This is a big failure. Thanks for some crap i'll never use. The cloud breath wand, and non-elite warrior tome won't even get me money to invite guests.
Why would pvpers want this?
Someone should lose their job for this idea.

Seriously. Who thought it would be a good idea for PvP players to spend their PvP faction on PvE items? Instead of on anything useful to a PvP player (RP's, Sigils, Guest Invites).

I was hoping the feature would be something interesting, like unlocking skins for pvp characters, increasing the number of your guild's gvg matches kept recorded (or their duration), or really anything even remotely interesting and related to pvp. I wasn't expecting garbage like creme brulees and lockpicks.

Well you can sell these to pve players to afford your sigils, etc.
and pve players will pvp more often probably for this and slowly integrate.

Honestly, I think Anet is a bit out of touch with their players with this decision.
What on earth makes Anet think that random pve items are of interest to an experienced UAX PvPer?? THE REWARD NEEDS TO BE PVP CENTRIC. I'm not really sure how this glaring issue was ignored. For me personally, the only saving grace of this implementation is the possibility of it dropping super rare HoH quality drops, and I somehow doubt this is the case. I usually try to be supportive of Anets new implementations regarding PvP, but they've messed this up pretty bad imo.
It's only better than two things: 1) Nothing and 2) MINIPETZ
edit: I believe part of why this feels so wrong is because of how it was advertised. Being advertised as "A new use for balthazar faction" leaves the impression that it will primarily benefit those who have already maxed out the other usage of faction (unlocks). This is decidedly not the case... Should it have been advertised as "A new incentive to get PvErs to PvP" people would be less disappointed.

Yeah I agree. Unlocking skins for PvP, free invites/guild halls/guild hall NPC's....anything...would be better then this. Why a PvP player needs alcohol or sweets for lame PvE titles? And chances for droping good rare item are small. Not to mention tomes, something you don't need in PvP anyway. And plz, don't tell me how I can sell it if I don't need it. That's why I do PvP, I am sick of trading in PvE and overall player intelligence in that part of the game (this isn't an offense to anyone specific).

As mentioned, this is pretty useless. There were plenty of decent suggestions made in this thread (Sigils, guest invites, dye, Guild Hall NPC's, Miniature Izzy ), and plenty of people saying that a chest that spawns PvE items wouldn't be very useful. What happened to that feedback?
Also, whilst it may bring more people into GvG, it doesn't do so as well as it should. The vast majority of PvE players are going to be playing RA in order to get this faction, and very few of those players are likely to move on to the more competitive areas, which is what the community needs. The suggestions for things like a Chest after 5-10 wins in TA, or PvE items gained after X GvG wins would be so much more beneficial.

I disagree; I fail to see a deciding difference between that implementation and this one. Depends on what Anet was trying to accomplish. Again, I blame misadvertisment for making it sound like these rewards would actually benefit PvP players.

Because this update encourages PvEr's to RA where the average player skill is low, and poor players can be easily carried to 10 wins by good players, and there's no real need to improve as a player.
Improving PvE rewards in GvG do the opposite, people might be encouraged to form a team with Guildies or PuG, which breathes life into the lower end of the ladder, which eventually shifts the stronger players to the higher ends of the ladder i.e. it brings more players to GvG. Improving rewards for TA has a similar effect, TA is a much more attractive starting ground for a group of people looking to PvP due to the decreased time in setting up a party. Players might PuG, form guilds or improve their friends list, and then might make the shift to GvG, if they enjoy TA.

No. If players who enjoy PvE want to get leet items, why would they consider a brand new format just to get something they can already get through a format they know and enjoy? The rewards would have to be above and beyond what PvE can offer, and this is really only determined by the drop rate of the chest in terms of actually valuable golds. From the viewpoint of a PvE player, I would view this as a great way to grind some RA with my leet stance tank in order to get some alcohol or sweets toward titles, nothing more.

The best outcome for Balthasar, related to time, is HA.
But i agree to the most PvP players. This reward has no benefit for PvP players. It will just lead some Farmer into the PvP section. Which one out of the PvP sections will get the most Farmers will show the time.

Because they've always thought about PvPing but haven't really had the motivation? Because they want to do something different occasionally? Because they haven't been able to convince any friends to do it with them, but now they can with the advent of rewards? Because their friends are asking them to come and help them out since they want some of the rewards?

They don't have to be better, they either have to be different, or easier to obtain if you play well (unlike in PvE where any idiot can run a farming build and get lucky with drops).

Yes, that's exactly why I said that the rewards should be based around arenas that require more skill.

I'm pretty sure that a rewards system designed towards high-end PvPers would have been much better and much more appropriate, because those are the people with UAX and a continued massive faction flow that don't really have anything to do with it.
Designing it towards new PvPers will probably just delay their progress in unlocking the needed skills and items while they have fun getting PvE items in RA with their really bad builds.

Man, I can't believe that Arenanet implemented a new way to use Balthazar faction. I'm very frustrated and angry about this.
