65% of the time (according to a statistic i made up for this statement) given a chance and a day or two of time running with a team, a lower rank will be better than a higher rank. One day we let an r5 run with our guild, he messed up SoC even though we still won, we tore him a new asshole but let him keep running with us the next few times we ran, and he never messed it up again. You can basically scare lower ranks into playing better because they have more to lose (a.k.a. getting kicked from group and having to run back with people their rank), they generally won't make the same mistake again.
Our guild for the most part is r11+, we have an r7 infuser though, and when he's on we ask him to come nearly everytime. you can say rank is based off experience and grind, but it's only a small sense of how good the player is. Normally the higher the rank, the better knows the map rotation and tactical approaches. Just because the person is say...r10, but got it through playing an ele constantly, wouldn't mean im going to take him on anything else.
There's plenty of people though who are amazing at this game, better than the names you'll generally recognize seeing in HA, but majority of them will never get the chance to shine because they're stuck with worser players.
And you can't always judge a person by their build...A lot of better players like to mess around because they know they can run nearly anything and still do good. Me and my friend ran SoD prot and HH red bar with just a 2 monk backline once, no condi-removal, and got 7 consec before losing out on courtyard for lack of soc and we went up against a team with a PD, and just couldnt drop their ghost
you won't change tradition though, players want to win, majority will stick with their ranks because they believe it'll work better. that's just how it is.

People cling to rank because when you pug anon. players, rank is the only gauge of skill/experience that the party has on that player. I know it's not fair and I know a lot of the times the rank != skill, but that's the way it is. If GW had a more accurate stat system on skill that's as easy as just lookign at someone's emote or HA title, I'm sure people would drop rank reqs. for that in an instant, but there isn't.
So other then being called by friends to HA or people knowing you're good besides your rank, the current informal system of rank reqs. for groups will stay because unfortunately it's the best we as players have.
That fact that it takes you (whoever posted this thread topic... for the millionth time) 4+ years to realize this makes me quite sad, however.

EDIT: also I'm sure alot of people don't care that lower ranks have a hard time finding grps because of their rank because those same players went through the same situation (starting form r0 and working ur way up to r11+ or something). I know a lot less people play HA these days then "back in the day" and yes I also know this is also quite unfair but that's the way it is.

Completely agree... this is my pet hate in Guild wars of all TIME! Rank clingers dont care :P I mean my excuse is that i think i was too late in entering the PVP market and the rank clinging started so I have since not been able to get into a decent party due to the heavy rank clinging in HA :P its a sad state of affairs that stops me from playing a large slice of guild wars...

I read a new one of these threads every week. Also you're at the opposite end to the other people that are usually complaining which is weird but puts you in a great situation to do something about it. You could put one new rankless person in your team each week and help them get Rank 3+
