PVP noob
I have been playing GuildWars off and on since it originally came out and have only played PVE. I recently completed the prophecies campaign and have been dabbling in Factions and EOTN. I am a little disappointed in the weapon drops for my warrior and have recently been looking into starting PVP action. I have a few questions...
1)Can PVE characters compete in PVP games and then go back to playing PVE.
2)What are the benefits to playing PVP (other than the thrill of playing against other people)? Im speaking about weapons/armor/items/gold.
3)I really want access to cool looking weapon skins and weapon upgrades. I have seen people with a whole armory full of cool weapons and I cant see them getting the weapons from the measly drops in the game. I would love to be able to pick a certain "skin" weapon ie. "runic sword, find it somewhere, add upgrades to customize it to my liking. This seems VERY unfeasable in PVE so maybe its possible in PVP (which I am hoping can then be transferred back to PVE). (on a side note, a good trading system would probably be a wonderful tool to be able to do this, unfortunately guild wars has a horrible trading system. A auction house would be a god send.)
4)Where do i start?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

1) ofc they can.. just map travel to pvp isles, but u can't just "'make" the equipment u need by pressing "J" key.. only pvp chars are affected by "J"
2) if u participate in tournaments u get tournament points that u can exchange for elite armor, or wepons... u get balthazar faction for unlocking skills, weapon upgrades
3) i don't play pvp, but i know that u can get them for tournament reward points..aska pvp'er
4) Which means?

If your main goal is to have some cool stuff like the runic sword, I would say that the best would be to buy it from a player
It is not really too expensive...
As for PvP, you will need a lot of time to get the item... I mean, really...
PvP is mainly if you are bored of IA and want to play against "smart" people, which is challenging every time.
4) To start with PvP, Random Arenas are an obvious choice but... Well... I think it's not the best. It's filled with bad and/or arrogant people, etc...
If you are really interested by competing against other players, try to join a guild that is beginning to play GvG
I think it is the best way to begin PvP, cause you will need a lot of advices

I agree, buying the weapon I want would be optimal but have you seen the trade logs in game lately? they are a nightmare of clutter and useless information. The unofficial auctions seen to be the way to go, unfortunately you need to be able to be online at the same time as the seller to get the item and I am usually on at weird times. I really wish Guild wars would get out of the stone age and give us an auction system or at the VERY LEAST some sort of mailbox system.

1) Yes, if you have the money to make armor for what you need to play.
2) Beating other people when they trash talk you. =D
3) Tourney reward points. You can get elite armors / weapon skins.
4) Make a build for a class you want to play. or check pvxwiki. And then head to Random Arenas. When you feel good with that build play it in Team Arenas. Then go from there.

ok, so I was looking around and came upon the priest of balthazar guy who is supposed to sell the weapon upgrades. It says on the top of the screen that these upgrades can only be used by PVP-Only characters?? Is it possible to unlock weapons/upgrades for PVE characters?

1) Uh-huh.
2) You can make cash out of it, but Reward Points are only from AT's and the tournament house. Only monthly unless you get a dedicated guild for it. Apart from that, it's the challenge that makes it fun.
3) Same as above, for the reward points bit.
4) Today, it is quite hard to get into it, but there are several guilds that help players to get into it. See: Team Love. (Check Billiard's account, I think it's on his GWG somewhere...)
Answering your most recent question, weapon upgrades can be earned via PvE aswell, but you need to identify them yourself. The weapons are only from reward points though in terms of skins.

Unlock stuff for pve character, no u cant. However, you can buy stuff from players and use that on ur weapons. Also when u ID an item, anything on that item that u havent unlocked becomes unlocked and usable in pvp.
Oh yeah, Z-Keys are a reward per 5k balth faction (instead of using to unlock skills, etc)

When you go on observer mode and see people with cool looking gear, they got it in one of two ways:
1. With Tournament Reward Points, which they used to unlock whatever it is they wanted
2. PvE
As somebody who doesn't really care about PvP, go with option 2. It's really not that hard to put "WTB ______________" in Kamadan district 1.
