So what's with the new whirling axe meta ?
I've been seeing this in pvp quite a bit, it seems these days axe wars are either whirling axe, eviscerate, or primal rage (in equal proportions.)
A few months ago I was looking at warrior elites on wiki, saw whirling axe. Capped it, tried it, thought it was okay but it didn't stick. Now it's like what yumy and KMD are using...
What are your thoughts on this ? Better or worse than eviscerate ?
Is it mainly to counter MB/distortion eles ?
Also, ask me about dchop and axe rake.

It's mainly to counter Balanced Stance Monks and to a lesser extent Lightning Reflexes Rangers, it's not particulary effective vs stances like Distortion and Disciplined Stance..

variety of builds is healthy, even if the balance atm is still out of wack.

This, because the first thing almost anyone thought when Whirling axe was updated was pairing it across from a magehunter. At the time though WE was just so powerful nothing else was really worth bringing.

^ The bright side of WE is that I learned about protector's strike - +150 damage to my hammer spike, and a good way to blow 20 energy on pure damage, plus it hits a running squishie for 120.
I'm sad they killed WE, really, I was hoping it would get nerfed but still be viable as an option. What really sucks is that I can't play scythe war now.
How does whirling's damage compare to eviscerate ?

Whirling>Balanced Stance,Resolve(humsig). No one brings it exclusively to kill distortion, Warriors Cunning or Rigor are stronger if thats your setting out to do.

It's less about the damage than the utility. It definitely helps the team effort and lets you stay on one target if you can force the kill. Used to be, as soon as the "block" marathon began you had to switch off.
I'm still pissed though, that now it takes an elite slot to be what Wild Blow should have been all along. Any hopes of making that skill useful on the class it was designed for are pretty much shot.

Distortion, Balanced Stance, Natural Stride, Disciplined Stance, and to a certain extent Mantra of Resolve.
These are the reasons Whirling Axe is the current meta.

This. Though I think it's somewhat effective against dstance too, since it's still 15s recharge at least.
I don't really like whirling axe too much because you can't fit much damage at all on the bar, it makes the war more of a utility/support warrior, but it's unfortunately kind of necessary right now with how the meta is.
Also yeah its good vs mantra of resolve, just go over and whirling axe the mesmer every time he puts it up.

ironic that people would start saying that. When PR was first nerfed to a 15 sec recharge people were like "PR will never be run" but if you're not running a spike build then it's superior to eviscerate, IMO

Whirling is the shit.
Pair it up with magehunters and train the monk, easy win.
I'm not too keen on it outside of arena's though...
