hi i flame, i use caps, etc
always maintain your sheildset=lower energy but higher health good for any situation..
you should have 630 health-40-35 energy this is also your e-denial set if you got a e-denial char sitting on you
40/40=if prot or Woh/infuse+40/40 prot+40/40 heal for gvg
high energy set i run pve monk so i use 20% echant+25 energy+20casting
and if ha id bring sheild sets in your inventory so you can switch before battle if you know what your against
sheild sets that follow BLunt+cold in gvg Crippled+dazed if prot sometimes woh cant draw you so you gota fight it by reducing its time.
If your burning isle or a splittable map and a splittable team build depending on your build you can variate it such as return+dark escape+sheild bash ect...
dont waiste your energy on spells that are useless.
<---r10 ha r4 champ have a nice day!

Pretty sure your acct was made on Oct 2008 and your guild says "Delta Formation". Who r u?
Despite that, it's not bad advice to be fair to We Dont Accept, minus the bit about being liberal about caster sets. That shit gets you killed, I mean just watch me once in a while. Always dead on caster set. >_>
Anyway, the following pertains to GvG.
Powerblock will wreck your 1s spells with high reliability, 3/4's with smaller reliability, and Aegis. Your prot monk needs to be very aware of what their mesmer is up to and mix things up, canceling and not leaning heavily on their slower spells. It's possible to Aegis vs a Powerblock mesmer, but just make sure it's on recast.
It's advantageous for your monks to stand a good distance apart; you don't have to give them the opportunity to knock/swap for a spike, and target-swapping costs their warriors more time. Also, this makes it easy to figure out when a mesmer is casting on you in the field. Obviously, this is in moderation; don't stand outta casting range of people.
Don't always kite backwards, and be wary of when warriors suddenly peel off of you. If you notice that your warriors get spiked out a lot, you're either fighting [rawr] or you have this problem.
Ranged autoattack (spear or wand/staff) guarantees an instant full-stop. Pressing escape or letting go of keymove is laggy. This alone will save you from lots of Bull's Strikes. You don't have to execute a full attack, just start the animation so that its duration catches the impact of the Bull's. You can also apply this to Melandru's Shot, though that's harder to predict.
Typical situations where warriors will Bulls you:
1) On approach
2) After another knock, like Hammerbash or Shock
3) Half second after your current skill finishes casting
4) On ice
Generally speaking, of course. Warriors obviously have the capacity to get crafty and yomi the use of their Bull's Strikes, waiting for you to move if they have good ping, or waiting an extra second to wait out your waiting for them to blow Bulls, etc etc etc.
Anyway, hope that helps.

So how about click to target vs setting your team as numeral keys, anyone try both and have input to give or is it not worth the bother?

I'm a god awful monk, so don't take my advice to heart. Obviously people bind a key to themselves, but I've heard of some that bind keys to other teammates; personally I find this cumbersome and a bit difficult because there are only so many keys.
When I prot I just click to cast, when I WoH I generally (embarassingly enough) use the party bars except when I see obvious damage that my prot monk failed at mitigating.

there is absolutely no reason to bring a 40/40 prot set, even as prot monk. it is much more to your advantage to use a 40HCT/20HSR/20%ench set.
