse.

GvG: VoD, lack of players=lack of general interest
HA: It starting going downhill during Prophecies, and post Nightfall it's just utter crap. The lack of talent in 98% of the players there amazes me.
TA: No ladder, gives people much less of an incentive to play. Also, the Glad system chased away quite a few solid TA'ers who decided to just farm RA instead.
HB: Not too exciting at all. Requires oodles of micromanagement which most people don't have the patience for.

Which version of blackout (remember, it was nerfed about 20 times). I wouldn't support a change back to blackout at its height by any means, but a change back to one of the later versions would be nice. However, I'm not entirely that blackout would be seen, as on rangers mending touch is pretty needed and I'm not so sure about mesmers extending into backlines.

IMO, this should be For 15 seconds, your next (1...2) spells cost (10..18) less Energy to cast. But it's pretty much the same.

GvG. Lack of player base and general interest of the past.
HA. For me, I lost interest when IWAY and Bloodspike plagued tombs. I really liked the 6 man format and would most likely go back to playing again if that format were reintroduced.
TA. I really never had alot of interst in TA and mostly did RA out of boredom. From the start of playing HB I've always wanted to play those maps in a TA format but not as a mix like it currently is with the other maps. Maybe it will be a whole new arena someday.
HB. Assassins, assassins, assassins and now Recall, Recall, Recall simply piss me off.

1. VoD moved to 25-30 minutes so its not such a rush to get there like it is atm.
2. I hate how guild lords mirror movement at VoD. You clear a guilds base of NPC's but cant take advantage of your NPC's setting at the flagstand because they agro your lord leaving their lord setting out in the middle of nowhere. Their lord should continue walking to the flagstand and into your NPC fire.
3. I would remove the AoE effect of scythes.

1. The "J" button for PvP characters.
2. Restricting allied spirits to only one of each type.
3. Observer mode. This is really a double edged sword. Prior to obs, guilds builds were alot more of a mystery which was good. Also you didnt always know who was GvG'n at any givin time which was good. On the other hand obs is a great tool for studying guild tactics and individual play. It's really nice to be able to see what "tricks of the trade" people bring to PvP play.

Deadly paradox: Affects Spells only, you attack 60% slower.When it ends spells are disabled.
Melandru: gain 200 health, you do 50....20 less damage. Conditions wear off 60% faster.
Recall: You cannot end recall if you have been damaged in the last 20 seconds.
If recall is removed (forcefully) you take 80 damage.

Make gvg maps longer/larger (cramp spaces are bad >.>)
Add environmental effects to some areas. That hinder or buff people within them.
Add new forms, such as King of the hill, capture the flag, and other things so Guild wars pvp isn't so rehashed.

There are no specific skills that I feel are causing problems, but rather, the overall skillset and what it promotes.

1. At VoD, NPCs don't remain aggroed on the enemy team for long distances
Everything else I want that falls into this category has already been stated.

Skills and professions. There are far too many to make a balanced game; there need to be far fewer of both so that it isn't such a chore to balance it all. There need to be more general-purpose skills, less niche skills (remember Discord?), and more generalized professions. The generalized professions would ensure possible diversity while the smaller numbers of skills would make things easier to balance.
6.) When do you think the game was the most fun?
I can't really say; I only started GvGing seriously after Nightfall. Though I certainly enjoyed watching the Factions championship matches, so I'm going to go ahead and assume it was at least as fun to play then as well. So, Factions championship time.

More frequent balances, more listening to player feedback. It isn't Izzy's job to make the game the way he feels is most balanced; it's to make the game the way the community feels is most balanced. If that means going against his own ideals to meet the ideals of the community, that's what he has to do. Ensign in particular has shown time and time again that his insight into balance and problems with it is spectacular, and Izzy really needs to start listening to that insight a lot more, and a lot more often. I mean, Izzy is certainly much better than the average GW player at suggesting balance changes, but being a professional doesn't mean you're the best.
8.) What aspect of the game do you think needs more attention?
TA. No doubt about it.

Sealed deck. No doubt about it.

GVG: Viability of dedicated split and spike builds on the ladder. I think that a skilled team- not a bunch of HA scrubs playing spike on a guild they bought- should be able to have success playing 8v8, spike or split equally in an ideal game.
HA: No one who is into GVG wants to play HA. Figure out a way to get serious GVGers to HA.
TA: Its just not fun, but the opposite of GVG. There is too much variety, there are too many gimmicks out there to deal with that are viable that no team can prepare for them all. So it means a balanced build is very rarely going to string together 50+ consecutives like the old days. Eventually you will face a build you simply cant beat with play skill no matter what.

Make GVG's go back to 30 minutes. It would help make splits viable, and since turtling isnt an issue anymore, the whole bad teams delaying their loss until VoD isnt a problem.

I'd make critical agility an pvp skill so assassins could be playing in PVP.
I'd make lead attacks do something spectacular like a KD or a deep wound, have off hands do something minor and have duals do something spectacular. So even if the off hand misses and your chain is ruined you still got one great affect.
Buff Glimmer until it heals the same amount as Heal Other, buff Orison to 1/4th second cast time and heal a bit more.

Re-work divine favor to be e-management rather than heal bonus. Something that would reward monks for brining expensive but powerful skills like Heal Party.
