Well... people actually trying to win on a regular basis usually end up becoming pretty powerful players. Last time I checked it's bad to have those on the opposing team.
If you want to win, that is.

if you ok with winning 50% of the time (because opposing teams sucked more than you did) - ya, AB is indeed not a real PvP.
Strike your e-peen less please.
O Mika Nakashima O
speaking of strategies... for dedicated AB guild you guys playing to soft and defensive - I've beaten your teams one too many times... Learn to be more aggressive. Guild groups in AB define who dominates the map and whos whining about mobs, and you aint doing that.
Speaking of r4 and learing about AB... I still see plenty of high rankers that truly think AB is all about capping and avoiding mobs. And then they fail miserably and whine in outpost how everyone around sucks.

Yeah, capping would be the silly thing to do in AB. Just stand around, whilst the other side caps...

Angel READ THE THREAD. There are times and places when it's completely justified - highly advised even - to stand your ground and fight (most often confronting some guys waiting for your team to leave your shrine and cap it right after you've gone)
Avoiding mobs = hellyeah tho. Solo targets are soooo juicy.

It's better to capture shrines than fight generally, especially when the opposing team starts mobbing in large numbers, but defending specific shrines, bottlenecking players into their base, snaring opposing shrine cappers, etc can be effective tactics at the right times dependant on which map you are on and your teams positioning and strategy.

Rob speaks the complete truth here!
Many a time my group has been forced to kick our "high-ranked" pug because the person has been stuck on CCM (complete-capping-mode) since he started AB.

No shit Sherlock!? I wasn't suggesting for one minute RUN AWAY FROM THE OPPOSITION TEAM AT AL COSTS...RUN FOR THE HILLS, NEVER FIGHT! I was merely pointing out that you need to move swiftly around the maps, capping shrines and holding them as fast as possible. Of course you need to push back the enemies advances at certain shrines, most notably the resurrection shrine. You'd be an idiot to even think not.
If you feel that fighting mobs is more important than swift capping, then so be it. I know who not to have on my side in the future eh. lol.
Hopefully you're kurzick, so yeah follow your instructions mate.

Fighting mobs means you're brave and mighty. Especially when you kill them and stall time for the other two groups. I always battle lion mobs, because I'm brave and mighty.

Rank doesn't mean anything when you can gain faction quite easily from various methods of fast faction farming.

what always works for me (if puging) is either take a big domage ele build and nuke the shrines / minion master to help my team, take somthing that can survive on its own and hinder the other teams capping abilites ( ranger crip shot).
or another thing that works, RUN AROUND LKIE CRAZYZ !!1!!one

I said that before, and I repeat that for you - capping doesn't win AB... holding the shrines does. And the best way to hold shrines is to break opposing teams.
It all goes back to the fact that AB is PvP, and those who understand that - win alot... and even when they lose - they still have plenty of fun.

I love you <3. lol! If only other people had this mentality outside such a select few...I am a battle lion and if I die that means you were too cowardish to support me properly in a battle of epic proportions! Capping is boring and I earn an average of 1k balth faction per game...10 balth faction per kill...3 points per kill...1000/10=100x3=300...that's over half the points of the game...yarly there's something seriously wrong when i play @_@?

Thanks. All the three strategies work. It should depend on the reading of the situation
Unreal Havoc
Yes and when you can trade factions to materials. But it could be a good indication of how much faction that player has donated to guilds. So you could estimate at what rate that player might donate to current/new guild. That is useful for alliances with town
Snow Bunny
A bit off-topic

Yeah

Enemies could choose to avoid your defense and go to another place

That's an interesting topic that I've been working on. I still need more time to be able to comment on it

Thanks
I'll throw a new question to all at this point: How often you help your allies?
----------------------------------------
And,
Kurzick AB-specialized guild [Mika] is recruiting FF/ABers. Currently 2.5M factions, ~90 members, in [CLAN] alliance. PM "O Mika Nakashima O" or other Mikans for more details. Welcome to visit us @ http://mikanakashima.gamerdna.com & http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild:Mika_Nakashima

I don't.
Most AB players are quite bad and this is fact.
I appreciate AB for its casual atmosphere, but relieving pressure off of a Heal monk with a bar full of 10e powerheals isn't going to do anything.
Our time would be better spent rspiking the solo-capper ele.

Well, I used AB's a a while ago to train for NPC healing on my monk.
So I turned the HuD display off and healed only by field watching and memorized key binds ... was good fun although a bit though at the start for my team
Since then I automatically heal or prot up trained targets if we pass another group or are mobbed together, usually I can spare that bit of energy.
Or I roll my paragon just for being able to buff a HUGE mob of Kurzicks
Does that answer your question?
