Call for action to root out leeching and botting in JQ
After taking a break from Guild Wars for 1 year, and came back with full of leechers and bots 24x7 at JQ. Some of famous ones you already know like "La Sans Peur", I see it every single days JQ. I filed a support question to GW support, and get following response:
Title: Dishonor

Title: Security FAQ
Link: http://help.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/ncsof...ted=1087503476
Title: Account Block

Title: Death Penalties

Title: Website SLOW Due to High Demand for Free Xunlai Storage Pane/New Items
Link: http://help.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/ncsof...ted=1240585707
I found that this is only delaying bots and leechers, not enough to make rule breakers staying away from it. If they do it in PvE or farming somewhere else, I really don't care much about it. In PvP, botting and leeching are really making worse experience for people working hard for their title, it is human interaction mission, not henching and hero game.
Why do we have those bots and leechers in JQ? they come for FACTIONS by taking from real player's efforts, GREEDY! My suggestion to GW support staffs is ZERO out their currect faction, once they reach the threashold of dishonrable, those bots and leechers won't come back again.
I need support from all of you, and make GW staff to implement this rule.
Thanks all!

So whenever someone gets dishonorable their factions gets reset to zero? Not a bad idea...in theory.
I'll /sign, even if eventually some innocents get screwed-over from it.

Good idea, most leechers are there for either Luxon Faction or Zkeys, so perhaps they'll find something else to do if they lose their income. I expect bots in particular would cease to be a problem, since they'd just go back to 55ing in Bergen.
On a side note, it helps to identify leechers to your team nicely, such as saying "Example Name is a leecher, please report him." Immediately report him yourself after, and likely several others will follow.

Well, not really. people disconnected during the match will get "dishonorable" for a very short period. Leecher and bot will get longer "dishonorable" due to player reporting them. Multiple offense will be enough for them reaching the dishonorable threashold. so people disconnected due to network connection should not be punished. The punishment should only apply to those people with auto enter matches 24x7.

You raise a good point, a player who is disconnected through no fault of his/her own can easily lose their faction. The simple solution is to have this take effect only when the offender accumulates 10 dishonor points, and reapply while any are added past 10. That requires 5 reports, which easily can be met in an hour's time. This will also safeguard actual players, since a disconnect will only give 5 points on an unsuccessful reconnect. Disconnecting twice in an hour is unlikely except during times where the servers are wacky, so this should solve the problem.

you could always protect yourself by dumping faction if your connection is bad, bots can't do this so it will only harm them
you can bash repeat offenders harder by lowering their max faction cap temporarily for a day or two if they zero out a few times

/signed for reports
/notsigned for leavers, both due to disconnect and the fact that I don't like staying in a losing team (and by that I mean having 3 leachers in my team)

if this worked.. you wouldnt have leechers.. as they would get dishourable.. and not be able to leech.

Zeroing the faction when reaching dishonorable is a terrible idea... /report is so abusable, it's not even funny anymore...

I remember those days! I still see a few every now and then when I'm passing through with a friend on a new char, haha!
Anyway, on-topic, this is why I stopped playing JQ I was so sick of leechers and botters not getting the punishment they deserve but this, taking into account there may be a few innocent people that might get faction taken from them every now and then I'd still love to see the idea implemented.

What if you are trying to earn some (via playing, not botting ) for the kurzick or luxon quests in factions?

I think this could be a good idea - however I think just making it easier to report botters/leechers would be better ` by that I mean how many of the habitual bots and leechers have easy to spell names? the ones who really abuse those two always make really long names, with strange spellings to discourage people from reporting them in the first place.
maybe like having to only type /report #1 (being the first player in the list) and so and and so forth would help. I know if it's a close match I hate having to take the time to type out a really long name, and if it's a tricky spelling if you get it wrong having to re-type it.

It's even easier than that. Just click on the leecher (either the character or name on the party roster) and type /report without name - the name is automatically inserted by the program.
On topic, I'd certainly support the decision to set all current faction to zero when the dishonorable hex is applied. Real players with d/c problems won't be affected since they can dump faction or take a break before hitting dishonorable if their connection starts to act up.
