How about [Discord] teams before it was nerfed or [Jagged Bones] with [Death Nova] and [Taste of Death]. And of course the soul reaping was first the best thing you had (especially with spirits).

None of those skills got nerfed.
And to the OP if Primal Rage and Turret rangers got so roflstomped, how come they still see play?

First time I saw a necro team using Feast of Corruption spike was pure giggles. Oh, the original SBRI spike was genious, watching the Divert Hexes monk blowing up on Scourge Healing in VoD was pure rib tickling hysteria! People (hi iQ) eventually tamed it with something 2 purge signets, Divert, probably an Expel in there somewhere too... nowadays you could probably just own it with uber-PnH, I mean wtf, talk about power creep.
Ohai Divert Hexes! PnH makes you utterly pointless. RIP. The poor skill was niche to begin with next to Blessed Light, but now... ugh. Smells pretty dead to me.
There was also the Jagged Bones season of infinite energy that was quite amusing and I do seem to remember some epic N/Mo abusing Healer's Boon and soul reaping too. Good times, good times. Necros used to be the most maligned class, raged at for being broken (which they were lol), but they were wicked fun Modern Foul Feast/Lingering necros seem balanced by comparison.
In other news, Mind Blast has made a... comeback! I used to use a E/D with mind blast, flame djinn's, mystic, back when flame djinn's was perma 33% speed and mind blast returned an extra 2 energy. Now it's been revived by the Aura of Restoration buff! Too bad I'm addicted to Ether Prism now though.
Oh yeah, one last one... old Reclaim Essence was better.

[Malaise] + [Wither]
Hello, once necromancers could cause e-denial, but then Arenanet decided they shouldn't, so they had us choose between [Panic] which affects an entire area and gives -2 degen, or [Wither] which only targets one person for -1 degen, casts twice as slow and ends if the opponent is smart enough to switch to his negative-energy set.
Nice moves.

I guess I can understand that everyone has fond memories of the boon prot because it was so powerful. I myself was one of the first boon prots, as and was immensely successful with it. But it was way too good, and way too easy: virtually anyone could use one effectively. Key monk mechanics such as protting and especially removals were often discarded because no one could afford to spend 7e on 3pips just to remove a hex or a blind. It was a degenerate easy mode that made it hard to make mistakes, easy to recover from mistakes, and was immune to most forms of shutdown.
The nerf to boon prots was the best thing that ever happened to monking in this game.
