RAWR Cup Announced for April 5th, 2008
The next RAWR Cup date has been officially set. On April 5th, 2008, the second round of the RAWR Cup Title Series will begin, and with it feature more contests, more chances to win, and best of all – more prizes!
Just like the last tournament, the RAWR Cup is designed to offer a competitive experience to players of all skill types. 3 different divisions will cater to a specific skill-type: The Dragon division designed for seasoned players who live and breathe Guild vs. Guild Battles, the Tiger division for those who enjoy spending most of their time roaming and saving Tyria from Grenth and his minions, with a Phoenix division for the players in between.
Prizes this time range from the revolutionary Killer Nic Gaming Network card created to reduce in-game ping and allow players to gain those precious milliseconds needed to conquer the enemy, to in-game minipets such as Ausras and Destroyers to Long Haired Yeti and Oni.
Want more prizes? In addition to rewarding the top finishers of each division, the RAWR Cup will also be giving away other fun prizes, such as a 1-2GB Thumb Drive or extra character slots for your Guild Wars account, to players and teams that win specialized contests and our own version of 'spectator events'. So on top of playing the tournament, you can also
participate in these mini-contests for a greater chance at winning a prize!
Sign up! There's no reason not to! The registration information, full list of prizes, and rule/contest details can be found at the tournament website.

So the two higher divisions don't give rewards for 5-8th but the lowest division does? I guess it's a good way to promote new GvG teams but I just find it a bit ironic.

I don't really see how it's ironic. It gives the PvE guys a better chance for a prize! Unless you're a hardcore PvP guy with a minipet collection, I don't really see why you would want minipets over a real world prize.

It's bad because it encourages mid range guilds to drop down a tier for a guaranteed chance to win a minipet by noobstomping PvErs versus a hard fight to get top 4 in their own division, since it'd be sad if they can't make top 8 in a lower division. Why else did RIP and KK drop down to division 2? Because there weren't enough prizes in division 1 for them to realistically win so it's "better" for them to noobstomp and get a 50/50 chance of winning a mouse. Sure it might encourage one more PvE team to join, but if mid range guilds go down a tier, they'll most likely fill those top 8 spots.

I think I need to bring this up again next time we have a meeting... The more I think about it, the less sense it makes. I myself would probably rate the mouse and logitech headset on the same caliber of a prize... so why not drop to the lower division where 5-8 gets prizes too... We did go through an extensive discussion about how the minipets should've been distributed though.

I'm not sure what you consider mid range guilds but it seems the Tiger Division has some r500s/decent ratings with a good number of matches under their belt in there. I'm not sure if there are any PvE oriented guilds who have joined the Tiger division but I would argue that it definitely isn't as advertised (little to no GvG experience).

I think Yet was the guild that was rank 200. I somehow recall KK being ~80, but I may be wrong. Either way, RIP ownzzzzzzz

And that's what I mean. Chances are, half of those guilds should've been in the second division. But they saw the ease with which they can stomp PvE guilds and get a free headset, or at worst a minipet. Why fight for say a 25% of getting a prize in division 2 when you can be guaranteed one in division 3?

honestly the prizes for the lower two divisions are pretty sweet. I would rather have the headset or mouse than the network card.

Tournaments where guilds get to choose which division to be in tend to cause that regardless. And if you based the guilds' allocation on some number like ratio, you'd have the smurfing problem... not much can be done about it, sadly.

The network card is pretty interesting actually, have a look at its features. Objectively it's worth more than a mouse, but its benefits are much more subtle.

If the Network Card really works as they say it does (reduces ping), it is incase a very good addition to gamers.

those Killer cards are a gimmick and don't really improve your ping or FPS by more than 5% usually... a ping change from 105 to 100 isn't going to make your gameplay experience revolutionary.... but at least someone is trying to make the gw community more interesting... for that i commend you.

I have one in my new comp and this things just insane. Yes it did actually lower my ping considerably. I went from around 300-350 ping average to now around 120 average. It will also highly depend on your isp connection as well. (mine is using a 5meg cable connection)
also for anyone doing any types of torrenting or music dl's, the connection speed does very noticeably increase.
