Veil of Thorns
This skill seems like a rather good anti-melee skill. At only 8 Earth Prayers, one can keep a 10 second cripple. I've been thinking of maybe a Mo/D with Veil of Thorns would be viable for RA/TA.
Discuss.

Fairly sure there were a few posts about this on QQ forums. I'll try to find it.

I think you are better of using Return instead of Veil of Thorns. Lets just have a look at both skills:
Return - 5e 1/4c 15r
Veil of Thorns 10e 1c 20r
* You don't have to spec in your secundairy for return, you have to spec for VoT.
* Return wins on energy, cast time and recharge.
* Return is harder to get interrupted, while VoT is easy to interrupt and to remove.
* Return can get you away from enemy melee/rangers.
* VoT gives u a longer cripple, but a good team will just try to kill you while it's down.
In my opinion Return > VoT

It's expensive, it's prone to interruption and removal, it fails the moment you get snared or KD'ed, and it's not going to provide you with a dependable "oh shit" button the way a stance or Shield Bash will.

[skill]Grasping Earth[/skill] is a better choice than [skill]Veil of Thorns[/skill] if you want to snare melee. At 0 Earth Magic it lasts 8 seconds and costs just 5 energy. It also lets you bring the ever-so-useful [skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill].
On top of that, hexes are slightly harder to remove than conditions because hex removal skills aren't spammable.

10 energy sort of kills it imo. On top of that anyone with a snare themselves is going to make short work of you. (Shadow prison sins/Cripslash warriors/Harrier's Grasp Dervishes)

I agree. However, everytime someone attacks you, they get crippled. If they're persistent. No one can get rid of a condition that fast. Even if they did, it would cost much too much energy.

I dont get it.
Why bother the forum with this ?
Put this enhance of you, go to RA and try it out. See how it works.
If it is good than come here and ask is it worth it in GVG ?
The simple answer to your Q is: NO
- It is removable
- It costs 10 energy
- You have to spend points in a side attribute just for that
- If the melee got to you, this will not help: A sin will use his sequence so fast, before you run away. A warrior will KD you either with hammer or with bull strike or with shock - so again you will never get away.
Now each of those reasons are enough to tell you it is useless in what you want to use it for. But all of them together.....

Don't flame the man for asking a question. It's a hell of a lot better to ask a question than to be ignorant, and there are a lot of players out there without the expertise to accurately evaluate a skills use even after playing with it, forget just by looking at its description.
Besides, I'm fairly certain I could refute the points you listed to the satisfaction of most people. That doesn't mean that you're wrong about Veil of Thorns being a poor choice, it just means that either you yourself aren't sure about the basis for evaluating a skill and you're just trying to sound like a know-it-all punk, or that you think you're so much more important than the rest of the people who visit this forum that it isn't worth your time to list reasons that are actually important and just rattled off the first couple facts about the skill that came to mind.
Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I'm not a big fan of unprovoked flames on somebody who actually cares enough to try to learn something.
