Heehee. Next month's update: RA will be removed. Because that's what happens to formats ANet can't fix.

Speaking for myself, I like the quick battles which you can enter and leave at any given point without a commitment - especially since I don't have the 'network' to play GvG or consistent HA. So when I play RA, I just prefer to have people in my team who know what kiting is, and who don't think that it's a good choice for a warrior to run with minions. If that makes me "super leet" and arrogant, so be it. It is however a fact that the average player in AD is far worse than the average ID one. The fact that there is now a huge influx of these.. 'creative spirits' from AD regardless where you enter is a huge disappointment. Especially since syncing is still very much possible.

October Update: Removed Guild Wars from the game.
Developer Commentary: The Guild Wars game has proven time and time again that it cannot be balanced. Too many skills and classes produce too many synergistic combinations to be contained. Addressing one problem produces other problems in a never ending cycle. Combine with this the fact that Guild Wars is losing players and no format of the game is very well populated, terminating Guild Wars seemed the most prudent action.

I seems as if balancing is too time consuming. I hope they have autobalancing AI in GW2.

uhm, because one doesnt ALWAYS have the players at hand to make a team adequate to the evils one tends to face in ta, but at the same time one refuses to synch RA (so it still is RANDOM), yet hopes to at least land with semi competent people so one doesnt have to face palm 10 seconds into a match?
or uhm, cuz if one wants to kill time by face palming 24/7 one can go and pug in pve missions? trust me, it works like a charm.
so uhm, one cant always play with decent people, but that doesnt mean one should or has to play with terribad ones.
maybe, uuuhm, cuz HA and gvg alike are filled with trash in twice the quantity of that found in TA so one doesn't WANT to play there?
i can give u a humongous amount of reasons why i shouldn't and won't be busy working on my ha/champ titles and why i hate landing with ad/eng nabs in RA.

You know there is a flipside to that coin. If you end up with 3 "pve'ers" on your team you're also likely to be facing 4 pve'ers. That gives you a solid advantage being a devoted pvp'er yourself. I assume you don't take much pleasure in having 3 of your friends from TA on your team while fighting RA champs from american dist?
I agree wholeheartedly with windforce saying that these hot shots should probably stick to farming champ pts rather than killing pve'ers in RA and facepalming while doing it. That just sounds like fail on so many levels to me.
Too bad though, that there is no middle ground. TA is corrupted as we've discussed earlier. I guess id and korean served such a purpose, I used to RA a lot in korea about a year ago so I know what you're talking about. However I got upset with all the teenagers with torment shields and hormonal attitudes.
Anet, you think you could make a Team Arena for people without torment shields, who are not teens and choose not to run shovespike? That would be really awesome.

Sad part is, they'll probably nerf Shove Spike in the same update that they remove TA.

Think about it this way. If you're going to RA, decent teammates usually is good enough to get to 5 wins or 10, or at least have an enjoyable time giving other good teams a decent fight. By "decent", you do not have to have good teammates with builds that synergize well. For example, if you have a Caretaker's Rit, Wastrel's Collapse Assassin, Burning Arrow Ranger and Ebon Dust Derv, that is good enough. The build isn't very good - no strong heals means this team isn't going to make it far in TA - but in RA I'd stick with it.
You can, however, have completely terrible players ruin an otherwise good team. Suppose instead of the above team you get three good players playing the Rit, Sin and Ranger, then the last guy is this W/N with Animate Bone Minions. Do you think you still have a chance? Win one or two games maybe but much further than that? What if you keep getting teammates of this caliber? Once or twice is tolerable, but if you hit enter 5 times and keep getting this kind of player chances are you'll get really frustrated.
When I RA, I usually play from American Districts. Sometimes it works out, other times it doesn't (things are especially bad during double Glad weekends or RA ZQ days). When it doesn't but I still feel like playing RA, I switch to International Districts. Usually there is an instant upsurge in player skill. I might still lose of course since enemy teams get better as well. But losing to a good team with good teammates still feels better than losing to a bad team because your Warrior has Animate Bone Minions.
That said, I still fully approve of this change. Between having to put up with bad teammates and having to put up with perfectly synced teams, I'd pick the former.

Pretty sure no one mentioned hating RA. However, many of us do find the game more fun playing with semi competent players without having to form up for half an hour, or if our friendlist is currently empty. Playing in ID/Korean was a way of massively improving the standard of play from both teams, and was ultimately far more enjoyable than flarespam and wammos every match.
As an aside... GJ Anet on taking the easy road fix. Syncing is still perfectly possible AND we're stuck with AD trash.

Yeah this method for stopping most syncs is kind of a bummer. Random 4v4 with competent teammates & enemies is quite fun and a good way to spend time without having enough people/time for gvg/ta; random 4v4 with primarily incompetent teammates & enemies is not. I don't know if there's a way to incorporate that into the system officially (addressing different degrees of competition/seriousness/skill in RA), as even the previous informal method of knowing which districts to enter from only helped a bit. Syncing title farmers being gone is great, but combining all districts does highlight a usergroup that could be better served.

Unfortunately merging districts was always going to be something of a needed fix to syncing. A randomized queue or something would have also been nice though, so the fix to syncing actually, you know, fixed syncing.
Only way I can think of sorting the srs bsns players from the pet eles and minion warriors would be some sort of segregation based on glad rank. Which would be inefficient at best and would stir up such a shitstorm that it probably wouldn't be worth it.
Guess we're gonna have to live with it.

Or they could have just fixed how Asian districts work.
People were able to sync so easily because unlike other districts, Asian districts each combined players from only the district you were in. Players from Russian and Poland districts got matched together. Players from AD1 and AD4 together also. This was not the case with players from Japanese and Korean. If there were only 4 people in Japanese district and they entered, they would always get teamed together, regardless of how many people were in Korean district.
Making Asian work like other districts would allow ID players and AD players to be on their own teams still.
If there were concerns of ALL Asian districts being empty at the same time (which probably happens very occasionally), allowing sync teams to easily enter together, then they could have just removed Asian districts or merged with International.

10 minutes after the update, I was already that frustrated that I decided not to play RA until it gets changed.
I'm pretty sure this update scared away 80% of the people who arent completely terrible.

Random Arena has always been about playing terrible builds with other people playing terrible builds.
Oh wait, glad title changed it all. Its all very serious now, how dare these plebeians infest my random arenas.
RA is a diversion from competitive play. If you want competitive play, you really do have to go somewhere else.

most ppl who synced went onto ta anyway, and saw it as 10 free wins and a quick warm up... big deal no need to nerf it. it was good because if you kept getting shitters in your ra teams (even being in id/kor districts) you could just fl a few people and stomp the shit out of ra to calm down. and it was helluh fun to make insane builds and to RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO around. SADNESS
should've figured out another way to stop syncing without linking all the fkn districts, tbh

What's all this talk of AD trash? Granted, I only play a run or two of RA every couple or three days, but I have yet to see anything like the crap you guys are talking about. Pet Ele? Minion War? I've not seen anything like that since I started playing again 2 months ago (when I quit 3 years ago, you'd see stuff like that...).
Let's see, last few runs I've played with:
PBlock mesmer
Ebon Dust spear/infuser
Touch ranger
KD-chain assacasters
Solid prot monk (didn't recognize the build, but was a good player)
VoR mesmer
Corrupt Ench/IP necro
Mindblast Ele
Escape Dagger Rangers
other PVX wiki stuff I can't remember
I can't remember the last player I saw running a trash build. The worst I saw was a touch ranger without the second vamp touch because he didn't have the campaign needed.
I play mes/necro mainly, and my opponents rarely attack through damage hexes like VOR/IP, so they're not horrible players (unlike the JQ/FA players, who will spam assassin chains on me when I have VOR/Frenzied Defense or IP/enfeeble going).
