Mind answering a few questions? (And maybe a bit of build help)
I'm just beginning to play PvP and would like to start with GvG, as it seems to be the most common form of play, but I have a few questions I need answered first (and maybe a bit of build help). Firstly, how do you get into a "good" guild. Obviously, a good guild won't just recruit players off the street. Also, do any guilds accept and train newbies? I would just train in the RA, but the gameplay and strategy seems to be much different than that of GvG. Also, I need a little help on my build. I've read up on most of the battle field positions, and I think I want to be a mid-liner. I also decided what build I wanted to use, a Blinding Surge Elementalist. The standard Blinding Surge E/any is...
Blinding Surge
Lightning Orb
Gale
Optional
Optional
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Air Attunement
Resurrection Signet
Air Magic: 12+1+1
Energy Storage: 12+1
However, after the nerf of Gale, I'm on the edge of whether or not to use it. My concern is that without the KD, I won't be able to hit with Lighting Orb much. I also need some opinions on what to use as the options (and possible Gale if I decide to replace it). Some of the ideas I've come up with are Storm Djinn's Haste, Lightning Bolt, Hex Breaker, and Diversion (I'm pretty sure Diversion won't work, but Mesmers are going to be looking to Divert my Surge, so I could possibly divert an attempted Diversion...Maybe)
Thanks for any help.

You don't want to have too much of an attribute split, so bringing diversion on your air ele bar might not be a good idea. Gale is always good. It's an interrupt and a snare. If you're going to midline (as opposed to flag running), you don't need storm djinns. Enervating Charge is really good to spam on enemy warriors. With bsurge and enervating, you won't need anything else to spam. Spend the rest of your bar on utility, possibly a heal party or convert hexes, or even a ward.
Getting into good guilds requires you to either know people or to establish yourself somewhere else, like Team Arenas or Heroes' Ascent. There are a lot of guilds willing to take new players, as they are probably new or learning as well.
The one thing you want to make sure you do is to never, ever play gimmicks. Always play balanced. Playing gimmicks only farms rating, it doesn't make you better.

also in GvG you don't get to choose what build to play, you're told what build to play, or atleast in any serious non-byob GvG.
and http://teamlove.us/kisu/ is a site for some guilds that take on new people to GvG and help them get better, a good place to start out.

You don't need damage on the ele: just stack on defense like Blurred, Enfeebling Blood, heck even wards, and wait for VoD.

Exactly. If you want blind, people run Glyph of Immolation+Steam and Blurred Vision now.

as has already been said (so why am i posting...) you dont just bring some build in gvg, the guild decides on a team build and you run one of the slots.
also, yeah bsurge is definitely deader than dead, gvg ele = water ele

Not sure gvg is the best place to start if you're new to pvp either. It can be pretty frustrating getting rolled by teams.
