PVP Build Help.
Hello I am really new to Guild Wars and I have been trying to test out new builds but I am having trouble due to not having all the skills unlocked yet. So I pick and choose randomly depending on my build.
I have heard over and over again it depends on what you like, blah blah. What I am asking is if you had to choose between these templates, which one would you consider the most effective in Arena PVP and why. I have done lots of research, but I don't know if the builds I find from 2005 are still viable today. Anyways these are some builds that were given to me in game from various peoples accounts.
My current template that I have not finished on getting all the skills is this, but I am having doubts on it after playing but maybe it will be better when I get the rest of the skills
1.
Marksmanship 12, Expertise 10. Beast Mastery 7, Smiting Prayers 7
Quickshot, Read The Wind, Tiger's Fury, Favourable Winds, Judge's Insight
Pin Down, Antidote Signet, Resurrection Signet
The ones I came across in game....
2.
Ranger/Warrior
Wilderness Survival 2, Expertise 8, Beast Mastery 10, Axe Master 12
Dismember, Axe Rake, Rampage as one, lightening reflexes, predatory bond, comfort animal, charm animal, RES
3.
Ranger/Monk
Marksmanship 8, Wilderness Survival 10, expertise 12
Distrupting Shot, Savage Shot, Distracting Shot, Magebane Shot, Apply Poison, Troll Unguent, Natural Stride, RES
4.
Ranker/Monk
Protective Prayers 2, Wilderness Survival 8, Marksmanship 10, Expertise 12
Melandru Shot, Distracting Shot, Savage Shot, Natural Stride, Apply Poison, Troll Unguent, Mending Touch, RES
5.
Ranger/Monk
Marksmanship 10, Wilderness survival 10, expertise 11
Burning Arrow, Distracting Shot, Savage Shot, Natural Stride, Apply Poison, Troll Unguent, Mending Touch, RES
Any help would be appreciated. Just an extra push in the right direction is all I need. Thank you!

To OP:
3-5 are the best builds, the first two are horrible because they do pretty terrible damage or just don't have that much synergy. Which one of 3, 4, or 5 you take depends if you want to do more shutdown, more snaring, or more damage.

How do I observe people? Can I view their stats and skills?
I have ran into a new problem, I was unaware that you are forced to buy all the new expansions to get the new skills for the original classes. I think that is really dumb and I hate how you are tricked into buying expansions in order to compete with new classes. Anyways, I can't use mending touch, which is the key to all the ranger builds it seems. I am beginning to think that Rangers are just garbage altogether and you have to be really good and have expansions to compete. I am fairly new to the game, I played way back in the day and just getting back to it. To me, I find that assassins, rituals, warriors, and monks can run around doing whatever the eff they want. I don't find it balance at all, but then again what do I know. Anyways I would really appreciate it if you guys can recommend a build for me (a new guy) who wants to compete in pvp. I do not like Warriors at all I never been a fan of them in any game. I don't like chasing around people using and doing large amount of damage. I find it boring and think it takes the least amount of skill in the game. I have looked up and down on the wiki site and there is far to many for a new person to know what to do. I have done tons of google's and the best advice I see is build what you want there is no best class. I am sure there is a better way to distribute your points and take the full advantage of your class and goal of your class. I find that advice obsolete and not helpful at all.
I don't really want a "well do you want a drainer, a infector, raper, pwner, spiker, or summoner." What I want is a great solid PvP build for a new person that you RECOMMEND and find fun. My play style is adaptable to whatever, just throw a couple builds out there and I'll go from there. I learn very fast and willing to take on the complicated builds. Keep in mind I have very minimum skills (remember I only have the original game) unlocked and if I do the build, I would like to stick with it so I can unlock them all. But its hard to do when I don't know whats solid. Thanks.
I beat the game years ago, but do you find its easier to unlock skills playing the single player. Or just unlocking them in the Pvp only mode. I hate grinding and doing missions and rather just PvP all day. So far my revist to this game hasn't been really fun, hopefully someone can help me see the light.
EDIT: Wow the more I look the more I feel how pointless it is to play this game without the expansions. All the new skills are extremely good and I don't see how its possible to do much with the limited skills offered in the original.

yes, it is very true, sadly. without all of the expansions/campaigns you are, i'm very sorry to say, shit out of luck. you are missing a LOT of content, and, that is exactly how aNet wants it. they want your money for better content, simple as that. /sigh

You can buy the PvP Access Kit for $10 and add it to your account to have access to all of the other skills from other campaigns in pvp, I do believe. Just it would only be for pvp and pvp characters and not for pve at all.
Also in terms of a solid allaround build for RA and TA for a ranger, run either the Mels Shot template that you listed or the Magebane template that you listed. Except for the magebane one, take out disrupting shot and savage shot, and put in distracting shot and hunter's shot. S:
For the time being also, instead of bringing mending touch, you can put in remove hex instead. It generally works just as well a lot of times for RA and TA because there are both condis and hexes all over the place there.

at the first bolded point: oh shit a company wants your money and designed the game to get more than 50 dollars out of you wtf??? it's like they need money to stay in business or something goddamn.
at the second bolded point: yeah, you have to be good and own the whole game to be competitive. go figure.

There are MANY games that don't force you to pay for upgrades and still give you access to the new updates that work for your version. It's a trick, you buy the first one and you have to constantly buy the new expansions that they come out with in order to not get your ass kicked. Don't be a smart ass, whats the point in posting your retarded comments. You should not have to buy all the expansions to compete in PvP. The expansions should do just that, expand the game not force you to buy new skills to continue. Might as well drop the expansion title and make it a whole new game adding new classes + the original because the original is borderline worthless now and it shouldn't be like that. MANY games allow you stay with your original version and not effect you in-game when expansions come out. You shouldn't have access to the new classes but you should have access to the new skills considering you "bought the original classes and their skills". A $25 game is slowly turning into a $80 game and it shouldn't be like that. And you are a moron for your post and your lame obvious statement. Of course they need money, plenty of other businesses don't offer such a shitty trick deal and are doing just fine. Think beyond things moron.
Anyways, I am not limited to just a Ranger build. I guess I didn't make that clear that I am open to all builds not just ranger. In fact, I think I prefer a solid build that does not involve being a ranger. Some more all around builds would be great! Thanks a lot for the people who post helpful information.
If the PvP pack offers me all the skills for PvP then I guess I'll fork out $10 for it. Thanks for that information.

Byob, it's not a trick cause every since the begining they said there would be expansions... also, you can still be competative with only prophecies cause as the first campaign it has a great variaty of skills for all core classes. no you won't be able to run all the gimmicky builds in PvP nowadays but you can still remain very competative.
also, since you're talking about Rangers, all those builds with [mending touch] are pretty old, ever since [antidote signet] got buffed it's the better choice, and it's a prophecies skill.

False.
Builds with [[antidote signet] work better in 1v1 and perhaps random arena situations. Builds with [[mending touch] are just far superior in occassions where you will have teammate with you, for example in split situation in GvG. In these cases you can use [[mending touch] to remove crucial conditions, like: deepwound, dazed, cripple, blindness or weakness (depends from the character you are splitting with ofc).

[[mending touch] > [[antidote signet].
Its a reliable, practically free condition removal that - even at spec 3 - heals for an ok amount. Antidote signet is kinda contitional, although it does allow for another secondary.
Anyway, thats not for this thread, the point is moot as the OP doesnt have NF. Antidote signet is a nice replacement.
Which expansions DO you have?
This is what I would use (im assuming the only one you dont have is NF for the moment.):
[Melandru's Shot][Distracting Shot][Savage Shot][Hunter's Shot][Apply Poison][Lightning Reflexes][Antidote Signet][Flesh of My Flesh]

[antidote signet] is not really conditional. firstly it removes any condition, and if you have blindness(main reason to use condition removal on a Ranger anyway), Disease and Weakness it will remove all 3! it's also free(signet) and only has 4 recharge as opposed to [mending touch]'s 6... yes it's a bit easier to interrupt, 1 sec>3/4 sec but still it's worth it...
not to mention that the Op said those builds are unavailable to him due to him not having Nightfall, so I showed him they are still available, and even better...

Sigh... Expertise > All, IMO.
[Frenzy][Hunter's Shot][Savage Shot][Distracting Shot][Troll Unguent][Escape][Antidote Signet][Resurrection Signet]
Now pick a skill you don't want and sub [Apply Poison] or [Read the Wind] in, probably Apply.

Thanks for your replies, from what I see so far the Mesmer and Necro build posted seem to have my interest. From what I noticed Elementalist build with Aura of Restoration seems pretty cheap. Plus, when I first started this game I used one and some reason it doesn't seem appealing. But I will definitely check out the Mesmer or Necro build after doing a bit of research into those skills. I've decided that maybe the ranger is a little underpowered and advance for a new comer like me. Anyways, thanks!
