What gets me is the fact that the server failures have been going on for at least 12 hours ( and the day before from what was said). Is there NO ONE at anet doing any monitoring???

I was unable to load any HB battles with consistency yesterday. Guild Chat/Alliance Chat going down, unable to load PvE areas. It's more than just 12 hours, yes.

Yeah because they totally only have 1 data center and it just so happens to be right next to them.

No.

They have ~12 datacenters all across the world, so they have to make phone calls to people, see whats up, etc. It isn't just *FLIP A SWITCH*.

edit:
Also most of those hours were not during work hours.

I don't like this either but cut them some slack. It's harder than you think it is!

Did I say its a flip a switch? no.

What they do have is community liason, complaints going into the support and one would hope some form of monitoring systems with their servers that would flag up a major thing such as this appears to be.

Given that it was said in the HB area last night that it had been happening for 2 days - that would put a whole Friday workday in the middle of this so I actually dont feel like cutting them some slack until I hear something from them about this.
