Default HA equivalent in GWII

Would you guys like or expect a HA equivalent in GWII (nothing has been announced yet concerning this). I mean, most of us think that HA has been a mess (post-iway) and some people even says that ANet ignores the HA pop for the only reason that they do not want to face their mess. So, HA in GWII?

C'mon no flaming fest... A constructive conversation please (if it isn't too much asked for these forums)

I would like to see HA again. I love its unique style - different map rotations and goals for each one, like kill count, altar capturing, etc. It's really innovative, and kinda fun. I think it's always going to be a step below GvG in terms of difficulty because it equally focuses on build wars and player skill, where GvG tends to favour skill more. But pfft. It's about fun!

I also think every form of emote/ranking system should be scrapped.

I also think hero battles should be scrapped as a form of PvP that warrants prizes... but that's for another thread XD

It has been stated that there will only be GvG style and World Style PvP. Ha and GvG were always to similar, however, due to GvG's more punishing system for losses (rating and the ladder system) not to mention the prizes, GvG always attracted the more competitive players. HA's rank system was, and still is, all grind, hince Gimmick Builds. Anest has learned from their mistake and is not (to the best of my knowledge) making a "grind based" form of PvP, because it just turns into Gimmick farming hell.

I think i different type of HA would be needed if they decided to implement another type of arena like that. Im probably not the most qualified to talk about this as my pvp knowledge isnt that great, only participating in gvgs about 5 times and HA until i reached rank1 (then i gave up), but the rank system NEEDS to go, it broke the fun aspect of the arena and forced a lot of players to run the meta builds so they can get there rank up.

Different type of reward at the end targeted more at pvp players, i dont know what and I dont want to think of it. IMO it needs to be split completely from pve, remove the grind/rank system and offer something more to the players.

This is all IF they decide to put it in GW2.

You know 95% of HA community only plays it for that, right?

Removing rank/emotes from HA now would kill the format. However, most people feel that if there's an HA equivalent in GWII that it should feature rewards that don't encourage grinding

That being said, I think there should be a form of HA. GvG is an excellent format for people who are really into it, but for guilds who can't alway have their core 8 on, or don't have time to do ATs and such, HA is a great way to do some PvP. HA is by nature a format which encourages quick games and build wars. As long as the meta isn't as stale as it is now, that's perfectly fine. People complain about gimmicks only because there are so few of them. Last night I faced four rspikes in a row. Some nights it would be four sways or four hexways. The format isn't ruined by constantly playing against gimmick builds, it's ruined by constantly playing against the SAME gimmick builds. If they change the reward system and balance the skills a bit better, HA can be a fun format in GWII that's a step down in seriousness from GvG.

you remove rank, your giving people no incentive to play ha or what ever it may be, so stop saying remove fame and emote, cause it wont help

and yea they should make something similar to ha

Again, removing fame will do no good.

Remembering how good tombs was in the beginning then I would like to see it again. Anet made an awful amount of mistakes managing HA in gw1, from bad game mechanics (kill count, implementing 6v6 just to get it back to 8v8, those alliance battles, hoh relics, and so on) to *cough* very limited *cough* success at skill balancing. Just hope they learn, even though I don't believe I'll buy gw2.

The quick games part is offset by the 30 mins - 2 hours setting up.

And yeah they should encourage Build Wars in GWII so it doesn't become a dead arena. Because it's working for TA right?

Keep the fame but lose the emote? What good is fame without the emote? it's meaningless.

My guess is that GW2 will have MORE emotes ... given how popular they are ... look how many people are doing the Zaishen emote ... they're cool. A GvG emote in GW2 would be great!

Oh, and regarding the maps ... you have to think Anet learned alot of lessons with the current maps....

They should come up with a new system that rewards good play, and not farming.

As much as QQers hate "rank discrimination," rank and the emotes is what keeps people playing HA. In fact, it's what gets a lot of people even remotely interested in HA. Without titles, it'd be impossible to distinguish an experienced player from a less experienced one, and pugs are going to be a random grab-bag scrubfest that will be dominated even more than now by any friends list group. Having no rank means only the most "famous" players at the very top will get groups, while others will be randomly grabbing players hoping they're good.

That. Except I think the better players would simply not play if they didn't have a friendlist group instead of trying to pug.

They might remove the emotes (although I don't think so... with the zrank emote anet seems to have changed their stance on this; they even promote spearing others' corpses), but I'm sure there will be a title for every PvP format in GW2.

But I don't know if we'll get a HA at all. In GW1 it has mostly been a failure, why would they want to hit their head against a brick wall again?

I agree that there needs to be a way to tell the experience of a player in order for PUG groups to be possible. However, I think that in GWII they should either change the way in which an emote is earned, or give some other type of reward that doesn't encourage people to grind. Ask many experienced HA players, and they'll tell you that PUGing right now is a joke because rank simply doesn't mean anything anymore. Picking up a r7 player could mean you're picking up somebody who's played in all different formats and knows how to play their proffession very well, or it could mean you're picking up somebody who has swayed/iway'd/SF spiked all of their fame and is a terrible player. One of the failings of HA at the moment is that there needs to be a solid rank system for PUGs to be possible, but the current rank system is so flawed that it can't really be used to gauge a person's ability as a player. I'm well past the stage of whining about rank discrimination. I could care less if some r9+ PUG won't take me because I rarely play outside of guild/friend groups anyways. I am saying that when we do have to PUG a few people, or for people who play mainly in PUGs, the current system makes it very hard to find good players.

Personally I have just got in to HA ing and like the change of pace from PvE, I dont have the dedication for GvG and hope that GWII has some type format that is a buid wars type Pvp for the more casual player. Also I love the different mapps with different goal, kill count, elimination, king of the hill, etc.

Here's to hoping they dont lose too much of GWI

And as far as emotes go they arent going anywhere, too many people strive for recognition, what is better than emotes?

I Agree with this. Most people dont look to your title (unless they invite u in the group and wanna know what rank you are), but a shiny emote that flashes all over the place makes people look at it, recognise you.

Change the fame system :
You get 1 fame for a HoH victory (2 for a 2nd (consecutive) victory, 3 for the 3rd .... till a certain amount). Title ranks should ofcourse be scaled towards this decrease in fame gained.

This will make farming the first few maps useless. And it makes sense : you gain "fame" by having your name spammed across the game, holding the altar of the gods, not by beating up heroway in the underworld.
