I actually had my first 1v1 match yesterday. I was playing my SF nuker at the time and ran into a water based ele that actually had a surprisingly decent build. The first go round I took her out simply because she was trying to get our side off the rez shrine but after she rezed and I was solo capping to the east side of the map and we ended up duking it out 1v1. It was a rather good fight, I barely made it out with 50 hp or so since she kept interrupting my skills. But once I got her with Mark of R. it was easy to spam SF. Anyway it was fun, we both ended up cracking up over it when it was over lol.

I disagree, although I think 1v1 in AB (for any prof) is rather dumb... there are lots of builds and players that can easily make the "wanna 1v1" trashtalkers put a sock in it.
In fact, in so many games, I've been relentlessly dogged by some annoying sin who can only take me down when I'm at 30% health or out of energy.. :P
On more then one occasion, when I'm doing the rounds solo capping (in the games where I get separated from my group, or people are mobbing) a sin or other melee char (sometimes even more than 1) will come up and try to pick me off... sure sometimes a particularly skilled sin or tank can kill me, but they do mainly during the times right after a cap or fight, when I'm low on energy and health.
My most memorable takedown was a 1 v 5, I was solo capping the ele shrine mid game.. and 2 Kurzick sins see me, and come rushing up.
Right into my aoe... killed the 3 ele's and the 2 sins.. couldn't stop laughing, that I died right as I capped the shrine coz a ranger came along and killed me when I was regenerating.. lol!

1x1 is always dumb, because the game was designed around team pvp.
It like challenging someone to a "race to x shrine". Meaningless.
I love playing a degen necro in AB, but 1x1 I basically get owned like nobody's business.
So what? I can still cap any of the shrines solo and if left unattended spread -14 across 5 or 6 people at once. Does that make me useless? I think not.

Ya, theres no such thing as a perfect build, you cant find a build that can cap, defeat mobs, and still be able to 1vs1.

I dont think so, there are some builds that can do all of the three, its just that wasting time trying to defeat the mob, whether or not you actually do is beside the point, because eitherway, its a waste of time. Its not that they're not possible, its just that they are not beneficial to winning in AB, they make you waste time or simply just take too long to do.
I use a certain build, that when I'm playing in top form, and when there is little lag, allows me to solo cap, and kill anywhere from 1-6 players/NPC(or possibly more, as long as they are clustered close enough) and take down most stragglers or random encounters. But it requires all the skills to be ready for casting.
Anything less then the full combo requires careful timing and smart skill use.

I remember a few times when I played with my sin in Fort Aspenwood. During one battle, three warriors one after the other tried to take me down, each of them failed. And then another time when I was there as my sin, I think it was some Wammo was annoyed that I was fighting with a team against him. He challenged me to a 1v1 and I swiftly defeated him.
But now I like to go AB with my necro, I got a build that is useful for fighting solo or in a team. Which can come in handy sometimes.
I think if you find a decent build and you learn the in's and out's of it, it is possible to cap, go 1v1 and defeat mobs. I haven't found one yet, but I do think it's possible

hehe, i have to admit that i am one of those luxons that really enjoys 1v1 fights, though i hate it when people actively go looking for them, just seems counter productive to the whole ab idea
at the moment i am playing a smite monk, so im pretty much garenteed to be targeted by a sin looking for a quick kill, until they hit Deadly Riposte, Sig of Judge holy strike and spear of light . Of course its then 'N00b Monk!' but im still laughing so who cares?
I think the problem with ab at the moment is that people are taking the game way to seriously... people really should relax and realise that its just a game, and stop taking personel vendettas against everyone that kills u!

I had a funny match recently where I (as a mesmer) was against an ele, whom I proceeded to kill. Then the ele started to heckle me about using a bad build and that his mesmer would totally own me, and I didn't even really kill him with damage, just degen. At this point his teammates said I still killed him and he was silent the rest of the match
When playing as caster classes, you get a lot of people saying "noob runner" and "I pwn u 1vs1" in Aspenwood, which I do often. A simple thing like ineptitude or a snare can put them fuming.

Oh hell I started a "Smiteway" Build in Grenth's Rejects for Alliance battle and the kurzicks HATE IT! I always get the silly 1v1 comments and I simply reply "No $#!^ Sherlock, anyone would own a monk 1v1" and they still go on gloating.
it's pretty sad somtimes.

I think it would be hilarious if anet made a 1v1 arena for a week, just so people will realize that 1v1 in GW is nothing but a glorified rock/paper/scissors. Ripostsetard wammos would be a laughing stock.

Heh, I actively search for lone assassins while im looking to cap.
They get close.... "You're all alone"
Signet of malice when they do whatever it is they do that makes me die fast =P
Healing sig.
get some adreneline
Barborous slice gash final thrust =dead ass.
They try to run "you're all alone" , dash hurt you more.
It's even better when they're busy capping I watch them kill the npc's walk up and IWAY then kill them.
I've yet to lose to some dumb assassin.
meh it'll happen, but I know I can take the commonly used builds no problemo.

This thread is so funny, not because of the fact that it's just people bragging about 1v1ing others who try to find them, but because of the builds that many of the people are posting. '(^_^)'

A few days ago in Saltspray there was this smartmouthed Kurz Sin suffering for delusions of grandeur, was so hilarious, he was running his "mouth" talking trash from the very start of the match saying noob this, runner that, and the very articulate "suxon" comments.
2/3's into that battle, while more then half of the luxon side was stuck mid trying to fight, cap or god knows what, I took it upon myself to push left...
I stormed the far ranger shrine on my own with him on my tail. I proceeded to work my combo on the 2 npc rangers, and right as the rangers were keeling over, this sin just runs straight in to the aoe of my combo and got squashed by the last 3 seconds of it. I couldn't help but laugh in all chat. All the sin could say to his Darwin Award worthy demise was "ppphhhh... "
I guess some kurzicks like meteor showers. After all Fire is known for purification. Maybe he hadn't meteor showered in weeks. xD

On the other hand, waiting 5 sec for shield bash to expire would also make their Shadow Prison expire so their combo is gone either way.

God bless ANet for not making the disable time strength-related!

The funny thing about glads/riposte noobs is that you can just ignore them and they cant do anything to kill you. So funny when you exterminate a platform on solo, with the noob trying to provoke me into attacking him, by the time I killed all the NPC's on the platform, a nice caster arrives to finish him off

Funny is when some smart ass Sin starts talking about pwnage when he kills my Mesmer .. cancels aura of displacement and runs like a bitch.
I assume AoD is the new cookie cutter elite?
