Unless you are a serious contender to win the AT, you're better off getting Dwayna early. The jump in reward points for winning a quarterfinal is large. Second place is worth little more than third or fourth.

It's not possible to force second for certain now that everyone is aware of the situation. Assuming you can win any match you draw in the Swiss, you can avoid the dreaded triple Grenth. In some scenarios this involves assuming some risk of missing the top 8 altogether if you lose in the last round. Exact placement is determined by factors beyond your control, so we may as well call it luck. If you try to finish second, you risk finishing first.

The fact that players work this hard to avoid triple Grenth is telling. Dwayna is still worth 3 to 5 points before the match starts, depending on spawns. You have to be a lot better than everyone in the AT to win it with triple Grenth.

It's obvious that either some people fail at the concept of not winning the last match, or they just don't care since there are still people getting 6/0/0, so it still isn't 100% of the people doing it yet.

Isn't there always going to be a winner when two 5-0 teams face eachother or do both teams get a draw if they both leave?

Both teams get a draw, and thanks to the new rules, they get 0 points for the draw, so a third team that goes 5-1-0 can end up getting first while the two 5-0-1 draw teams don't.

So basically it's your fault.

speaking from 13 snowball AT wins this season so far.. its all about your break pts...

almost every AT that goes six rounds, there is a near absolute way of getting second...

1. win first 4 rounds
2. entire team leaves the 5th round before the gate opens (usually the other team will do the same resulting in a 0 gain of pts and a tie)
3. 2 teams under the 1 and 2 places will win just to make it into the top 8, but by doing so bump both of them to the new 1 and 2 spots
4. win the 6th round bumping your team to either 2 or 3 (the original 1 and 2 guild now place 2 and 3 going into single elims)

easy wins ensue assuming youre not playing moo... then youre pretty much screwed no matter how good you are... dnd.exe ftl

oh, and i forgot to mention... none of this is new... we figured it out last year in [FINE], thats why we were able to beast some of the best teams at that time... we were always dwayna in the finals

Can someone draw up an accurate 16-team single elim bracket like that of an mAT?
