Ughh.... this question comes up every time... Go to the Riverside thread for the answer or just take it that it's part of Canadian law about giving away free things.
As for heroes, I'm not a big fan of them being removed. The Tease hero in HA is a problem but not the biggest problem facing PvP. Since it's much easier to form non-guild groups for HA, I have no problem with heroes being removed.
For GvG, I think heroes were useful, especially outside of the top 100. Godly interrupts aren't a very big issue and the rest that heroes excel at have exploitable downsides for GvG teams. It's still fun to do heroway when you can only find 5 people to GvG.

Heroes are WAY better at certain tasks. For example maintaining tainted on your whole party, or interrupting ANYTHING. Or you can micro certain skills when you go spike, to make the spike a lot cleaner.
That is why people consider heroes in pvp lame and wish for them to be gone. Also, tease+tainted are the biggest issues with heroes, and I think both will get henchman versions, resulting in a lot of effort changing nothing at all.

I think it's remarkable that some people are mad the AI are better than them, especially since heroes don't cheat and they come with drawbacks as well ...
I predict this change will simply deaden both formats, simply because it's even harder to put together a competitive team when you can't get enough players.

Lol, you mean people don't want to fight players who beat them, especially if it's the AI

Pointless contest imo, since future skill balances will render these henchmen obsolete in the months to come. If you're going to make an efficient hero right now it will probably use at least some skills from the current meta - Skills which will be the first to get nerfed. We'll be stuck with more useless heroes, or anet will get stuck with the workload of constantly updating these hench with relevant skills.

Where are you getting that information of them play testing each and every build submitted?
Also, look at this monthly and try to imagine if 1 of these guilds could've taken heroes in they would've had an unfair advantage because of the disconnects and lags. Some guilds did last year, but there's been changes since. Server side AI does not lag or disconnect in the middle of games. I have no problems beating heroways but having 2-5 people are lagged out/disconnected gives the side with AI a huge advantage.
