I'm slightly new to PvP (4 months) and while I've relatively quickly grasped most concepts, I'm having a bunch of trouble with positioning. Unfourtunately, positioning is pretty important and I'm not doing too great. A link to a guide would be great.

What exactly are you having trouble with? Most of it is just common sense and I personally don't remember any guide about positioning being written by anyone, but I may be wrong.

I actually don't know. I currently play BYOB (Much funner than balanced) and whenever I'm fighting with the flag team, I get people QQing at me about positioning. As far as I can tell, I'm doing fine, staying in range of the monks, hiding behind walls to avoid DShot, and kiting away from enemy melee. When I ask the person QQing at me what I'm doing wrong, he's very vague and simply say something along the lines of, "You're just not where you're suppose to be." I generally play mid-line snare and anti-melee. I'm where I can hit melee and spike targets with snares (Yes, you can spike in BYOB), in the range of the monks, and hiding from DShot whenever possible. I know this sounds kind of QQish, but I'm really frustrated that I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Well from what you're saying the only other posibility might be that they actually want you splitting, instead of being at the flag stand during that time. Or behind your own monks. It's all situational though and we still don't know enough about the team build, nor about specific times/occurances throughout the match.

it sounds like u fairly comprehend ur role
mebe the qq'r doesnt? and is jus randomly pissed off?

but i cant really tell too much unless u give more information on wut u r playin exactly
the only thing i can think of as a midline anti-melee is that ur runnin ward against melee?
and ur not placing them in good spots?

@Echoman: Good point. Next time he QQs, I'll ask if he's QQing about splitting or actually positioning. The guide helped a whole bunch. Gave me a new way of looking at it; however, it was more of the same.

@Snaek: We run semi-competitive BYOB, as we are currently teetering on the edge of ladder and off ladder. My first thought was that he didn't understand, but he is quite good at the game (TA, but still, quite good) and generally knows what he's doing. He is a bit testy though (I.E. every match you lose, there's a risk of him ragequitting) and it simply might be a way to blame us losing on the newbie. Also, do people still run Ward? By Snare and anti-melee, I mean Me/E FC Water, Mind Shock, and the newly buffed BSurge.

Like Echoman said, it does seem like he may have wanted you to split instead of being at the stand. Make sure to ask him exactly what he is expecting of you if he complains. If he can't tell you then he probably doesn't know wtf he is doing anyway.

Since you are running a very split heavy build, always make sure that you are being useful where you are. For example, if you are playing a defensive midliner and the other team's frontline left the stand the split, then chances are that you should be following them as you may no longer be useful at the stand. If what you are doing does not seem to be useful or productive, then you'll have to figure what you could do or where you could be to be useful.

not since the nerf
but thats really the only thing that requires extra attention for positioning

and im not sayin hes not good
but jus that he didnt understand the role that u were playing at the time
otherwise he woulda been more specific in the qq rather than being vague

generally, a good player knows exactly when a mistake is made
i certainly kno if i make a slip up or if another person makes a noticeable slip up
in which case the qq will involve talkin bout that specific error

smaller errors r of course harder to notice
but u can still generalise it with more detail than "ur not where ur sposed to be"

so if he cant pinpoint the exact error
imo he doesnt kno wut hes talkin bout

use where your character is standing, and its abilities as leverage

if someone is trying to spike you, you can move away from him to remove the suprise factor and reduce damage taken

if someone on their team is trying to get somewhere, you can put yourself in his way as a threat of 'you'll have to go through me first'

you can force the other team to move around to react to what you are doing across the map, for example:if they know you can kill their guild lord, you are forcing them to make a response/decision as a cause of where you positioned yourself
