Where to start?
Hey guys, I've somewhat gotten back to Guild Wars and have decided to get into PvP. The problem is, I don't know where to start. These past few days I've been in Random Arena and it's God awful to stay there(a lot of beginners). I haven't acquired enough fame to be accepted into R3+ teams in HA. I don't think TA is for me(too many gimmick builds). And I doubt any guild wants someone with no champ points to GvG with them. My question is, where do I begin in terms of building fame and champ points. Also, I have been PvPing for quite a bit so I'm pretty confident in terms of my abilities (micro, listening, etc.)
Thanks for your time guys.

If you want my opinion I suggest you start off in random arenas, than continue into ABing. Yes, agreed theres a lot of newbies in the random arenas but its the arena that really gets you started and into PvP in my opinion.
- I am glad we have a returning member and I wish you look on your further adventures in guild wars

Yup, even though RA/AB seems really dumb but, you could find some decent ones that you can make friends with.

Try to get into gvg as soon as possible. The rank does hardly matter, if you're good you'll get into higher ranked guilds pretty fast.

Thanks for the comments guys, I have been playing for a while so I'm past the RA/AB thing. Hahah. I will take the advice about joining a "decent" GvG guild ASAP. Thanks again for all the feedback.

Competitive Missions is the lowest you can start for PvP. You can see what it feels like to be playing against other people instead of AI, but the transition isn't too big to overwhelm you.
Alliance Battles would come next. Its the same as CM, just a little move up.
Random Arenas would be after. Just to give you a little sense of what it means to be playing in a team.
Hero Battle comes after that. I'm not saying go hard core and try to make it on the list. Just some simple unrated to let you mess around with your heroes and try to learn about team synergy.
After HB, Team Arenas is next. This would be a huge transition. Unlike the other three mentioned before, this place would require you to communicate with your team members really well if you want to win. If you hate all the gimmicks, just run balanced.
After learning to communicate from TA, step it up a notch from 4v4 to 8v8 in Heroes' Ascent. This would still require communication if not more since its 8 people together this time and not 4. Gimmick builds tend not to require too much communication from team members so its not recommended. Balanced is the way to go.
After all that, comes the biggest, Guild vs Guild. This will require everything learned before, knowing what it means to be playing in a team, team synergy, and good communication.

i dun like this misconception that u need r3+ or c1+ to join an ha/gvg guild...
sure u wont join like a top100 guild
but u can still get in a semi-decent guild that still does casual or sometimes daily/weekly ha/gvg without requiring a high rank
but...it does help to have at least glad1 or commander1
or uax
if u dun have at least one of those things, then keep doin ra or hvh until u do
or, u can join a pvx guild
generally i find that pvx guilds have no requirements other than being active
and they still do casual pvp when theres nuff ppl and demand

play some ra or ab to get faction for some meta builds, then find yourself a beginner friendly guild and start gvg'ing (or ha'ing) with them.
Edit: I remember kiSu was made for teaching players, so you can consider joining them.

I think you guys have the wrong impression. I'm not "new" to the PvP genre. I've experienced HA, GvG and the like (well I've ran a few IWAY's back in the day ). But thanks for the feedback anyway!

The game is at a state where new players are not going to be included. To get into a gvg decent guild you at least need some history, probably some champ rank, and a few people who know you. HA seems nonexistant - I'd guess at peak times there are about 6 teams going.
The best suggestion I got is to get good at monk; people are always looking for monks.

I feel that I'm above average in terms of Monks. Also, I agree with your statement. Maybe I should give up .

well, you can still try these guys a try:

great place to start. unfortunately, they'll never pull in any really high level mentors at this state of the game.
