unfortunately, i haven't touched my warrior in over two months prior to making this video, so gameplay is not up to where i want it to be. nevertheless, i hope people can learn something about some of the strategies in winning on ancestral lands as luxon.

these vids are more or less test videos, to see how well i can make "HD" videos look on youtube. so yes, these are available in high definition... or whatever youtube believes is HD.

Very nice quality of the vids. I believe youtube max quality is 1280x720 or 720p as which most people know it as.

1280x720 was the resolution of my uploads. obviously, the youtube output is significantly smaller.

some interesting facts:
-original video was recorded at 2048x1152, and uses over 50gb of hard drive space
-the version on youtube are scaled down to 1280x720, and uses XviD codec with quality set to 4096 (i forgot what this metric is called, unfortunately)
-audio is encoded with the LAME mp3 encoder, [email protected] stereo. uncompressed, the audio itself would've been bigger than the compressed video
-i tried using x264 as the encoder. unfortunately, this always introduced some corrupted frames right at the beginning of the video, and desyncs the audio for the entire recording. unfortunately, x264 is a stronger/better codec than XviD

In the end after it converts it all... the youtube HD audio is AAC m4a

i was trying to keep filesize down you see. i originally intend to record in 5.1 surround sound (which is my audio setup for my computer); unfortunately that resulted in uncompressed audio files of around 300mb, and virtualdub doesn't seem to convert to stereo all that well.

recording in stereo solved the problem. however, i suspect FRAPS simply recorded the left and right channels and ignored all the other channels, instead of merging them into the left and right. maybe thats why the audio seems a bit canned.

The Let's Play subform on SA is dedicated to taking shitty game footage with mouthbreathing commentary and putting it on youtube. The tech support thread is currently entitled "JUST EXPORT TO H.264/AAC IN MP4 WITH MEDIACODER YOU RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOS"

I can't stress how important that is and how much space you will save on your harddrive.

EDIT: Also turn off auto update on mediacoder. Latest stable build is 0.6.1.4045.

Also if you are at all serious about this, then you need commentary. Right now the videos are particularly bland and unclear to anyone that doesn't already know what is going on. Commentary can be done via subtitles or live audio. If you do live audio, do not record while you play, watch it a couple of times and make notes beforehand. Also an option for multiple people to do commentary via skype.

Finally Youtube is the best known streaming video site, but its limitations are pretty strong. Many other sites out there with better options.

that's the problem with GW in general isn't it: if there's nobody commentating, the casual observer would only see people running around in circles and flashy spell effects. i'll give commentating a try... hopefully i can make it sound interesting.

i chose youtube primarily because of its bigger audience. there's been many good GW videos (Chiizu's warrior videos, for example) that are now more or less lost because of where he decided to upload. if the purpose is to educate, then i have to go where most of the viewers are, even if there are superior sites available.

Yeah, damn suxons. Everyone knows that the only way to win AB is by defy pain + dolyak signet tank and then use riposte to kill.

I laughed a bit when the first thing you did after having capped the bridge shrine was to primal rage into a small mob, but you seemed to survive quite well anyways. Must be ABing with friends and guildies instead of scrubs? Otherwise I'm not sure I'd trust it to run a primal rage bar. I always thought the general consensus in organised PvP was that the warrior has so much armour, they're not worth attacking for the most part, which is why you can run frenzy or primal rage and still get away with it many times. I find that in AB, people don't care who they nuke, they just pick whatever's closest, so frenzy or primal rage is more dangerous.

I find the way you approach targets interesting. You always circle behind them to attack, this is probably to get on the right side of them in the case they kite backwards? It was fun, since you did that to stand-still NPCs too.

I think commentaries would help a lot, there's undoubtedly many considerations and whatnot that we miss since we can't hear your reasoning. For instance, why did you go after the SE shrine after having capped the bridge shrine, is that simply "standard procedure" so early in the match, or did you spot the NE shrine being taken, then cleverly predicting they would run clockwise, therefore the SE shrine was next?

no, i was playing with a pug. a pretty good pug mind you, but it was definitely a pug.

and you are exactly right as to why i capped the bridge attack shrine, then doubled back and moved towards the SE. the NW group did not push into the bridge, so they were going towards the NE. even if the opponent group did not move towards the SE shrine, i was hoping to reach the NE shrine quickly enough for a pincer move. either way the move paid off, since i was able to force a 6 v 4 and wiped them. had i not gone the way i did, that group would've taken the SE shrine virtually unopposed, since the team we had there was focussed on the gate.

i'm gonna try my hands at commentating with a shorter video that i've prepared. it would be nice if there's a program that allows me to pause the video and do drawings and diagrams.
