PvP hates me
This is my weekly PvP complaint thread.
I have no fame and if I want to play in TA or HA, people require certain builds that I can't have because I don't have EoTN. If I monk, for example, they require I bring Patient Spirit.
I need some help before I quit this game for good.
I feel like I'm cursed when it comes to character selection. Example: I'll create a melee shutdown build in hopes of facing warriors/dervishes/assassins. The round starts and I tab through the other team and it's 3-4 casters.
So I lose that round, exit and choose a different character. Example: I'll create a energy denial/interrupt build in hopes of facing casters. Next round starts and it's 3-4 melee builds and I'm useless.
I get frustrated and make some sort of hybrid. Turns out hybrids suck.
Basically, 9 times out of 10 I'll create X build and the anti-X team will be my first opponent.
I feel like I'm pretty good at PvP though. I've managed to get to almost G2 in a short period of time by going on long winning streaks that extend into TA.
Can anyone suggest something that I can do or some sort of build that seems to work against everyone? I got sick of the blood build I was using and I won't resort to being another Palm Strike/knockdown assassin like the other 99% of the RA population.
Oh, last but not least, I will not join a guild. I've had too many horrible experiences w/ them. I'll get kicked out for not having EoTN or a Mic, or I'll get kicked out because I didn't help X player do an hour long mission.
Any help is appreciated.
Any flaming posts will be ignored, so save your bre...typing.

Here, i'll solve your problems with an abbreviation and a word: RA Sucks.
Just try Alliance Battles with some of the builds on pvxwiki.com if you have Factions, as those are a lot more fun IMO and rake in the faction like there's no tomorrow.
It's mildly annoying to see someone who wants to PvP, complain about RA, which is crap in the first place, and then say "I will not join a guild". Any decent PvP experience is best with a guild, as there are people willing to help you with your "hybrid" builds that you create and will help you test them out in places like the guild hall.
There you go, PM me if you do actually need a guild, I can think of a few in my alliance that are new and need members. (No mic required, and as long as you're not an asshole, they're really nice people)

Don't worry about it, we all have our down day. Some days I'll go through RA without a win haha. Now I know I don't suck but it's just who you get matched up with and who you fight against. And if you ever change you mind, you can join the guild I'm in. We mostly pvp most of the time, FA,JQ etc. And trust me I'll make sure you won't get kicked for a stupid reason like that. Let me know what you think.

I decided to read through your post, since most of the time it's easy to correct someone's mistakes. Anyway;
1) Stick with a build for more than 1 round. Just because there is a counter once, doesn't mean it will be every time.
2) Hybrids only suck if you make them with the atts too stretched. Don't spec into more than 4.
3) Run a VoR Mes with Empathy, Backfire and Wastrels Worry (extras are up to you). It'll shut down everything.
And last but not least;
4) Join a guild. I don't care if you've had a bad experience, you'll never do ANYTHING good in PvP without one.

Pick a build you like and play Roulette... proverbially. Never, ever, ever change hands if the first team you face is a perfect counter to your build. Statistically speaking, it means you're going to face someone next time that you completely negate.
I suggest starting with AB, where people are far less elitist and grouping is far easier. Also, if you're getting frustrated by people saying things to you/about you while playing, turn off local chat and set your status to Do Not Disturb or Offline to prevent douchebags from messaging you with their idiocy.
Play to enjoy it and remove the sources of aggravation.

Read my post, there are quite a few hybrids that counter (almost) everything (some exceptions because people run stupid builds that make no sense).

well it sounds like you just have had some bad luck in both guilds and pvp. one of thie things the game boasts and has boasted since the start is that there in no build to end all builds, nothing that beats everything. in pvp you dont need to create a class focused to counter another class though, you can always go for high dmg or healing or something.
also, if you dont want to buy EotN youcan just buy the PvP pack for like $5 and get all the skills there.

actually the law of large numbers say otherwise. statistics have no memory of the last game and it is still completely random (learned that in AP Stat class, yes im proud of my self and i do want a cookie)

You will get acustomed to being beat. All builds can't do everything. If they could... you wouldn't be having this problem.
1. Get in a guild.
2. Find a class you like
3. Pvxwiki or Make builds (get them from guildies to)
4.?????
5. PROFIT!!!

Yeah I've had same problems, RA sucks =P Every time I get pwned by someone I try build similar to that persons', then get pwned again xD
Because GW is a free to play per month game, it attracts all types of unsavory or low life forms of people. Turn off ALL chats and put Do Not Disturb as your status RA

If you really enjoy RA and would like to continue trying, there are definitely ways to improve what you are doing. Most of the advice that has been posted (especially Fenix's) has been great. The comments that you "must" be in a guild to be good or enjoy PvP don't really apply to RA, although you will probably be miserable trying to do TA or HA without one.
In any case, hybrid builds can work effectively. Again, Fenix's [[Vision's of Regret] build is a good start, it's somewhat simple to play and is very effective. In my experiences however, the best thing you can do is come up with a fun gimmick that is hard to figure out or counter on short notice. I've had a good deal of fun lately running the following Elementalist build:
[build prof=E/Mo energystorage=12+1+1 protection=12][Immolate][Glowing Gaze][Steam][Grasping Earth][Aura of Restoration][Master of Magic][Life Bond][Resurrection Signet][/build]
No one seems to expect [[Life Bond], as most experienced players who recognize what it looks like don't play RA. At the beginning of the match, you simply cast LB on the other three party members, and follow it up by casting [[Master of Magic]. Use [[Aura of Restoration] to make sure that MoM is covered at all times, since without it the build falls apart. Use [[Immolate] with [[Steam] for blinding melee attackers (or finishing foes) and [[Glowing Gaze] for regaining energy. Use [[Grasping Earth] to deter melee attackers further and help whoever they are attacking kite out of the way. Matches in which the Bonds were stripped were very rare the last days I played this, and since everyone knows E/Mo's are nubcakes, most enemy players seemed to leave me alone and go for more priority targets, like Monks and Restoration Rits (who love you to death when they see LB...)
Just remember that when you make a hybrid build, that the added utility makes up for what is lost by spacing out attribute points. In my above build, I didn't come close to doing the same amount of damage that most good Ele builds are capable of, however, I was able to halve the non-degen damage to 3/4 of the team, as well as make enemy melee miserable by keeping them blinded and snared. If your build doesn't work at first, keep trying! Maybe the cause is a bad set of skills, or maybe you just need more practice at it. In any case, you should commit a good 5-10 matches with any build before deciding whether it is effective or not.

Since he got beaten by a complete counter build, those players are now playing a match and won't get paired with him again. So even though you'd typically be right, you're wrong.
I'd recommend heading to HA and running fame farming builds if you're trying to break into PvP. There are lots of non-EotN builds and substitutions you can make to get around problems skills. TA is dead, RA won't help you progress in the community, HB is it's own game, and HA/GvG are extremely difficult to get into. EotN isn't necessary at all.

You know. If you are frustrated with PVP atm. One possibility is to find some money to buy Eye of the North for your account. If you don't have a job you could maybe wash a few cars, mow some lawns. If you live in an area without an availability to wash cars, or you live in a concrete jungle, you could always find some things you don't want and try to pawn them off or have a garage sale (unless of course you don't have a garage). All in all it probably wouldn't be TOO difficult to get enough money to buy EN, but i could be wrong. Anyways...
If you were to get EN, you could A) take a break from pvp and have some fun with the EN storyline and the fun rewards you can get through this expansion and B) once you have had your fun with the expansion, you can then go back to pvp with a whole new handful of useful skills.
Last but not least. If you are getting kicked out of guilds for not having teamspeak or EotN, then you are probably trying to join Rebel Rising (no offense to [rawr]) or some guild who really is just lame. Guilds like KISS, or SICK, or any large scale guilds that are active and the members communicate well with each other could be a helpful environment for you. Sure there might not be as skilled members flooding the rosters, but you will find plenty able people to go pvp with you and not treat you like you have been treated of late.
A day may come when the courage of Akeido fails, when he forsakes his skill and breaks all bonds to guildwars...
But it is not this day.
