Guild Wars. GvG is the only thing close to good PvP that this game has. You should move on if you aren't interested in that because AB is totally awful.

The issue here is that team composition is crucial to having a good team, unlike most FPS games, and even when compared to class-based FPS games, it's quite difficult to quickly switch from one role to another, making it unsuitable for pick-up-and-play games.
It's really quite unfortunate, since there's really nothing quite like Guild Wars for PvP.

Well Anet may be working on a new-ish type of PvP arena. A closed deck arena, like the one we were introduced to in special events where you take the form of a well known NPC. It may be a change to HB or be completely new, either way it sounds very (very) exciting. So you may find what you're looking for there.

Costume battles were pretty fun. The toned-down healing ability of monks was definitely a huge plus, since your standard WoH monk had way too disproportionate influence on a team's outcome in RA.
What I'm looking for is draft or sealed deck matches, which would add a bit more variety in games (and maybe make it so the most commonly used skills will not appear), and some way to form a team of random players, but allow them to work out a build before participating in matches (or perhaps a combination of the two)

Hello my name is pvp, either you put time in to get good at me or you can stick to playing single player games where you belong.
Seriously though, there is no such thing as instant success in a game that is 4 years old. If you want to pvp you will lose and lose again and get yelled at by your teammates whenever you make a mistake. If this sounds like something you don't want to do then by all means find a new game(one that doesn't have pvp), it takes a specific type of player to get good at pvp.

I guess there's not much I can do, then. I might suffer through some more frustrating RA matches and see I don't kill myself by the 3rd go-round, to clarify my opinions.

So basicly, youre disapointed about GW PVP, but then you dont want to actually try. Just go back to PVE I guess.

From what i understand you dont yet know that in pvp you need to run proper builds not the ones you like (in TA for example).

HA lost alot of it's fun after territory wars was taken out following Europe's domination, but if you want a chance at rare items and a nice emote, it's fun.
other than that, any PvP mode that gives Balth faction can give you stuff using Zkeys.

Casual GvG Guild is Probably your Best way to go look for a BYOB Guild while the Wins will not be as Common with better guild the Rewards are worth it example GvG z-quest "Scrub Farm Day" yealds 2 zkeys Per-Win and 1.5 Gold on top of that it is passable for someone in a Good guild to make 75 to 100 k in an Casual Evening of GvG
(lately i seem to be Blowing the Gold on "Gold Sync" items (Chaos Gloves, Vabbi armor having bought the materials all from the Trader npc) and other ridiculously expensive "Luxury Items" for my 3 year old warrior that is Fully equipped for PvP

If you're not willing to put in the time to get better so that people will want to play with you, why would anyone want to HA/GvG with you?

JQ as a PvP option for the casual PvPer
reading the replies, I know someone mentioned it already... but the JQ on the LUX side almost NEVER has a wait (Am dist). ANY player can easily "team up" with at least 1 player simply by following another players lead. Certain players WON'T be good to follow (the N/A Bomber, Ele Nuker, & The RoJ in particular - since they will be shrine/mine cappers & the WK hexer since they are mostly juggie killers). Almost ALL OTHER CLASSES you can "follow" since in general THEY too will be focussed on killing other players NOT the NPC's.
This method of "teaming" is rather effective at taking out single players or even 2 other players if U focuss your attacks on the foe that the player U are following attacks. In essence, U get to play mostly PvP against other players (since they must fight both of U or die trying to get to thier task). The only downside, is since JQ is mine cap based, U probably won't win as much as U lose, but that doesn't seem to B a reward which interests U. U almost always earn MORE balth in JQ than RA per hour - even when U lose.
Lastly JQ is far more PvP style than FA ...

In any kind of PvP, the reward is victory and that's all you really need. If there is anything beyond your actual victory (title, faction, tournament, etc) than that too. It is pretty retarded but except for GvG and HA, victory and the rest of the rewards mostly exclude each other: see resign/leaver/roll/etc. Also, you play to get better, and you play for fun.

Need to TA if you don't like much hassle, fierce competition will always be around though. It's one of the main reasons people like GW. I personally WANT my opponent to fight back.

I think you should wait for a special weekend event PvP and play tons of that and hopefully get to know players from a like minded guild for GvG. You'll still end up playing against the same proportion of people, but you'll be playing with casual competent players for fun. Easier said than done though.

The type of play you enjoy is sadly not that plenty around anymore, AB actually had times where it was more an overall fight rather then one side having mainly organised shrine rush teams capping, ra had times in the old days where you could solo teams if you played well and had the right bar.
These things rarely happen now, so if you're that kind of player GW is probably not the game for you to get into anymore, even though GvG still holds a decent amount of fun, you probably won't be able to find a pug group and play some random builds you might enjoy, HA and TA are to buildfocused imo these days and theirfor to gimmick, while HB is mainly RTS and therefor as stated not your playstyle.
Unfortunally there aren't many games around who fill this niche so i guess dota might indeed be your best bet, maybe try Demigod.
As for all the people adding fuel on flames that already went extinct, the logic you seem to be using on his play of style sound more like a carebear replay then an actual pvp reply.

There are very few PvP games that are that balanced you can actually play competitively like you can in GW, the only ones that come close are games like command ans conquer, but theyre in no way the same as GW. Try WoW pvp lol, that so utterly fails. Best gear = win no matter how st00pid you are. It isn't strange that those people aren't overly competitive, they don't have to be since noone can kill them.

He should have played something other than a sin, might have felt like he was actually doing something.
