The limit on the number of matches that could be listed in the Special Events section was decreased a little while ago, which is why they have been getting pushed off. It should be increased again soon, so this wont be as much of an issue.

That's only part of the problem, the main reason is that the recent update is going to be reverted. Which means back to rawr spike meta, and with no prizes and everyone running rawr spike... Not to mention the servers are getting worse, and will only continue to deteriorate.

So has there ever been a thought from Arena Net to provide the matches for download?
This could be a ton of fun to have with an out of game viewer or an ability to load the match from a local copy similar to template saves. I would think the out of game viewer would be a better option as far as bandwidth is concerned.
Either way just a thought... maybe in GW2?
