A couple questions
First, If I fail at Heroes Ascent, do I fail at Guild Wars? I'm good at every other sort of PvP except this. One of my teammates recently told me to 'go back to RA, and learn to PvP'.
Second, how would one test builds in HA? I'm trying to test out a new Channeling/Restoration hybrid build, but everyone automatically kicks me when they figure out i'm not running sway.
I'm not complaining, I understand that HA is intense PvP and that not all builds would work.

The only way to test out a build is form your own group or grab guildies/friends/alliance members.

Alot of people, I'd even go so far as to say the majority of people in HA, have developed a very closed minded attitude to the game. There is an overwhelming rejection of skills/builds/templates simply because people dont see them everyday or in HoH all the time. Many people you will meet in HA will point blank reject an idea you have even if you know how to make it work, mostly because they havent the talent nor understanding to approach the game from outside the box.
Thats the problem with HA, amongst many others, is that almost everyone is playing inside the box, finding players who are, willing, able, and who enjoy playing outside the box is almost impossible and like people have posted already, something only encountered in guild teams or from players on your friend list.
Dont pay attention to what people in HA say to you, dont take anything to heart. The truth that many people seem oblivious to is that a monkey could win HoH. Monkeys win fame everyday with their sway builds or playing bitch bars 24/7 and developing overblown egos from doing so. The majority of HA players are bad, whether they have a deer, wolf tiger or phoenix or not.
Enjoy PvP the way you enjoy it, if noone can appreciate your creativity just let them join everyone else on the rat race to rank. Its almost a life lesson that many people seem to have forgotten because this is an online game, ingenuity and invention is something to be celebrated, not bashed.
Dont pay any attention to the HA rabble. In fact, if you are looking for a form of PvP that rewards invention and creative talented played STAY AWAY FROM HA.
It all comes down to how much BS you can withstand in your journey to whatever rank you want.
If anything HAing till r9 will do wonders for your patience and tolerance levels...

ha has changed over past few years to a place where innovation is shoved out the door... people just farm with what works... its turned into the same crap as those pvers that do UW every day of their life.... thats just sad...

If you fail at HA, it means you fail at HA, not at GW. It's a very different format than other types of PvP, and it takes time to get used to what works and what doesn't.
If you want to test builds in HA, your only real option is to recruit a group of friends, guildies, or alliance members who will all understand their roles on the team, and the idea behind the build. Most people who recruit you to their groups will want you to run a specific bar, and most people that you PUG to a group of your own will fail because they won't be able to see the goal of the build, or won't be able to play it properly. In fact, I'd avoid PUGs in HA whenever possible, because a lot of them are pretty bad, and it's a lot more fun to play with friends.

Hey Cosmic Error,
Get this "to fail or not to fail?" out of your head, it's bullsheit; you can ask yourself that question again when you reached rank 6 and then again at rank 9...
Now for getting there,
I suggest reading the sticky first:
How to play Heroes' Ascent
and this very helpful thread too:
Ultimate Strategy Guide to Heroes Ascent
First;
HA, like GvG, is all about the team. This is one reason why your "new Channeling/Restoration hybrid build" isn't embraced with open arms. The build of one team member is as much as one skill on your whole bar, it can be good itself but doesn't make a difference without 7 others that support it. So you need 8 builds and voip communication like ventrillo (or Teamspeak which is unfavored by the community) to get somewhere.
Second;
If you wanna play "new innovative" builds, especially on low ranks, you gotta make your own teams. Provide them with the skill bars and equipment, have a ventrillo server at hand and call tactics. This can be very hard and time consuming at first and especially on low ranks. A dedicated HA guild or a well kept friendslist can help a lot. However I suggest to become familiar with the maps, objectives, common builds and their counters before you start calling yourself.
Start with reading the stickies and observe HA matches, and get some buddies, like Edwards said: you need friends if ya wanna get somewhere.
I hope this helps or others may be more helpful.

I don't see how that's possible. I think you think too highly of yourself! How can you be good at every sort of PVP and fail at HA?
Why would you even ask such inane nonsense if that was so.
