Monk tips needed
Hey,I saw some guides and they are all nice, but there are still things I am not sure about for a GvG monk-and that's all about weapon sets.
I have a PvE monk and I miss some weapon sets, and I want get all them right.
sets that I have:
-defensive set (sword +5 E,+30 Hp....shield +30 hp and +10 armor against cold dmg)
-high energy set (I bought it in Maatu, factions)
-low energy set (I am not sure if it is all right: sword -5 E,+30 Hp...shield +30 hp...I am not sure what to use as offhand, what are good mods)
-casting set (they say 40/40 set)...for a WoH monk (I have properly one for protection, like RC monk)
the thing is I don't know what I use for 40/40 set,wand+focus?,wand+shield?
what are all mods on 40/40 sets?
pls write is with words, because I have hard time for guesing what all means.
So,just for a short,I need right mods (all) for a 40/40 set,aka main healing set for a WoH monk
and if you can tell me if my low energy set is right.
That was 1st thing,2nd is:
When I swap sets?
I stay in my defensive set as much as possible, change in healing set while casting,if I get low on energy I swap to high energy and fast back at defensive set because to get faster energy back.
And what about low energy? I heard it's not needed in this time of GvG,some ppl use instead main prot set (staff with 2X 20% HCT of prot spells+ench last 20% longer mod right?)
Did I got it right?
3rd thing:
It's about WoH monk build.
I use this skills atm: patient spirit,guardian,dismiss condition,WoH,infuse health,prot spirit,holy veil,optional
optional like : hex breaker, return, disciplined stance.
Do I need infuse health,is it any good?
It's true it saves life, but it cost so much.
If not using it,then what I should use instead it?
Dark Escape+Return
Or Spotless Mind+optional?
Or maybe Signet of Rejuvenation (saving energy for a free heal)
4th thing:
It's about upkeep monitor.
I have a hard time to get rid warrior from hex using holy veil.
I mean,I need to click on him (or name),press number 7 for casting holy veil on him, then with mouse I need to get to icon (it's up my skill monitor,on right side) and then twice fast click on holy veil icon to cancel it so I can get warrior rid of hex.
I am very slow with it....any tips so it can become faster and easier?
5th thing:
When to use WoH and when to use Patient Spirit?
I mean, why not just always use WoH,it's 5 energy as PS,3 sec needed so I can use it again ,as PS is. Then it's 3/4 sec activation time which is slower then PS just 1/4 sec,but then again,WoH heals immediatly, and PS after 2 sec.
So,why to use PS over WoH in battle?
6th thing:
do you maybe have healing set I can buy from you? ^^
If not, where I can buy it?
And,it would be nice if someone of you have some shield inscrp like +10 armor against X (I need pierce, blunt, fire, slash etc. I have only vs cold)
And yes, about shields, what are the most source of dmg coming from?
I know what type of dmg is when Ele casts spells,or when I see melee is using conjure weapon...but how I can know if assassin is using pierce dmg,or ebon dmg?
Thanks for everyone who will help me become better as monk

You need, for monking, the following items (optimally, and my opinion, but still):
1) Healing Wand/Focus set with 40/40, meaning Halves Skill Recharge of Healing Prayers Spells (20% Chance) and Halves Casting Time of Healing Prayers Spells (20% Chance) on both your Wand and your Focus.
2) Protection Prayers Staff with 40/20/20, meaning Halves Skill Recharge of Spells (20% Chance), two Halves Casting Time of Protection Prayers Spells (20% Chance), and Enchantments last 20% Longer.
3) High Energy Wand/Focus Set for either Healing Prayers or Protection Prayers, I recommend the latter (opinions on this, anyone?), with +15 Energy, -1 Energy Regeneration on both Wand and Focus, and Halves Skill Recharge of <Whatever> Spells (20% Chance) on Wand and Halves Casting Time of <Whatever> Spells (20% Chance).
4) High Energy Defensive Spear with +5 Energy, +30 Health.
5) Low Energy Defensive Spear with +15% Damage, -5 Energy, +30 Health.
6) Defensive Shields with +10 Armor versus <Damage Type> and +30 Health, for each Damage Type. The most commonly used (that I can think of) are Slashing (vs. balanced) and Piercing (vs. R-Spike), but have all of them.
Now, the sets you are going to use most commonly (HB, RC, and so on) are the following:
Set 1) Either Healing Set (1) for Healing or Protection Staff (2) for Protection.
Set 2) High Energy Set (3).
Set 3) Low Energy Set, Low Energy Spear (5) and Shield.
Set 4) Defensive Set, High Energy Spear (4) and Shield.
At some times (such as when going WoH hybrid) you might choose to combine the Low Energy set and Defensive set to be able to bring both your Healing set and your Prot staff:
Set 1) Healing Set.
Set 2) Protection Staff.
Set 3) High Energy Set.
Set 4) Defensive/Low Energy Set.
That's all I can think of.
P.S.
I'm a dedicated PvE player, and I rarely play PvP at all, in any form.
D.S.

I like to stay on my low set as long as possible, which is a -5 energy +30hp Spear and a Q7/8 +30hp tactics shield with +10 armor vs X

My first piece of advice would be to get multiple shields with +30 hp and +10 Armor Level vs all types of damage you can get (Piercing, Fire, Blunt, Cold, etc...) as well as two shields that have Reduced Cripple Duration, and Reduced Dazed Duration inscriptions.
Your weapon sets should be as follows:
1) Normal Defensive Set [Spear with +5e/30hp & All the shields listed above]
2) Low Energy Set [Spear with -5e/30hp & an offhand (that you fail to meet the requirement for) with a -5 energy inscription]
3) 40/40 Set [Wand/Offhand with 20% Half Skill Recharge/Casting time on both, for whatever attribute you're specced into]
4) 40/20/20 Prot Set [Useful for casting guardian & other skills in, it should be a staff that has 40% HCT and 20% HSR with a 20% Enchanting mod]
Note that the defensive set can be changed to a spear with a -5 energy inscription instead of a +5 energy inscription, because you always want to cast on your 40/40 set! This also allows you to swap out your Low Energy Set for a High Energy Set, in which you have a wand and offhand with 15^-1 energy inscription, allowing you to have a maximum energy of about 70 or higher. DO NOT STAY ON THIS SET!
Now for your build;
[patient spirit][guardian][dismiss condition][Word of Healing][infuse health][protective spirit][Holy veil][optional]
1) Monks should not carry resurrection skills in PvP, so hopefully you don't have one there.
2) Infuse Health is unnecessary in all forms of PvP in which you aren't up facing incredibly clean, fast spikes [HA, GvG] I would replace it with something more useful, such as [Vigorous Spirit] or [Signet of Rejuvenation]
3) Protective Spirit [Protective spirit] is also unnecessary in most forms of PvP, as generally [Shield of Absorption] [Spirit Bond] or [Mending Touch] will do a much better job at preventing damage.
4) It's also totally up to you if you want to take out [Dismiss condition] for Draw Conditions, and Protective Spirit for Mending Touch. This allows you to totally clear your frontline of dangerous or impeding conditions (such as cripple, blind, or deep wound at low health). This is especially important if they are at low health with deep wound, or their conditions are covered. It is also a very fast removal, with a very fast recharge time. Now obviously you won't draw Deep wound off of a party member with alot of HP, while you're under pressure. But being able to draw of things like Burning when under barrage of an SF ele, or Cripple & Poison from a cripshot ranger is an amazing advantage, especially if you can just 'mending touch' away those conditions and recieve a decent heal in the process.
5) Now about [Holy Veil] Holy Veil, you should be pre-casting it on yourself to prevent being hit by Shame or Diversion at a crucial time when you need to use WoH. It also slows down enemies' hex casting speed, and thus, is usually beneficial to maintain on your front-line team mates. To remove it fast , casting and removing, you can always put the up-keep monitor right beside your skill slot for holy veil, allowing you to dismiss it with ease.
6) [Patient Spirit] Patient Spirit Vs. [Word of Healing] WoH
Now since Word of Healing will heal more than patient spirit at all times, it is usually beneficial to not use patient spirit at all. The only times you should be using patient spirit are:
When you have more than 50% health, and the decreased casting time allows you to escape more damage in the 1/2 second extra that WoH would cast in.
When WoH is disabled due to skills like [Diversion] or [Distracting Shot].
When you are being trained (constantly targeted and 100% focused on by a person) by someone with interrupts or knockdowns, such as an Interrupt Ranger or Hammer Warrior.
7) If you're doing arena play, it is almost always more beneficial to take some sort of fast-recharging, spike prevention stances or skills, as opposed to taking something like [Hex Breaker], which can just be taken off by something as mundane as [Wastrel's Worry]. Some of these skills could include [Shield Bash], [Disciplined Stance], [Natural Stride], [Dark Escape], [Smoke Powder Defense] or [Bonetti's Defense]. These skills are especially helpful because they can be activated instantly, and whilst knocked down.
8) <-- Face lol
Sadly, I don't have any sets that you could buy off of me, as they're already in use. The most critical shield sets that I would suggest you get would be Pierce (Daggers, Bows, Spears) Slash (Swords, Axes, 100+ damage scythe attacks) Lightning (Lots of air spikers) and Reduced Cripple. Be on the lookout for enemies using conjure skills, and swap your shields to match the most aggressive enemies' damage type.
Hope I helped ^^

I don't agree with always using WoH. Always use Patient unless you have to use WoH. It's less of a problem if Patient gets diverted and it's impossible to reliably dshot it.
You have to use WoH when:
- A target is below 50% and it's possible for that target to take a lot of damage before you could be able to heal it up otherwise.
- To catch easy-to-catch spikes.
- When you are under pressure and should use both heals to keep up your team.

yea you get more bang for your buck out of word of healing but the problem about over using it is that it may not be recharged in a moment when you REALLY need it, and its possible to get diversion/dshotted. just weigh the options and its ok

[build prof=monk/any healin=12+1+1 protec=10+1 divin=8+1][patient spirit][word of healing][dismiss condition][Guardian][optional][optional][optional][holy veil][/build]
- Survivor's Armor.
- 40/40 Healing Prayers Set.
- 40/20/20% Enchanting Protection Staff.
- Defensive Set (Spear/Shield, health mods, armor vs. damage types and condition reduction times)
- High Energy Set. (30/-2)
- Use Word of Healing as your primary healing skill, it provides a very large boost of health. This can also be used to follow up Infuse Health if you brought it.
- Use Patient Spirit as a source of inexpensive healing.
- Use Dismiss Condition and Holy Veil to remove hexes and conditions as they come.
- Pre-Veil appropriate people.
- Cheap protection spells - [[Shield of Absorption], [[Shielding Hands], or [[Aura of Stability].
- [[Aegis] for large-scale prot in GvG.
- [[Infuse Health] or [[Protective Spirit] to stop spikes in GvG and HA.
- Energy management skills - [[Channeling] (HA), [[Glyph of Lesser Energy] (GvG), [[Signet of Rejuvenation], [[Divine Spirit].
- Self-defensive or mobility skills - [[Return], [[Dark Escape], [[Dash], [[Shield Bash], [[Balanced Stance], [[Disciplined Stance], [[Soldier's Defense], [[Sprint], [[Mantra of Concentration].
- Different hex removal spells - [[Cure Hex] or [[Spotless Mind].
- Different condition removal spells - [[Draw Conditions], [[Mend Condition], [[Mending Touch].
- [[Vigorous Spirit] for the correct TA teams.
- [[Healing Seed] for HA.
- Replace [[Patient Spirit] with [[Reversal of Fortune] for a much less consistent (but sometimes quicker) heal that can also serve as small, short-duration pre-prot.

I agree with ac1inferno completely other than dropping patient spirit for RoF, RoF on a WoH monk doesnt help that much as its maybe a maximum of 50, while patient spirit ends with typically 114. only reason i feel this way is because the 50 on the RoF is preventing 1 auto attack from a frontliner, while patient spirit CAN heal an executioner's strike, DEFINATELY NOT saying u should use this to stop a spike but its generally more healing for same energy and can heal back 2 auto attacks from a frontline
