I only ever monk(ed) in HA. From my experiences there, I'd say that the scariest thing is simply just a really skilled, coordinated team. When the infuse gets their AoS ripped right before they get KD'd, and a big spike lands on another target while they're down, there's not much to be done. The key to this type of team is of course, as already mentioned, really good warriors, often supported by a good mesmer and/or ranger as well.
Pretty much most other stuff can be dealt with though.

I only monk in ra, so the biggest thing that scares me is crappy teammates who fail and then blame me. Rangers who bring a pet and have no pet skills. Warriors with meteor shower (saw another 1 today!) A monk with a level 7 pet. A monk whose name was something along the lines of leroy jenkins who basically ran all the way to the enemies home base, died. res, died. etc. Still won that round, he leaves after. wtf. I could go on. That's what scares me.

There are some really good W/A + W/Es out there. It always bothers be to see those combinations because I never know if they're going to screw up on their chain or I'm going to be knock-locked. I haven't seen many on recently though.
I mainly cringe at the derv healers on the other team...most of the time my team will either ignore or refuse to attack them. Then the match either ends in a draw or I slip up and we lose.

Pretty much when I monk the only think that causes problems are good warriors, good rangers, good necros and good mesmers and especially a combination of 2 or more of these. Everything else is really a non issue.

In the majority of the cases I've ever encountered a monk say that someone was overextended, it's actually been the case that he was just too far back unneccesarily.
On topic: Good spikes and bad teammates. The thing about good spikes is there isn't much you can do about them, it follows an algorithm where even if you play amazingly you only have a matter of time before you run out of energy and can no longer stop them, and your team has to take control in order to win(which is often hard to do because spike teams have so much utility and defense)

Another ridiculous thing I came across while monking in HA was a rank 12+/two top 30 guilds together in the same team. They had warriors that were quarterknocking off of each others knockdowns. Pretty much impossible to beat without a good prot, which our prot monk was not. So I stayed on the ground for 20 seconds as our team died.

When I play as a monk in HA and GVG (which I often do), a good bull's strike, diversion and dshot scares me. What makes me sometimes lose my temper are teammembers that fail to snare effectively, incorrect kiting (not in shieldset, hugging me/each other) and fail positioning.

Lag and a broken "stop cast" button.
Also, good warriors, mesmers and rangers are annoying.

I don't think anything really bugs me, except when the other monk lags out for a minute at a time, about 10 times a match against StS, mkay, BdV, or whatever other guild I forgot when that happened.

- VoR and backfire (yeah, VoR is nerfed, but its still kick-ass)
- 2 mesmers (when i see 2 mesmers in the opposite team, it's like ohlolno)
- SB necros
- Good warrior
- Rangers campers
- Crappy combinations in my team (E/R, A/R, R/Rt and so on)
@Edit
The most scary is, when you monk in one battle. Very easy battle indeed, that you win without any effort, and then someone in your team says "Good monk". It means they are bad, really bad.
