It's too bad they can't link this thread to an NPC in HA.
It might save much wailing and gnashing of teeth...

Go read Ensign's signature. That says everything you need to know about gwonline.

I think I've seen this guide on some other site as well. It seemed condescending the first time I read it as well as this time. Fairly decent guide for first timers if they can get past the periodic insults.

I´m new to these forums, and yes, I´ve been playing GW for 22 months now, mostly PvE, I have been PvPed just a bit, and I actually enjoy it, mostly when I play Warrior or Elementalist ( I have all the warrior skills, and most of the elementalists unlocked), so far I have been going into the Arenas, with mixed success, it seems to me this is a very nice thread, and it has given me some insight into the PvP side of the game. Thanks for posting it.

I would like to do HA very much, but I still never seem to get a group. I got a lot of skills so the builds are no problem.
Still, the only profession I can get in a (noob) team with is monk. But.. because I'm a bad monk in PvP I only get to hear:
"noob monk!"
"heal me you idiot!"
(in general chat)"one of our monks is a total noob"
And so on.. I've tried to get people who do a lot of HA so they invite me sometimes, but most of the time they just forget me.
I play GW for 16 months now and 1/2 of that was doing PvP, still I only have 7 fame.
If anyone has tips/hints for me or maybe want to invite me in their HA group sometime.. all help is welcome!!

Ugly play without vent sometimes.
TVC plays without vent.
Rez anna - He hasn't played one match on vent, got from rank0 to rank10 pretty quickly. Keeping opinions aside about his skill or what builds he plays, the fact remains as without vent he got a large amount of fame in a relatively short period of time.
The raging thing is a joke, don't know why people think it's a part of PVP. You can put your point across without having to yell at someone. Those who really want to learn will, those who don't won't, no matter how much you yell at them they will always be bad.
Raging is just a sign of a lack of self control. Don't get me wrong, I've raged plenty, I did find that joining rank0 pugs helped a lot or just generally playing with idiots. Even though I have raged plenty, I still think it's a weak thing to do. Stop caring so much then If you're too busy focusing on others mistakes you won't put so much effort into fixing your own.
This whole attitude ' if you're rank0 you can't join high rank groups' or 'if you're rank0 you can't get much fame'. Don't agree with it. I think it's completely false.

That's enough to put anyone off PVP for life rofl.
There is a stupid thing that was bothering me, when I would be monking I would not switch weapon and cast in a fast enough fashion. It was only practice but I found it was making a massive difference to how I play. I still don't really like that I find it uncomfortable to switch weapon set every cast. When I was busy raging at people, I would forget to do simple things like that.
Quote:
I rage at people who can't body block. At r10 you should be able to do it...

They could lag or something. So you'll be busy shouting at them and they don't even see what everyone else sees. Raging in this example doesn't help. Pings aren't displayed, you have no idea how much someone is lagging. I've known times I can walk somewhere, cast a ward and instead of it being on an altar it's 100 foot away.

Wrong, in 90% of the vent using pugs I played it ended up as a good example of how pugs look in general (nobody uses the vent / 3-4 ppl shouting orders that no one is listening to / 1 guy ranting that everyone on the group sucks except him / 2-3 ppl that know each other just chatting about irrelevant private stuff / etc. )

If I were you, I wouldn't give heroway farmers as an example for fast learning players, especially after writing a long detailed thread about that issue.

Nice straw man fallacy with both of your arguments.

I replied to this.
So this:

Does not apply, especially since rezz anna did not get most of his fame from hero way and his groups are relatively organized; in addition, people that say hero way is over powered or lame, are simply brain dead. Just because people fail so much that others would rather have an A.I on their team hardly makes it lame. ''You warned him I was smart, you never warned me you were stupid.''

It was a good point regardless of your stupid sarcasm. Unless of course you think leeloof got rank14 from only winning UW. Possible, but highly unlikely; in addition, even if he DID get all his fame from winning UW. So what? Most people play HA for fame, so he gets it from UW. He was obviously organized to get it from UW. I'm not going to criticize leeloofs skill or compliment it, but even if he was bad. So what? My argument was that you can get somewhere in organized PVP without the use of vent.
Again proving this argument wrong:
Quote:
with no ts or vent you will never get anywhere in organised pvp...except perhaps zergway
|
Please stop bringing the argument down to such a narrow point that you then argue with it (and lose anyway).
Sure you gain respect from vent, but it is not really needed. Yesterday I made two decisions which I thought were right, in two matches. I told my team them (while the timer was ticking to start the match), we lost. Had they of listened to those choices, we would of won. They read it, the leader gave a long speech but took no notice. I don't care too much, but the point is: times like that make vent nice, to humiliate people and make them feel retarded. That is all vent is good for in HA. Anyone that says otherwise is just a spiker and hasn't got any good at the game anyway. Learn to play HA and vent really isn't needed.
I have a combative attitude, get called arrogant, arsehole etc. No problem, it goes when you can admit you're wrong and unintelligent.

Personally, I believe that although vent might not be required, it is certainly usefull. I find that if I'm doing something wrong, especially if I'm playing a role that I'm new to, it's easier to be told over vent than to read somebody's typing. People who are low ranked or unranked are probably not going to play very well, and are probably not going to forget things in the middle of a fight, and it's easier for their teammates to remind them about it over voice chat than to type it out. I've been in fights where we've been losing, and the battle was turned around because the caller or somebody else pointed out a few things that people had to do better, which would have been impossible without vent.
That being said, a bad team with vent will lose to a good team without vent every time. I'm just saying that having the ability to talk to your teammates is not without its merits.

I dearly want to get into PvP, but don't have factions or EOTN yet. Is it worth trying now, or should I wait until I've got those important skills?
An even better question-- I was told to buy EOTN after NF because it's a great expansion and better than factions, but there are some great skills in factions that I want, should I go factions first if I want to get into PvP?
