Default Pew pew help help?

Soooo I'm ditching monk to start up ranger and need help ^___^

Ok first is pressure wise. I don't spread poison too much :S I always try and focus on interrupting (I run cripshot) and I know I should spread more poison but I fear if I do I won't get the interrupts resulting in being raged at Q.Q input?

I know how to movement control but another thing is how often should I cripshot the enemy frontline o.O

Finally about interrupting. I can now twitch 1 second casts like warding buttt anything beyond that is beyond me. I might get better and soon learn to do those or is there a better way? I know if their under a lot of pressure to count down to dshot but normally they dont spam on recharge. I was told to watch the movement since you start casting before the bar goes off or something, input?

posion spread is just tabbing imo.. tab spacebar tab spacebar and i have key buttons for previous and next target
when you interupted something important. just go to poison spreading. also try to get somewhat feeling for your poison, longer than 10 sec, go back to poison spreading.

also advice on interupting

-interface, make skillcasting wider so you see it better coming
-also try to predict. like when b-surge was used in gvg, pre nerf. it is 3/4 cast time. it can be interupted but my laptop is old and low fps so i just timed the recharge time with the guild timer and than somewhat predict it.
-last but not least: practise makes perfect.

Okey about the Stop movement before cast.. Well i have tried it some times but i just find it easier to snare stuff, move closer and JUST watch the skillbar, which is like 3x Big.

Also learning staffs/chants animation etc is quite whenever i see the usual GoLE Staff animation i ALWAYS put one eye on the monk. This comes again on awareness of the screen knowing whatever Animation their staff has and know what they will cast is nice to know.


About the Poison spread and trying to interrupt is a pain in the ass:P Had bit of the same problem until i started to run a Turret Build, which doesnt have apply poison:P
Anyways just Tabspace, and keep an eye on the long time casts now since you wont get any short time cast when your spreading poison. Also it helps great if you interrupt the opponents Apply Poison!

Also if your running Melandrus shot which has a 8sec(dont flame if wrong:P) recharge. I usually just use it on recharge on the frontline also using it to spread poison and on the target the Frontline is chasing! PZ: Using a 33% Cripple and using a Melandrus Shot/Cripshot on the Runner when he gets out is quite nice since the RC wont prob reach to clean him

Little discussion on the Turret Build though..

Anyways play RA loads tbh.. This makes your interrupting easier and overview. When you feel your getting try bigger grounds such as GvG etc where it is 8people (4actually if u take away frontline and Runner + ranger:P) Then try and do an overall interrupt.

Always be aware of your battlefield is one of the most important things i think a Ranger should have. Many times i've been chasing an enemy teams split or went for an lonely ganking war and my team doesnt even know wtf i am going that way :P - So keep eyes on the battlefield for ganks and such since you are the one probably who is gonna stop them.(Pz get a Biiiig compass^^)

Also a little thing Melandru Shot is preferd over Crippshot now. If you want more Ranger builds go to Pvxwiki.com - and if you wanna be better just Play ranger much and observe

Pz: a Goal for you should be to get Blinding Flash or Word of Healing (3/4) cast on camps, helps immensly by Dshoting a WoH during hardcore pressure!

It's better to tab around than to keep focusing on one person or the person will know you are trying to interrupt him or her and watch what skills he or she is using.

haha.. about 2 months ago everyone would have gladly bent over and taken it from Cripshot they loved it so much - saying cripshot was crap would have got you lynched. Now, just cus melandrus is better, it deserves the mantle "crapshit"?

It's been shit ever since it got changed to 2r, and it was only good before because there was no pin down and melandru's shot.

Well firstly, don't run cripshot. Melandru's Shot, Burning Arrow and Incendiary Arrows and Magebane shot (to a lesser extent) are the best options right now. If there is/are priority interupts you need to focus on, then you need to keep an eye on that character while spreading poison and then shift click on the character to interupt. Or if you are close enough you can c + tab. Bear in mind you should only do this once you know the key skill you are focusing on is recharged. This isn't to say you have to count down the recharge exactly but you should have a vague idea of its recharge. Make sure you don't just 'camp' your target because this is bad play. And its even worse when you make it obvious you're camping a particular target (usually by standing close to a target and not firing arrows) because decent players will fake your interupts, energy permitting.

You should be able to interupt 3/4 casts if you're close to your target. In real game situations, its important you don't get tunnel vision by focusing too heavily on interupting 3/4 second casts (especially if you're not that great at interupting in the first place).

Never fire dshot as a purely predictive interupt based on counting the recharge of a skill. Ideally, when you use savage shot predictively you want your target to not be poisoned for faster poison spreading. When it comes to interupting based on movement, it can sometimes be effective to fire an interupt when a target runs towards your midline/backline and suddenly stops. You would be assuming your target is about to cast something because they just reached casting range.

Imo though Mel shot is as reliable as a bullstrike and even if you get it off if removed you have to wait longer to get applied again which benefits you less from attempting flag pushes, costs you a lot more if dodged, and if blocked wtf are you running it for anyway?

Just learning with this, will probably switch to burning arrow like everyone else when I get timing and such down. But Cripshot wasn't the issue Q.Q

Bull's Strike isn't unreliable (and neither is Mel Shot) as long as you don't play it badly. As long as you aren't predictable (stuff like using it as soon as you get in range, on recharge) you should be able to hit it efficiently.

As far as I'm concerned Mel Shot can't be compared to Bull's in terms of reliability because its such a different skill. For starters, you're able to use it at a range which means its less likely to be avoided and it has a quicker activation time so you can use it on reflex rather than predicting movement.

Its a good skill for a number of reasons though and definitely better. Sorry to rant though even after you said it wasn't the issue.

Agreed, making your cripple blockable might be good if only their flagger wasn't proted going in and such. But who cares about that anymore it's all about 3 2 1 and who can outdamage the smiteway xD and no one ever watches whos on them to cast or space to stop moving, naw that'd be silly. But yea with the modern day frenzyfest I guess I'll find it's place in another meta if ever at all again.
